    Thanks for the reminder that we can always make a product work. I sometimes feel like there is so much out there that if a product is disappointing, it is easy to replace it with a better option from my makeup collection. I just don't like it to be too complicated... But I know that it is a very wasteful way to see it. This video encourages me to try some products a bit more and find ways to like them. Challenge accepted! x

      Yes! I bought a foundation last year when we couldn’t leave our houses and the shade match is great, but I have dry skin and it would cling to it. But I’ve found if I use less of it and make sure I’m only using it on days I’ve been very good with my skincare, it works fine. It’s still not great, but it’s better than throwing it away.

      @@vanessaadelin no, I prefer thicker bronzers like the Chanel, yensa cream bronzer, the Jaclyn cosmetics, milk makeup stick, etc. I haven’t tried the elf since all the reviews I’ve seen say it’s a VERY thin formula

      I bought that elf bronzer bc I saw everyone talking about it.. I was swatching it on my hand and it literally disappeared as I was blending it in.. I’m glad it was cheap so I didn’t waste too much money but my goodness, I’m extremely fair and if a bronzer disappears on MY skin like that!! It must be awful lol

    Maybe just use the foundation as a mixer for more matte foundations! Like a pump of each to maybe get that sweet spot of glowy but not TOO glowy

    • @carolinatorres7575
      @carolinatorres7575 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mix 2 matte foundations, 1 doesnt have enough coverage and the other one can look thick on me (great coverage tho). Mixed is perfect!

    • @mlayne130
      @mlayne130 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carolinatorres7575 yess I do that! But I have extremely dry skin so I can’t do matte 😂
      I like mixing a sheer foundation with a more medium coverage one during the winter because my skin is so dry that the medium coverage can sometimes cling to dry patches. Mixing it with the sheet Mac Face & Body foundation thins it out enough to give me a little coverage in the most beautiful finish!!
      I also mix them sometimes just to get my perfect shade match because obviously I’m much paler in the winter than I am summer!

    I used to always use the Nars Soft Matte concealer in the pot to cover blemishes but it would look too heavy and dry sometimes(I have dry skin). I tried the the Bare Pro stick concealer on your recommendation and I love it! I just use a small brush to get some off the stick and then lightly tap it on the blemishes. It has amazing coverage but is so smooth and natural looking on the skin. Thank you for the great recommendation!!

    Because I have very few people I can pass makeup off to, I always tend to use up anything I pick up and don't like. There are some things that are so bad that I just toss them (elf putty eye primer.. hoo boy) but generally through using them up I find I either 1. find a way I like to use it or 2. learn my lesson and never buy it again.

    • @leaj3799

      Love the Elf putty primer, like the putty blushes (depends on finding a good color you like on you), haven’t tried the bronzer as I have 2 other cream bronzers I like to use up first. But the putty eye primer got tossed- and I’m not the type of toss things lightly. It was just so dry and wouldn’t spread easily and I don’t mess around when it comes to my eyes. The only time I had an allergic reaction to an eyeshadow, I was using that primer. For the cost, it just wasn’t worth the struggle. Into the trash it went.

    Personally, I'm over "making it work". I find that if I have to put that much effort into a makeup product, I'm most likely never going to use it. So I might as well return it (if feasible) and get my money back. I've wasted so much money in the past on things that I have to "make it work" and then they usually wind up expiring because I never reach for them, or I just wind up donating them because they never get any use. In either case, I've basically just thrown out a bunch of money on makeup I'll never use.

    I know I’ve already commented this but my skin tone and type are almost identical to yours. I tried the elf bronzer in the shade tan lines and had the same result, but then I tried the shade honey drip and now it’s my all time favorite cream bronzer. Highly recommend giving honey drip a shot instead.

    I find that with my glowiest foundation, such as the Josie Maran Argan oil foundation, a brush is definitely the way to go to take the dewiness down a bit and help the product feel like it isn’t too tacky or wet on my skin. Granted some days I use a sponge because I want to glow. But I was surprised at how well a brush worked to tone it down!

    I know this video hit close to home for so many of us, buying a product and trying to figure out how to make it work! As my skin has matured, my normal foundations plus setting powder have stopped looking good on my skin. The just look cakey. So I have had a steady stream of foundations arriving at my house to try, both high end and affordable. The super dewy complexion products end up needing powder, so they are OUT. So, I've been on the hunt for a satin matte foundation, one that doesn't need powder and isn't cakey. The closest I've come is the new Lawless foundation (self setting), but the shades are VERY pale, so I probably need a new shade🤔
    What has worked is mixing foundations, a hydrating product plus a matte, full coverage one. Using this as my concealer (full coverage concealers are out), and only using powder under the eyes (I use either the Elf Halo Glow or the Hourglass Translucent Veil powders.) I thought I would share this information if anyone is experiencing the same situation. I have read many comments from those with mature skin having similar issues! Maybe this information can help someone else!
    (So sorry for the extra long comment😉)
