Once I'm done with my makeup, I step away. I finish my hair, get dressed etc. Then I come back for a second look. I immediately notice things that are "off" and try to add/blend/fix.
for the longest time, i thought i was doing "dewy" makeup before realising it was actually satin/natural finish. i appreciate a glow from within, but not at the expense of looking like i just ran a marathon.
I really must encourage anyone that’s older than 40 with oily skin to embrace it!! If you’re lucky enough to have what I’m sure was the bane of your existence when you were younger, it’s really a godsend. I’m past 60 now, and I’m adoring it. It was impossible to work with in my youth, but now I feel blessed.
For me smaller and more precise brushes are a game changer as well. I know some people enjoy those giant powder brushes to set their face, I just don’t, I like a more targeted application.
This! A fluffy eyeshadow blending brush works great for me for powder. I also tend to use relatively small brushes for blush, not tiny but I want to control where the color goes.
Smaller brushes are such a game-changer! I always wondered why everything looked so muddy (especially eyeshadow looks) and the answer is smaller brushes! I also love the precision for blush, powder, etc.
I love the dewy trend, because my oily skin (especially when adding sunscreen) is finally trendy and I no longer feel self concious over it. However, I don't wear base make up except for concealer, so I can imagine the experience being very different for an oily skin person wearing dewy foundation.. Edit: also glossy lips being trendy instead of matt? My lips are thanking me daily
same my skin is oily and now i dont need to you know YEA EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID and ye i never liked matte lips :'3 maybe nowadays the powder kiss types which came out and k beauty ones are nice but still :'3 i just like glossy anything lol
@@ladyj.9350 I also love lip oils, and there are so many good and inexpensive (and not sticky) ones to choose from. They also don’t feather in the fine lines like lip glosses used to. Product quality has improved leaps and bounds from the 90’s and 00’s!
This video came at the right time because I recently repurchased a matte foundation I love a few years ago and I finally decided to stop pretending that I like dewy makeup and cream products. We really need to stop hopping on trends just because and actually consider what we like and what looks good on us
I switched to dewy foundation bc I have very dry skin and matte or satin finish foundations stuck on all my dry patches and emphasized the texture. The dewiness provides glow to my skin without looking oily at all and it doesn't break up near my nose or smile lines. Once I switched, it immediately showed that all my other products like blush, contour, bronzer, highlight all melted into my base way better!
As I've gotten older, my face shape has changed and I've had a lot of volume loss in my cheeks. BUT, the "lift" your face as the technique prescribed for more mature faces--like blushing and bronzing in an upturned style--was only serving to make my face more gaunt. Once I changed the placement to going across my face (instead of the apple-to-temple style for lift), it has made my cheeks look fuller and made me feel more like myself. Further, I think the horizontal bronzer placement makes so much more sense because it actually mimics where the sun would naturally hit the face. The sun isn't going to "sculpt" your cheekbones! Save that for contour if you decide that is even a necessary step in your routine. On that note, I think contour placement has been a one-size-fits-all model for a very long time when it comes to tutorials. Learning how to work with your own face shape and bone structure has been very illuminating for me. Both Kackie and Alex Aneale have done great videos on how to achieve this. Lastly, I hate dewy, tacky, flypaper makeup. A little glow can have a time and place, but I'd much rather be in control of exactly where I want that light to peek through, so I powder and highlight strategically. Above all, living in the South where humidity is a fact of life year-round, you will have pry my powders out of my cold, dead hands! Great video, Kelly! I am all for anything that encourages folks to feel beautiful the way they are and play to those features rather than using makeup to hide, disguise, and cover up their special, unique beauty. ❤❤❤
You’re so right about the old “lifting” techniques for mature faces. You and I are in the same boat. When I used the old ways I ended up looking like the Crypt keeper or a Scream mask. Horizontal blush is the way to go!
I've never understood why ppl use bronzer to "sculpt" the face when that is literally not at all what is was intended for lol. It's intended to give your face a fake tan and make you look like you got some sun. Just as blush was meant to mimic the natural redness you get in your face when you "blush". Obviously people are free to be creative and do what they want, but if you're trying to look more natural then it helps to use the products the way they were intended to be used. Even eyeshadow was intended to make your eyes "pop" by casting a shadow on your eyelids, not to look like you have a multicolored work of art on your lids. I love a good single shadow look with either a warm or cool brown depending on your eye color, a little eye liner and mascara. Takes 5 minutes and looks SO flattering on the eyes!!
