    Wow you are a master craftsman! Maybe you can give me a little guidance? I purchased a kit that has the stitching along the edges of the leather like you fabricated. The kit has some very thin double-sided tape which I assume that I am going to run around the seam line correct? I'm assuming I will leave a little table so I can pull the backside how to tape to expose a sticky part as I progress with the stitching. I will probably have to take the airbag and Horn off in order to get the edges to fit on the three spokes properly. My biggest question is I don't know where to start the stitching?? And also how to hide the knot?? I'm hoping maybe you can help me with a little guidance and suggestions? Thank you!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The first step is to cut off the thread stitches in the center line by using a razor blade. The next step is to start unsticking the edges with your fingers and a spatula. The unsticking should be done all around the rim. The last step is to unfold the cover from the top to the bottom.
      Clean off the surface rim with acetone or another solvent.
      If you do not need the cover anymore, you could make several cuts to make the uncovering easier.

    hello. I must say you were a great source of inspiration and a big push for starting DIY upholstery projects. That turned surprisingly well. Started with the steering weel and ending with the whole seats shift gear, etc. On my self built campervan. Having custom leather upholstery is a big game changer for the aestetic of the camper. Thanks. Question: is there a way of covering with leather the center of a steering weel with airbag? the deploying pre cuts are visible.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible if the central piece is cut following/respecting the contour of 'tearing lines' which are visible. It means simulating it is sewn down but it is not. It is only attached/glued down.

    how to make a pattern for a leather steering wheel so that there are no wrinkles on the inside of the steering wheel ???

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not easy to avoid the wrinkles inside the rim because the stretching of leather is not 100% in one direction.
      It is possible to make patterns if we cut the pieces on uniform stretch areas of the leather material.

    Excelentes videos Don Cesar. Me sirven mucho porque quiero intentar tapizar el volante de mi carro. obviamente como no tengo maquina las costuras las hace a mano. jejeje. necesito un consejo, espero me pueda ayudar. Como determino la medida en centimetros del rectángulo que debo cortar para tapizar mi volante? me refiero al largo en centimetros. es que veo en sus videos que el cuero entra muy ajustado entonces supongo que a la medida en centimetros de la circunferencia externa del volante debo restarle algunos centimetros. Gracias por su ayuda y por tan excelentes video. Muchos éxitos.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      La medida que manda para los volantes es la de la circunferencia interior. Hay que colocar la pieza rectangular en el sentido que estira el material (vinil o piel/cuero).

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, As this part is on constant daily rubbing while driving it is advisable a protected leather (transparent sealer on top) called automotive. These upholstery leathers come 1.2, 1.3 to 1.4 mm thick.
      As where to buy it depends on where we are. It could be directly from a tannery or local supplier.
      It is not necessary a full leather hide. I have found some useful links if you are located in USA to get small pieces:

    Hello Cechaflo.
    I'm attempting my first wheel this week, and have a question for you. I see that you allow 6mm (12mm total) for the stretch around the outside of the steering wheel. If there were three seems, would you allow the same 6mm (12mm total) on each seem or would you divide the total stretch allowance by the three joins making 2mm (4mm total for each join).

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Michael, The method I am showing in this video is only applied for a 'one junction cover'. In case of covers with two or more junctions they should be molded individually using the 6mm additional allowance as a standard measure. The allowance would be wider if the rim of the wheel is thicker.
      This support video' gives us more explanation about this 'additional allowance':th-cam.com/video/WxpSFNkjhY8/w-d-xo.html

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Charles, I do not know the correct piping size for that model. I only would say it is a little more of 1 cm diameter. A 'soft rubber hose' would be useful...just wrap around a strip of vinyl/fabric/leather material as if you were doing standard thin piping. To ease the sewing use a 'roller presser foot', otherwise it would be difficult to sew so big piping. If you get 'soft, solid rubber pipe' it would be much better. Habría que rellenar con algún producto similar. El aro de goma puede ser duro o blando. Si es duro podemos usar alguna resina epóxica para reparar. Y si la goma es blanda podemos usar el adhesivo de poliuretano que se usa para pegar los vidrios de los carros. Luego de la reparación se tendría que forrar con el cuero/piel el volante.

    I saw another guy on TH-cam do it this was. It looks lazy and crappy. The cross thread is pulling on the first thread causing stress on it. I don't think it will last long but, that's okay. You can always redo it the right way later.
    I've seen you do a great baseball stitch.....this isn't it.
    You've much better work.

      Se podría decir que este video es un extracto del curso completo que dura 3 horas.

      would be interesting if you could show us how it is done, because for me this has been one of the best videos I have seen and it has helped me cover the steering wheel of my car.

      You are right! As this video is educational I think the most important part is the whole content and process. It is not of great importance one skipped stitch. Unless we were in a competition of upholstery.
      BTW, I have already corrected the mistake, not a big deal.
