That cell deformity is what takes place in sickle cell anemia. In bootcamp we were tested for this deficiency and had to wear a band on our arm signifying we had this deficiency. Mainly Blacks had the deficiency. Funny how many docs never heard of this or know what it is when I ask abt it. The next time you go to get tested for HIV ask the doctor to read to you the legal disclaimer on the test kit insert. This is what it says, "At present there is no recognized standard for establishing the presence or absence of antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 in human blood."

Look at the time lag between the early 1900s or even 1950s (when they postulated that people must have contacted it) and the eventual clinical manifestations of early 1980s that turned into an epidemic in America. Are they saying it took so long for the virus to undergo mutation or antigenic shift in order to become pathogenic enough to cause epidemic in humans? The next time you go to get tested for HIV ask the doctor to read to you the legal disclaimer on the test kit insert. This is what it says, "At present there is no recognized standard for establishing the presence or absence of antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 in human blood."