I use cream products, but I’m just so much more used to powders. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, a lot of the cream products available would clog pores and cause breakouts, or, if your skin was oily, would last about an hour before disappearing. And some would oxidize into a shade more orange than I wanted. Cream products have come *such* a long way and there are so many good ones now. But I always find myself reaching for powder products when I’m in a hurry, and just want to “whoosh and go.” And powders DO stay on better when it’s hot. I don’t have that “my face is slowly sliding off” feeling.
I really love your advice on emphasizing our unique features ! It feels almost obvious in a way yet it is is so rarely talked about. This is a very inspiring way to play with makeup.
Kelly I have been following you for some years now and I must say your content lately is reaching ANOTHER LEVEL! so so so entertaining, something different and unique on TH-cam scene! Love that you are voicing you opinion beyond 'just' makeup reviews. I am honestly waiting for each and every new video of yours :)
I love how Kelly isn't afraid to do her own thing in the makeup community. Her videos are definitely refreshing, informative, and honest. She is one of my favorite TH-cam beauty influencers. I love her fresh take on beauty. Awesome!! ❤❤❤
I don't want dewy makeup. In between skincare and SPF, my skin looks pretty dewy verging on shiny before I start putting on makeup, any more shine, and it will be sliding off! Having experienced that when going dancing and wearing tinted moisturiser, I now prefer to set my base makeup or even wear a powder foundation. As you say, it doesn't need to be flat matte, but soft or satin matte is good.
The only thing I like about the super dewy trend is that I don’t have to do anything to achieve it 😅 I have super oily skin so I literally just have to do my makeup with minimal products and wait about a half hour 😂 and boom SUPER DEW! I actually love a matte look but it’s not practical to maintain if you have extremely oily skin. I shoot for something in between because while the super dewy is super easy for me I personally think it looks like an oily mess. Mixing satin finish all over, glowy just on high points and matte on tzone leaves just the right balance for the day and maintenance is just blotting the tzone throughout the day.
I know it’s said a lot, but the biggest thing for me is using colours that match each other, and match me! If I use mauve on my lips, it goes on my cheeks too, and my eyes if I can! Having consistency in the colours really ties a look together in my opinion :) With something more colourful, like a blue eyeshadow, having something in your look that’s complimentary (such as an orange lip, blush or orange inner corner) REALLY makes the look pop!
Oh my gosh yes! Coordinate those colors! I’m the same way - I will do my whole face in, for instance, plum or mauve. Even if a color is “just” for lips (red) or “just” for eyes (turquoise, to name two) I want to be sure the rest of my face harmonizes. Deliberately chosen complementary colors are great (like your example of orange with blue). Carefully chosen is the watchword. I don’t like looking as if I just grabbed whatever color at random and slapped it on my face - *that* is what often causes that “overly made up” look.
I "play up" all of my features and love it on myself, actually. Some days I go neutral, but I'm mostly into bright and bold makeup, with my eyeshadow being colorful. 😊 I love these tips though about how to use powder!!
Kosas cloud set is still to this day my holy grail , yes layering diffrent finishes from primer to foundation to concealer to bronzer to blush to powder type and powder placement and using thin buildable layers that are blended and pushed in enough is a big key to lasting makeup that suits your skin, the revelation I had when you mention how you’ve started applying concealer …. That is how I apply my primer and foundation but somehow it hadn’t dawned on me yet to do the same with my concealer 😆, thank you I’m going to start trying this
I think dewy makeup is a marketing term especially that it’s always used with “youthful” and that’s going to bring a lot of $$. A youthful glow is not shine of product but by skin fullness and having no hallowness in the face. That’s why they always say you look older when you lose your facial fat cuz the shadow start to appear not the skin turning matte.
Perfectly described. It' s actually skin fullness, tightness and bouncing back muscles. _Freshly boiled egg_ is one of the terms used in China to describe the ideal: round, soft, pale, full, naturally wet and bouncy. Imagine the western market trying to introduce this label and make it desirable 😆😅...
@@sebumpostmortem yeah they only took glass and left everything with the most important youthful character which is fullness. Ngl very smart marketing strategy cuz it’s indeed selling.
