I just realized that I forgot to link the grooming tools in the description, but I'll do it when I get back home. My mom and I are out going to the doctors, and we are seriously having so much fun together - We can't stop laughing at our silliness! 😂 Update: Links are up!
Harlow is absolutely precious! I wanted to see if you had ever thought about doing a video strictly with Harlow's funny antics from various clips in your vlogs (bath time zoomies, barking funny where she was doing pushups, silly play sessions)? I thought it would be too cute! She is certainly sunshine in a dreary day. Love that dog!
This video is really cute, and while I couldn't place why at first, I think it's because when you're grooming Harlow we get to see just a girl and her dog
I'm a dog groomer and i have to say you do an excellent job at grooming her! And she is so good for it!! With trimming her feet. I would say to use your fingers to pull the fur up between her toes, then brush up the fur, and use your thinners to trim the fur on top and shears for the fur around her feet. And if you trim down towards her nails instead of towards her body then it won't look choppy and will look more blended :)
I have a question for you Brittany, that was weird cuz I'm Brittany XD but my dog is a golden like Harlow but she does not like being groomed like that. Is there something I could do to get her more comfortable with it? She is almost 4 years old and she doesn't like her feet touched so I can't trim her nails or cut the fur from her toes, she acts like her feet are ticklish lol! And she doesn't like her tail brushed, butt fluff brushed, and when I brush her she literally goes in circles around you and you have to chase her around lol! And I can only give her baths in our shower with me in it... I need help lol! Or should I have a professional do it?
facebook.com/groups/nail.maintenance.for.dogs/ If you use Facebook this group is AWESOME it is an entire group dedicated to showing you how to make your dog love nail trims. If they don't like the clippers you can use a Dremel, you can file their nails, You can even get them to do their own nails with a scratchboard! It is all about creating a positive association with the grooming experience! TThis is just a few starting videos but the group I mentioned is AMAZING. th-cam.com/video/LHgBvnQ71ss/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/7cq5X8aV95E/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/EITYvqs32Hg/w-d-xo.html
Britts From The Bong hey! Well i have a lab mix and she is 8 and its not until 3 years ago that i got her to be good for trimming nails and shaving pads. First of all, id go slow with her and make it a positive experience. I would put a leash on her or a halti get someone to hold that while they feed her treats and you do all tge stuff you want to her. If you kneel beside her with you facing her bum where you can place your arm around her and lift up all her feer . It is a lot easier to trim nails and feet in the position. You will have more control over her. When it comes to brushing all you need is a slicker brush and metal comb to give a good brushing. Dogs will act like 2 year olds if they dont like you doing something to them. When it comes to brushing they just have to get over it lol. Now this takes time and a lot of positive encouragement. Took my dog about a year before she lets me do it. But also playing with their feet sticking your fingers between her pads could help her get used to it. Just try those things lol. And if all else fails. You can always visit your local grooming salon they might be able to give you more tips. Or you can bring her there and work with your dog to make her better. Tell them you want to learn how to do all those things better, we love ppl who say they actually will listen to our advice aha. Oh and ps. If you are new to cutting nails and if you can quick her it is prob better to get a salon to do it so that you dont make her more scared. I hope i helped!!
Brittany Naeckel thank you so much! That did help! If she still gives me problems then i might ask the mobile groomer my neighbor uses and i will have to be with her. When she got fixed i had to pick her up and take her back because she wouldnt go with the dr. She is very nervous lol. And i have special dog nail clippers because she doesnt like drilling kinda sounds like the hair dryer and vacuum
Another good tip for grooming dogs that shed a lot (and the rake-style brush works well for this) is to brush the dog first against the direction the hair grows in. It loosens up all that hair and brings it out so that when you then brush with the hair growth direction (meaning head to tail), it comes out. You'll notice you get significantly more hair out by doing this first!
I love watching your groom days! I'm getting my new prospect next week, who happens to be a longhaired breed (Shiloh shepherd) and this makes me look forward to grooming! I can't wait to relax with my SD on groom days and pamper them. Thank you for showing so many aspects of service dog life!
OMG Love Harlow with her squeaky toy! I had a yellow Lab who would squeak and squeak and squeak. I loved it, though, because she was bed ridden due to hip dysplasia and this was one of the few ways she had to show us she was having fun and happy. Love your pink shoes by the way :)
