    Great advice on the video mate, really cool of you to share the Dive safe message. Maybe as a suggestion, Dive with a buddy always! Cheers for sharing the footage! Dive Safe!

      Thanks for the comment dude. As far as “dive with a buddy always” I do when I can. But it usually isn’t practical for me as I using struggle to find reliable dive buddies and often have a hard time convincing people to join me on the less glamorous dives. Not diving alone would mean not diving more often than not. Solo diving isn’t something I recommend especially to beginners but everybody should be able to make their own decision at the end of the day. I am confident in my ability to dive safely and as a result believe solo diving to be within the realm of acceptable risk for me personally. Diving with buddies is a great message and obviously something to aim for but not always practical for all people. I would say don’t push limits alone and always er on the side of caution.

      @@BlueNeoprene Totally understand where you are coming from, I'm not a zealot FWIW. We all make choices. I guess communicating to people who are important to you why you make choices and what to do if it goes south and you don't come back helps those left behind understand and move on. I'm all for living your best life. So go you good thing. Thanks for sharing the content and comments! Dive Safe!

    mate dont get me wrong youre vids are great i spearfish as well and totally agree with youre princables but that diseases on leather jackets even though it looks gross and unhealthy is actually natural and is fine to eat and does not harm the animal i learnt this from a trusted marine biologist friend

      Interesting perspective, it’s always important to hear both sides. How ever I’m not totally convinced to be honest. Anecdotally in my own experience these fish just look totally rekt, I believe the condition to have a significant toll on the fishes health. They seem to just drift around aimlessly and lack the perky, somewhat playful nature of the uneffected LJs. Certainly wouldn’t eat one lol. If you have any verifiable factual information I would love to hear it. My decision to shoot this one was based off nothing but my own perception. I have tired searching for answers online but it’s relatively hard to come by. Searching “leather jacket skin infection” just gives results for people getting rashes from wearing actually leather jackets haha 🧥🙏🤘

      Yeah i have not really observed them well enough to be totally sure so you're probably right. The rashes thing is crack up

    I'd like to see some advice on the streamlined kayak set up, and the best ways to get in and out of it.

    • @BlueNeoprene
      @BlueNeoprene  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be a great video idea. However I am in no position to give advice I regards to that. This video and one other, are the only instances of me spearfishing from a kayak. I simply don't have the experience to give sound advice. I would suggest watching some videos from GP fishing adventures and Kerry Flowers, they both have vastly more experience than myself when it comes to kayaking

    Hey mate. Another kiwi here.. I have only speared with spear guns but looking into pole spear for something different.. what pole spear are you using, length , etc?? Cheers

      Hey mate, thanks for the comment. I currently use the Atlantis PS2 Polespear from Splash (also available elsewhere). It is a 2pc design with a total length of 9ft when assembled. If your serious about giving polespear a go I would recommend getting something at the higher end as I have had to make significant alterations to mine in order to get the most out of it. On one occasion I even snapped it clean in half when loading it, luckily splash are good with warranty’s. It’s possibly the cheapest decent option but you will potentially avoid a lot of frustration and time by forking out for something nicer. Best of luck Craig

      In my videos I am using an Atlantis PS2 polespear. Lost the back end of it and have been meaning to replace it. Pretty basic model

    I really liked the video, your awareness of the ecosystem, and your sense of responsible harvesting. Also the fact that you'd go after what others consider a non-table worthy fish. Diversity is a huge part of sustainability, in my opinion. My only thought is, instead of kicking that fish off with your fins and letting it die off slowly, why not take the extra 20 seconds or so and brain it. If you're putting it out of it's misery, wouldn't that be the moral thing to do? Aside from that, amazing footage and it's awesome to see other people polespearing with the same attitudes and beliefs on fishing in general. ✌️

      Your totally right bro, I definitely regret doing it. Was not humain or ethical to the leather jacket.
      I appreciate you raising the point. I don't know exactly why I did it but I shouldn't have and I won't try to justify it!
      Thank you for holding me accountable to my own principles, you will see nothing like this in future videos 💙