Some bone structures just aren’t flattered by dewy makeup. I look much better and younger with a more matte finish. For some the opposite is true 🤷🏻♀️
I have VERY dry skin despite living in South Florida and if I move to a matte look, I’ll look like the Crypt Keeper. Not a good look. I need deeply moisturizing things on my face, otherwise I have flakes that pop up and it just looks bad.
I always preferred a soft matte! I have really pale skin and live in Ireland and it helps cover up my paleness so I don’t hear “I’ve seen ghosts with more colour” all the time 😂 not really into the dewy make up, I already look like a glazed donut after my skin care thank you haha. I don’t really comments but I wanted let you know I LOVE your videos, how realistic you are and your make up is always flawless and I love that necklace! ❤
I love when my friends who are brainwashed by dewy makeup are like "omg how do you get your makeup to look so good and last so long?' and it's literally just powder every time!
Yes yes yes to celebrating and emphasizing your own features! But it can be hard to figure out how your face fits into beauty technique keywords. I figured out I have deep-set eyes last year, and learning how to enhance them made me fall in love with eyeshadow! But it definitely was easier and more accessible to learn about the Instagram face than my own features and techniques to enhance them.
Ask yourself, how would you do your makeup if you didn’t have any social media/beauty influencers etc. That thought changed the game for me- just wear what you want, it’s your face. Wear it with confidence and you will glow. Once you stop caring about trends or the opinions of others, you feel free to just wear what you think looks best on your own face.
I’ve never preferred dewy/glowy/glass makeup on myself, mostly because my skin is dry everywhere & has a soft matte look to it. So wearing these all over the face dewy complexion products just makes me look sweaty & greasy, not healthy, haha. I prefer to pinpoint where the glow goes. And I loved your point about working with your face as well as not emphasising too much, because I think that’s one of the easiest things to struggle with, and I know I still do, when you’re doing your makeup & can feel like you need to do it all - cheeks, eyes, lips, etc. I definitely want to experiment with how I do my makeup.
the first time i got several people compliment me on my skin was when i wore a powder foundation and i’ve finally decided to embrace that. i’ve tried so hard to like dewy foundations but again and again they just don‘t look natural or youthful me as they claim to be. they emphasize my pores, oxidize so much and have no longevity.
I remember when I was first thinking about trying out powder foundation and found a Wayne Goss video, and he also emphasized that we should actually blend a lot.
I have battled with dewy skin and my oily skin for a long time. Since I heard you say in one of your last videos that you like matte makeup and accept it because it makes sense for your skin type, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it! The oily skin bothers me since I want coverage sometimes, but makeup doesn’t last long on me and I have to put on a lot of layers in order to lock it in, whether I go dewy or matte. I end up dewy in a few hours anyway! I love the Kosas powder, but I think I like LYS more. I hit pan and it’s tested and true thru this super hot summer and my oily skin!
As I've aged I've found too matte makeup makes me look 10 years older by days end. I'm ok being 38, not ready to look like I'm pushing 50. Best thing I started doing was applying a glowy primer and a satin leaning matte lighter coverage foundation. Even if I have some acne this had made my skin just pop! Less foundation is going to give you that "I have fantastic skin naturally" look. Also, liquid lipstick makes a fantastic long wear blush that blends seamlessly without looking powdery or slipping away in 4 hours.
I personally ADORE eyeshadow, and I've noticed the more I wear eyeshadow, the less I wear blush and vice versa. I was then confused, though, because I was like, I wear bold lips though the more I think about it, the more I realise I don't really. I wear darker but muted lip colours, and that’s what suits me. There is no high shine gloss either, mostly satin lipstick, so whilst it would be stand out if I didn't wear eyeshadow, when I do wear eyeshadow, it mostly works with it. I think anyway.