JW is a flea comb... rake is for undercoat.... the 2 teeth row rakes are better... I personally would use a smaller shaver to less likely nick pads...Just some tips...
Jackie: I hope you're doing well. I was curious to know if the Roomba picks up dog hair efficiently? As I mentioned in previous comments to you, I have a Labrador or Golden retriever cross service dog and he sheds quite a bit. I would like to get a Roomba to clean up after indoor grooming sessions but I'm not sure how effective it would be... Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated. If I don't talk to you before then, I hope you enjoyed have a Merry Christmas and happy new year. :-) Thanks so much, K&V
It must have been grooming day today! My miniature schnauzers were at the groomer for four hours today. They came home so clean and fluffy, and they looked really cute! But I think the groomer forgot to trim their nails, so I have to call her in the morning to see if I can bring them back. She’s a little snippy, so I hope she doesn’t get mad at me. Wish we could dremel the dogs’ nails the way you do Harlow’s. She’s so good and patient. You did a great job!
Remember that not every dog like clippers and not all of them like the Dremel. facebook.com/groups/nail.maintenance.for.dogs/ If you use Facebook this group is AWESOME it is an entire group dedicated to showing you how to make your dog love nail trims. If they don't like the clippers you can use a Dremel, you can file their nails, You can even get them to do their own nails with a scratchboard! It is all about creating a positive association with the grooming experience! You have to fiund which tool works best for you and your dog. Good luck!
Hallo Jaquie! Just loved you grooming and pampering the perfect 'Hippo'😊😀 As an old HHGTG, I was amazed that an answer to 'what is life?' , came up with the famous '42'😁 ( the incredible, late Douglas Adams!) But if I remember correctly, the computer couldn't actually remember what the 'original question' was😂 ('what's the meaning to life, the Universe, and everything 😁) All love to you 3, Claire, Berlin, Germany 😊 😙 😙 😙
Okay, this is crazy!! On your new guest bed, the blue and white top blanket you have is my EXACT same one on my bed in my room!! I love it, and I hope you do to 😃
Glad you're feeling better Jaquie! Harlow is gorgeous =). Growing up we had a golden/yellow lab mix, overall his fur was short enough it didn't need trimming. If it did I'd have been apprehensive to have taken scissors to it!
Good luck at the dr! I had 2 appts yesterday and the one with my pain mgmt doctor I left crying I was so mad. He walked in the room, didn't say a word to me, signed the prewritten scripts and left. Then when I told the nurse I needed to discuss something he came in all mad. He totally discounts everything I say and acts like I don't know anything. Safe to say I'm searing for a new doc
Hi Savannah. That is awful but not that uncommon. Even when you ill or need help it seems you still have stand up for yourself. Good you are searching for a better doc. I am rooting for you. Jane
Savannah Ballard what an unprofessional doctor. I hope the next one you find listens and takes what your saying into account. That's so awful, I'm so sorry that you had to deal with that.
Can I ask where the gray blanket on the guest bed is from? It looks like something I could totally use since my current blanket is getting old. Love the vlog, as usual; I really hope your health keeps up like it has been the past few weeks!! Harlow is *such* an adorable dog and so well behaved!
There's something called mushers wax I beleive that's the. But you just put it on the pads and it helps with the cracking. I use it on my dog to help with his pads
1:52 Good bark. 3:42 Maybe Chelsie Hill has an idea for it. Maybe she has already made a video about it, although I did just try some searches and couldn't find any. Anyway, here's where you can find Chelsie's TH-cam channel: th-cam.com/users/ChelsiesJourney92 5;12 Something got Harlow's attention. Is there a smell? 12:18 I swear I was waiting for the 42! LOL 12:25 Yes I have. I just tried that same question on SIRI. She just answered: 42.
I have a big male golden retriever and everytime i brush him i take a whole new animal of fur out of him. Soooo much hair we are never done brushing the hair just keeps coming and coming...
GREAT choice for music. Highly Suspect is a VERY good band. you may also like "Breath in the water" by Kyng. check it out. Great to see you're doing good Jaquie! love seeing your furbaby loves being pampered.
For your new intro it'd be super cute if you used the clip of Harlow looking at the camera with the Dino in her mouth! Lol, of course if u don't use it, your intro will still be amazing
+Avery McNarland we were going to go to the mall yesterday. Julian was going to give me some wheelchair tips, I was going to give him some handler tips. But I was too worn out for something like that, and he had something come up. So we are going to try again another day! (:
I love your vlog. I have many issues and watching yours sure helps me. I have one question, how do you maneuver stairs? I am kinda new here I may have missed it before.

+service dog cooper With my SmartDrive it really is not something I need. And since I don't need it, I don't plan to train it. Simply because the less I need to ask of Harlow's joints, the better. I really need the SmartDrive to use the wheelchair independently, so even if it stopped working Harlow's momentum pulling would not be enough for me to use my chair alone.
When she has small quail eggs she just puts the whole intact egg in the bowl and Harlow gets to chomp it up and get to the gooey inside herself. Dogs love them and the shells are a healthful treat.

As someone who's born at the end of December, I would like to wish your dad a very happy birthday and I hope he enjoys his day.
Where did the nickname Hippo come from? It's so cute! I'm sure they've explained in previous videos.
It's because she loves the water, just like a hippo does!
Love the bed set, and you can't even tell with the pillows. :)
Love the new bed set. Harlow is one beautiful pup.
I love watching Harlow getting pampered, she is so beautiful

Ok.....my Google mini turns on each time you say hey Google! Pretty funny. And I got the reference to Hitchhiker's Guide
Jacquie every time you say hey Google play... my echo dot plays your song selection lollll
Okay, this is crazy!! On your new guest bed, the blue and white top blanket you have is my EXACT same one on my bed in my room!! I love it, and I hope you do to 😃
Harlow has be best "resting concerned face" I've ever seen on a golden 😂
Glad you're feeling better Jaquie! Harlow is gorgeous =). Growing up we had a golden/yellow lab mix, overall his fur was short enough it didn't need trimming. If it did I'd have been apprehensive to have taken scissors to it!
You and Judd should get a go-pro and a dig harness for it and clip it on Harlow one time and upload what Harlow sees during the day with Jaquie!
I love my dremmel just need to be very careful it gets hot on the nail with friction quickly!
I have that same grooming scissor set! I’ve been using it on my toy poodle for about a year, and they work great!
So warm! Where I live it’s like 10 degrees ❄️❄️❄️

Harlow looked so cute 🙂 probably getting my service dog soon🙂
As I am catching up, my Google home mini started talking so it must have picked up when jaquie asked for the songs
I love using the rake for my Aussie mix. It gets so much of the loose fur out! Especially around her bum, where her fur gets really thick.
Love the way google started with the definition and without a pause says 42
I love that she is feeling amazing
A Harlow spa day! So cute
I really loved this pamper the hippo day!! I love Harlow she is my puppy crush!
What princess doesn't love to be pampered from time to time. Harlow is no different.
You look like you feel better today.
Do you have an Amazon wish list for Harlow ?
I have one for my doggo lol
Can I ask where the gray blanket on the guest bed is from? It looks like something I could totally use since my current blanket is getting old.

The bed set is beautiful. Harlow pretty pampered girl. ☺
Can I get a list of what you feed Harlow??? She’s such a beauty
You looked wonderful today!! Happy to see that!!
Everytime she said hey Google my Google on my phone went off! Lol!
I loved that Google knows 42!
Hahaha my google home also started to play music because it was near me 🤷🏻♀️
I love hippo unique personality.