What you said about eye shadow not being so popular these days because blush is playing such an important role in makeup makes total sense! I’d never thought about that. I prefer soft matte makeup as well, and lately my favorite part is playing with eye shadow 😅
I think people who get upset when you call dewy “oily” really need to reprioritize their skin concerns. Oily skin is really not a bad thing to have and can actually “delay” aging because it’s a natural skin protectant. Everyone being like “it’s gross” or “it’s dirty” are being super immature
My skin is naturally "dewy" and not oily except for maybe my forehead at the end of the day. It looks healthy in a way "matte" makeup never will, because it is my natural skin, and I have minimal breakouts. I don't even wear foundation because my skin looks like I'm wearing a dewy or satin light coverage foundation. So I mostly find it misguided when dewy is considered the same as oily when it isn't the case for some people. Someone else mentioned a "satin" finish as being better than a dewy finish, but a dewy finish can look more satin than high gloss. My real dewy skin has a satin finish. It's not oily skin. It's not dewy or satin makeup. It's genuine satin dewy skin, and it's honestly as youthful and healthy looking as the beauty myth tells. It's just not as common as it should be because people have unhealthy diets, toxic environments, unfortunate genetics, and poor beauty or hygiene practices. There's too much investment in makeup and not enough in actual skincare. I use a prescription retinoid because it is far more potent than any over-the-counter retinol. I use the correct oils and serums to moisturize my skin type. I have that knowledge because I've gone out of my way to find what works for me. As for matte skin, it can look nice. I'm not saying matte skin can't. I am saying that matte makeup often does not look so nice. It has a tendency to be lackluster and dry or flaky. There's a difference. It's the same story with oily skin that lacks breakouts vs oily makeup or oily skin that is heavily acne prone. ...But because I was able to easily achieve dewy or satin skin without makeup, while trying to maintain mostly healthy skin habits and routines, I prefer it over other finishes. I know it's not impossible to achieve, and it's honestly an attractive look that does not age poorly. I think everyone should be aware that it can be done without makeup (with some exceptions, of course).
I just don't feel like matte is me. Maybe one day. But my makeup style is casually sweaty for the time being 😂 especially as someone who face sweats, dewy makeup doesn't emphasize that. And I have pretty good skin and I like to emphasize it.
Love that you use your own thoughts when it comes to applying makeup and ask the "why" and if it actually looks good on you. Such a fantastic video!! ❤ you're a sweetheart😊
I’ve always preferred a satin finish on the skin. It looks the most realistic. Recently, I’ve been doing a no-makeup makeup for my base and brows (especially brows) and then adding the shadow and lip I want to that. That way, my makeup looks more natural overall. Edit: I’ve tried downturned eyeliner after watching your other video and I love it! I want to try the lower blush placement next!
Thank you for this video, Kelly! For the looongest time I was sure that I was finally a makeup expert and that nothing could ever radically change my makeup game. Oh boy, little did I know)) Last year, after a long "minimalist" period during/after the pandemic, I started doing low-key cosplay makeup, featuring bold eyes with altered shape, really bold blush (whereas most people now tend to use bright colours, I love my taupey-plummy blush that makes me look a little bit like a manhwa villain) and bold lips. I really do use A TON of blending, I rely on my natural Caucasian/slightly masculine features (when I'm doing contouring or aegyo sal, for instance), AND I have completely switched to smaller brushes. My larger brushes, especially those for the eyes, worked perfectly when I preferred easier makeup, but for more complex and detailed makeup looks, I have finally realised that you can never get the same results with your regular brushes, you really need something more tapered, angled, etc. Btw, as for the dewy look, I have oily skin, so I really appreciate this thend for normalising shiny skin. Although my eye and lip makeup is usually quite heavy, I do prefer light-to-medium coverage and semi-matte finish for my skin. Even though I sometimes have imperfections, I'd rather they were a bit visible, than applying tons and tons of foundation and powder. And now, during the day, I only keep track of my nose not to be too shiny, As for my cheeks, chin and forehead, I have a much more relaxed approach)
Kelly I really enjoyed how you explained the process of using matte and giving suggested products along with application methods. Good video. Dewy is a good finish as long as it's not an overkill. Soft radiance or luminous yet it still look like a glow from within. I stray away from matte finishes cause the fear of showing any dry skin or feel too harsh such as tightness. I have done satin which Becca had a VERY nice satin foundation. If it is a softer matte (demi-matte), I can get down with it. Blurred and soft suppleness ---> it's a whole vibe!
Also I don't really care about skin 'imperfections' like no thanks I don't need my makeup to be 'long wear' or not even look like real skin anymore. I can't even find foundations for my undertone nor do I care to. I prefer to just put on blush, eye makeup, and lip products if Im wearing makeup at all. I don't like the way matte makeup feels on my skin at all I hate feeling like stuff is on my skin so Im not a huge fan of face powders anyways
I am, ahem, past 50, and I still prefer a soft or semi-matte. Dewy just looks greasy on me. My oily skin stayed oily as I aged, so if I go dewy I look like a teenager with wrinkles. I also prefer that my makeup *last*, and soft matte lasts longer than dewy, which has a tendency to either soak in or rub off. I can touch up lipstick, or setting powder, but not foundation; sorry, once that bad boy goes on my skin it’s got to stay put for at least 6 hours. I have flashbacks to the early 90’s, when dewy once more had its moment after the frosty, frosty, magenta 80’s. I seem to remember a spread from Allure where they mixed eyeshadow with *Vaseline* to get that shiny translucent look. That…is not going to work in real life; it will last about 5 minutes before creasing and running. Likewise the “freshening up” of your foundation with more moisturizer instead of powder. I could not get behind it then and I can’t now. So my beloved Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Serum does get a patting of powder. This way it still has that glowy semi-translucent look, but, I don’t look like the Wicked Witch of the West as she melts. And thankfully if one wants a translucent or stain eyeshadow there are many to pick from and you don’t have to do the jury-rigging that we, or rather, makeup artists, had to do back in the day.
I dont wear makup but i love skincare this year i have added glow drops in my moisturiser i love it people still say im 10 years younger than i am .... why should i stop??
it may seem obvious, but one thing that’s really important for me is picking the right shades. I have lighter features, so i use a brown eyeliner for wings instead of classic black because it seems to make my eyes look way too heavy. a lot of times certain colors can be trending for lips, blush, eyes, etc but they’re not always best suited for your individual features!
Hi Kelly. Let me start off by first saying that I think you are very beautiful. You have a beautiful, classic yet natural beauty. Which I quite love! This video is probably my top favorite on TH-cam as of recently. The reason is because of the honesty that you give. Also, I love how you touched on one of the most important topics, in my opinion, which is that all face shapes are much different. Every person has a different face structure with different facial features. Therefore, as you pointed out in this video, the way someone applies their makeup is NOT and Should NOT be the same for everyone. I think makeup application/placement is just as important as say each of us deciding on what shades of makeup we want to use. It is just as important as the blending process. Makeup is designed to enhance our natural beauty. Whatever that looks like for each person individually. As you pointed out, we don't all have the same features. Therefore, I agree with you completely. Makeup placement is and should be quite different from someone else's. I believe we all are beautiful. We need to not follow trends so much. But use makeup in a way that enhances your own NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL TRAITS! I love your honesty and how you view makeup and beauty. Not in a way that "all size fits one." You have a fresh take on the beauty community. I think we need more of this type of outlook and honesty. I love your ideas and videos. Keep up the great work you do. You are beautiful. As always!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ❤ to you. I'm looking forward to more of your videos! Take care, Kelly.
I like to use setting spray before I start, in the middle once I’ve applied creams, after I’ve applied powders and then at the end!! I also learned an awesome trick from Nikki La rose and she applies powder to her eyebrows and over her lip liner to ensure longevity! With the eyebrows, it’s helpful to apply translucent power so your brow pencil isn’t sliding all over the place
I am in full agreement on this. I am so tired of looking sweaty and greasy 😫 I remember you saying you liked the new Fenty foundation- would you say that’s a good satin formula? The other day I ordered the Fenty soft matte on a whim because I was just so tired of being dewy and my makeup melting off by lunch, but I’m finding it VERY dry.
Stopping this video at 3:48 to say that I absolutely agree that dewy makeup can make you look older. I have extremely dry skin so do appreciate some glow to my makeup as my skin doesn't make much on its own. However, I mattify around my nose as any glow accentuates my pores and I hate that. I spent my 30s not setting my under eyes at all and loved it. I am 40 and have been setting for the last few months and thought it made me look older so, 2 days ago I decided to go back to not setting. Big mistake! Huge! I looked at least 65 under my eyes and HATED my makeup. I set again yesterday and realized I actually looked younger that way. I don't think my makeup needs to make me look youthful, I am blessed to have made it to 40, but it also doesn't need to make me look 25 years older either 🤣
As an oily girl, doing my makeup with any product leaves me still looking a bit shiny, and this has always been the case. But the glamorization of "dewiness" has contorted my perspective to where I don't hate my shininess like I did when matte was in. Hopefully that continues for me even when matte is back. 😊
Something I’ve long suspected but finally confirmed and accepted: in order to match my jawline, chin and lower cheeks to my neck, I need to use a foundation shade that matches my neck! The rest of my face, which naturally catches more light, is almost always going to be at least a half shade deeper. And that’s okay. Today I tried this method using two foundation shades and finally felt like I had a leveled-up complexion that didn’t look incongruous, because I wasn’t fighting the actual skin tones that exist on half of my face for once!