I have both the clipper set and scissors set :-)

👍Spray paint headboard great idea.
LOL i have the same. You can cuf judds hair. Merry Christmas ya'll. HUGS🎄🎁🙏😉🐾🐈🐕💜💖❄
My dog would look at me and laugh and say I'm not eating this at all 😂
Do you plan on doing any fun training outings with Julian and Atlas?
+Avery McNarland we were going to go to the mall yesterday. Julian was going to give me some wheelchair tips, I was going to give him some handler tips. But I was too worn out for something like that, and he had something come up. So we are going to try again another day! (:
Chronically Jaquie Oh awesome! Can't wait to see a video with all of you! :D
Whal Clippers are really good with what brand are the shears
PS
So absolutely thrilled that you've read 'The trilogy in four parts'😊
My google home was going crazy hahaha
Chronically Jaquie Is there a reason that you prefer the Dremel instead of clippers is there a huge difference?
cassie Bowen you can get closer to the quick with the dremmel and it helps the nail not be as sharp and jagged
There's also less chance of splitting the nail if the clippers aren't sharp enough and it ends up just kind of crushing one.
I love your vlog. I have many issues and watching yours sure helps me. I have one question, how do you maneuver stairs? I am kinda new here I may have missed it before.
Haha my Google home went off when you said "hey Google".
Does Harlow have something wrong with her right eye? Or is it allergies? Hope you all are have a Merry Christmas. Keep moving forward with your health.
Hi Joan. Golden's commonly have this eye discharge that looks like running mascara. Eye wipes are a staple among these breed owners. But ya, it could be allergies if they show signs of irritation. I'm sure Harlow is fine. =) I second a happy holidays to Jaquie and friends!
In her All ABout Harlow video, she said it was allergies.
Hey Jaquie! I just wanted to say how inspiring you are to me. I don't have the same illnesses as you but I do have some mental illnesses, we are both warriors! I don't know what I would do if I couldn't watch your vlogs everyday. You give me the strength to get out of bed everyday and do all of the things I need to do. Also was wondering if I could get a shout out on Wednesday (the 20th) it's my birthday! It would make my day I'm turning 13 and I would just be sooooo happy if you could. Even just saying my name would mean the world to me. Anyway, thanks. ~Tessa Kievit
What is the meaning of life: "Also, 42." *YES!*
My birthday is Dec 31 as well !!!!
Thx for sharing your story. Merry Christmas
how did hippo name come long
It would look cute if you painted the headboard black
if you cant go out in thr heat get a dog grooming glove on amazon
Couldn't find the trimming aet but I am interested
Spa day for the hippo!
I love you and Harlow so much ❤
It IS 42!!!!!!! 😂😂😂
Have you ever considered teaching Harlow momentum pull for you while your in your wheelchair
She doesn't need to because she has smartdrive which propels the wheelchair by itself
Amber B yes I know I'm talking about for if the smart drive ever stops working and she needs to use her wheelchair
It could also be bad for Harlows back. Also if it stopped working she could send it back
+service dog cooper With my SmartDrive it really is not something I need. And since I don't need it, I don't plan to train it. Simply because the less I need to ask of Harlow's joints, the better. I really need the SmartDrive to use the wheelchair independently, so even if it stopped working Harlow's momentum pulling would not be enough for me to use my chair alone.
How do you trim her pads?
oh cool my moms birthday is the 31st also happy birthday to your dad!!!!
😂 I got the same scissor kit and love them
I'm a December 31st baby ❤️ Me and your dad share a birthday 🎉
did you give hippo the shell of the egg?
Yes she did.
Was that intentional?
Trisha B Yes, it’s for calcium. It’s safe for dogs!
Crazy! I've never heard of that. Thanks
The dinosaur needs a name. Lol
Such a good girl!!
That's what I do with my Amazon Alexa too. I ask random question like where do u live, are u married. It's funny the answers that it gives.
Wakako Tsujita Same I thought I was the only one lol :)
42 i almost peed myself so funny harlow looks beautiful
Tell google to call santa! It's so cute
Do you also let Harlow eat the egg shell? Just wondering is it ok.
Sameeksha Shukla think of it this way, if you can give your dog bones, they can handle a thin eggshell which is packed of calcium
Yes it is totally fine, actually good for dogs, even though it seems weird to us humans😊
When she has small quail eggs she just puts the whole intact egg in the bowl and Harlow gets to chomp it up and get to the gooey inside herself. Dogs love them and the shells are a healthful treat.
It’s good for us too some people use them as a calcium supplement by boiling them and then baking them and grinding them into a powder and then they can be added to food
Good to know, i never gave egg shell to my dog before will try now. love you Harlow!
I LOVE LYDIA BY HIGHLY SUSPECT!!!!!!!!