Dewy makeup only looks good with mininal makeup. If that's the look I'm going for, I use a small concealer, blush/bronzer, mascara, and that's it. I will never understand the overly dewy foundations, IMO, they will never achieve the same look
I feel like the reason people think dewy make up gives you a youthful look is because as the skin ages it gets drier. Dewy skin looks youthful because younger people have a glow to their skin. I personally love dewy make up but I use a blurring and mattifying primer and set it with a little powder because I’m oily so it’ll be dewy in an hour anyway. I feel like it’s about balance!
I’m 52 and want dewy products bc lack of estrogen and other hormone with menopause causing dry… everything. So when you start getting dry eyes in 30s and definitely 40s… begin thinking about it being time to begin supplementing.
Eh I’ve just never embraced the dewy makeup trend. On me, I think I just look sweaty. And not in a good, sexy way. In a, “it’s summer & I’ve been working hard outside, sweating my butt off” kinda way. I’ve got mild rosacea too, so my pink face definitely lends credibility to the sweaty vibe😂 My skin is naturally pretty dry though, so I try to do the most with my skincare just so I can get through a workday with semi-matte makeup & not look flakey.
I never understood the hype around dewy skin. The weird thing is: I don't see very dewy make up in real life. Only on TH-cam. I don't live in America, so maybe that matters, but no one in my environment walks around with an all over shiny face. Only online. And the TH-camrs keep on raving about their glow, and I keep wondering.... Do they really think it looks good?
They’re doing that look for their audience on TH-cam or TikTok or Instagram, which is going to look entirely different from face to face in real life. Most ordinary folks are going to dress and make up to be seen in real life; which is why you don’t see a lot of ultra-shiny faces on the street (unless they’re runners!). FWIW, I live in the US, and at least where I live, nobody walks around with a super-shiny face either unless they are very young or in the beauty or fashion industry.
I read the title and all I could think of was the episode of Emily in Paris where they were marketing a face cream that made everyone look wet and goopy. 😂
Lovely sage advise. Everyone even twins have a uniqueness all their own Thank you for.bringing to the for front. I love makeup always have. My teen yrs in the 80s .you makeup consisted of a light pink blush I never wore foundation some eye shadow eye liner and mascara. I never had acne. Very blessed. But you give great advice for even an old lady can take and use.
I have dry skin and I am not a fan of super dewey makeup. I'll keep it a bit glowy and natural for work, by using cream products and a powder that is not super drying (sometimes the makeup forever loose powder and sometimes my mac skinfinish). But if I go out at night or to a wedding, I will be MATTE and FULL COVERAGE BABY!
If I try to go for a dewy look, I end up looking greasy, especially during the summer and I almost never touch up my makeup so it doesn't look good on me..
I like a very slightly dewy highlighter but honestly when I do complexion stuff I mostly do matte or soft matte because I’m so oily anyway it’ll be VERY dewy by the end of the day lol
Dewy skin (whether achieved by make up or a lot of skincare) just looks oily on me and it's so uncomfortable, feels like wearing lipgloss all over the face lmao
Hi! I’m starting to run out of loose setting powders and the two that I’ve found that don’t clog pores are Ami Colé and LYS. So could I ask you to please try them both and give me your opinion (or in another very educational and beautiful video of yours)? I trust your opinion so much and as I am not the richest, I only buy one product per category and would really appreciate your opinion! By the way, I have dry cheeks and under-eyes but an oily nose and my chin and forehead are also oily but not as much.
I recently bought products to try dewy makeup for the first time, which cost me quite a bit of money, but I was excited. And now that I'm trying the trend, everyone seems to be against it. 😢 I have to kind of stick with it because I always use everything to the last bit as I can't afford to just buy and not use.
I idk, but last summer i discovered that for me light dewy makeup it better than "holding" (lol) makeup in place with powder. Dewy makes my oily ass look like its shine was intended from the beginning, what is kinda helpful. Because no matt power has ever worked for 9 hours or more on me, especially in heat - it becomes a whole layered mess not to be fixed Like, just dont layer too much of glowy stuff lol
Typically my makeup starts out looking a bit dewy, not greasy, but I have very dry skin so by the end of the day, I’m typically looking satin or matte but my skin doesn’t feel tight and uncomfortable and my makeup isn’t cracking and looking scaly and weird. I tend to like the way my makeup looks at the end of the day better than the beginning. It’s purposeful and I’ve been doing it this way since before the trend and will probably continue the same way after the trend has passed. I also have always preferred light coverage, I don’t like the feeling of a heavy foundation. My makeup tends to not look like I’m wearing much makeup, it usually wears really well but if it does wear off a bit, it’s not very noticeable. And because I don’t use much powder it’s super easy to repair/add a little more in the evenings if I’m going somewhere. It’s nice that products for people like me are easier to find right now because back in 2016, when I realized full coverage foundation was never going to be my thing, there were not many options.
The part about blending being cut is so, i remember when i first started doing my makeup noone talked about letting concealer dry before powder and it really frustrated me
Once I'm done with my makeup, I step away. I finish my hair, get dressed etc. Then I come back for a second look. I immediately notice things that are "off" and try to add/blend/fix.
Smart!!
I do something similar, I check my makeup in another room/different lighting then make adjustments.
for the longest time, i thought i was doing "dewy" makeup before realising it was actually satin/natural finish. i appreciate a glow from within, but not at the expense of looking like i just ran a marathon.
Me getting offended but realizing this 😂
I have never liked dewy makeup (on myself)! Probably because I've never had great skin. I'll take satin or soft matte any day of the week.
Soft matte is my fave too!
This I what I tell myself. I’m 38 and my skin is changing. I’m not sure how to do my makeup as both my tastes and skin has changed
I LOVE that you are so passionate about fighting against some makeup trends and "rules". We need more of you.
I’m still obsessed with eye shadow. It’s really where I direct my creativity. 💛🌻
Eye makeup is made for creativity! It’s so much fun to play with, at any age.
I love glossy LIPS. I do not want a glossy FACE. If I want a glow I’ll use highlighter. Set with powder.
same my skin is oily and now i dont need to you know YEA EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID and ye i never liked matte lips :'3 maybe nowadays the powder kiss types which came out and k beauty ones are nice but still :'3 i just like glossy anything lol
SAME. I don't do foundation, either, though.
I hated the stickiness of glosses so I leaned matte but after discovering good non sticky lip oils, my life has improved
We really need to stop hopping on trends just because and actually consider what we like and what looks good on us
I’m glad that you’ve found something that works well for you!
Yes same for me here!
I have dry skin and live in a humid climate. I use a combination of both dewy/matte products to achieve a nice subtle glow but with staying power.
@@ModernVintage31 Girl, same! ❤️
So many influencers say that older women should use all cream products but I prefer powders because they stay on better especially when it's hot ❤
That’s so kind! Thank you❤️
I love how Kelly isn't afraid to do her own thing in the makeup community.
I don't like the dewy trend as well, because I have oily acne prone skin, it would slide right off and more oil will break me out.
Having consistency in the colours really ties a look together in my opinion :)
With something more colourful, like a blue eyeshadow, having something in your look that’s complimentary (such as an orange lip, blush or orange inner corner) REALLY makes the look pop!
Yessss! It makes such a big difference!!
I love these tips though about how to use powder!!
Love that!
That is how I apply my primer and foundation but somehow it hadn’t dawned on me yet to do the same with my concealer 😆, thank you I’m going to start trying this
Dewy makeup looks “more youthful” because it makes you look like you’re a teenager who needs some good ol’ Clean & Clear oil absorbing sheets, lol.
Someones finally saying it 😩
Realest comment here
HAHAHAHA
😆😆 true!
Dewy makeup make good skin look stunning tho , like you’ve been drinking plenty water and antioxidant smoothies
Same here.
LMAO yess I could not just go around with an unset face, everything just rubbing off onto everything and melting away.
THIS! 😂🙌🏽
Dewy makeup on my oily face just slides right off. I wish i could pull it off
Matte makeup looks the perfect amount of dewy on my oily face 😂
Ask yourself, how would you do your makeup if you didn’t have any social media/beauty influencers etc. That thought changed the game for me- just wear what you want, it’s your face. Wear it with confidence and you will glow. Once you stop caring about trends or the opinions of others, you feel free to just wear what you think looks best on your own face.
I'm here for the dewy makeup with powder. I Do not enjoy matte foundation on me , but matte blush and bronzer sure
I love dewy make up, but I don´t want to look oily. So I used powder products just in the right amount so that everything looks smooth and soft.
Great video 🙏
I blend in my foundation way longer it makes a huge difference in how my makeup looks.
I love that!
I think people who get upset when you call dewy “oily” really need to reprioritize their skin concerns. Oily skin is really not a bad thing to have and can actually “delay” aging because it’s a natural skin protectant. Everyone being like “it’s gross” or “it’s dirty” are being super immature
Like sorry not sorry but oily skin is just by definition less dirty than skin with makeup on it
My skin is naturally "dewy" and not oily except for maybe my forehead at the end of the day.
Hi Kelly this is not related to the video but PLEASE show us how you do your DIY front balayage/highlights in your hair they’re SO well done
I have to imagine a seetgeek sponsorship is a great one. Love this for you!!
The Givenchy Prisme Libre powder is great for blurring but not mega matte. It’s very forgiving for texture and wrinkles
I love your perspective and statements on why you wear makeup.
I have dry skin and I actually don’t like looking super dewy , specially on my nose I’ll blot or powder it a lil . Your hair looks so gorgeous btw 🫶🏼.
No matter what trends we get i always stick with matte makeup and thick eyebrows
I’ve spent years fighting oily skin, was always a bit skeptical about dewy
Blurred and soft suppleness ---> it's a whole vibe!
biggest oily skin flex is not needing makeup to look dewy (but also being annoyed that people hate your skin type then treat it like a trend lol)
I like to use a combo of creams and powders to achieve a light coverage, yet pop of color set look.
You are beautifully flawless! Loved this video. What makeup do you have on? 🌸
I want to try these!! They sound perfect for me.❤🙌
I like to use setting spray before I start, in the middle once I’ve applied creams, after I’ve applied powders and then at the end!!
Great video. Great informative and helpful tips. So glad you made this video.👍✔️💯❣️
Yes! So over the dewy look. Definitely not for everyone, especially me (59).
Your make this world wonderful Kelly, looking absolutely stunning today😍🌹!
FWIW, I live in the US, and at least where I live, nobody walks around with a super-shiny face either unless they are very young or in the beauty or fashion industry.
the necklace is sooo cute
Always love your recommendations and I am 58 and while I do some Botox, I am also not trying to look 25!
Rly off topic but WHERE did you get that charm necklace!? It’s sooooo cute! I love the little fruits on it
I read the title and all I could think of was the episode of Emily in Paris where they were marketing a face cream that made everyone look wet and goopy. 😂
I was about to buy the jones road powder and was scared to take the jump, but you just sold me
Lovely sage advise. Everyone even twins have a uniqueness all their own
Thank you for.bringing to the for front. I love makeup always have. My teen yrs in the 80s .you makeup consisted of a light pink blush I never wore foundation some eye shadow eye liner and mascara. I never had acne. Very
blessed. But you give great advice for even an old lady can take and use.
Where’s your necklace from? It’s so cute!!
Kendra Scott!
I start dewy cause of my prep and I’m dry but then I set my face is a good amount of powder😂 I hate the feeling of things sticking in my makeup
I think dewy makeup works in the winter and matte makeup works in the summer and that’s how we should do it
I like a very slightly dewy highlighter but honestly when I do complexion stuff I mostly do matte or soft matte because I’m so oily anyway it’ll be VERY dewy by the end of the day lol
Lovely video, thank uou ❤🎉
ok, but that necklace is adorable
Dewy skin (whether achieved by make up or a lot of skincare) just looks oily on me and it's so uncomfortable, feels like wearing lipgloss all over the face lmao
Kelly Gooch, awesome content bro
LOVED THIS!! 'Mega Matte' all the way!
Use them!! I think there’s always a time for dewy makeup! I hope you like the products you picked up :)
I idk, but last summer i discovered that for me light dewy makeup it better than "holding" (lol) makeup in place with powder. Dewy makes my oily ass look like its shine was intended from the beginning, what is kinda helpful. Because no matt power has ever worked for 9 hours or more on me, especially in heat - it becomes a whole layered mess not to be fixed
Like, just dont layer too much of glowy stuff lol
I like to use the same tone blush as I use on my eyes. So they coordinate
What’s the sparkly shadow you’re wearing?
The part about blending being cut is so, i remember when i first started doing my makeup noone talked about letting concealer dry before powder and it really frustrated me
CUTE necklace! 🥰
Thank you!
