I think people are misreading this as Hank is scared of John Redcorn. He isn't. This is more to show that John Redcorn isn't afraid of Hank. We see throughout the series that Hank will take on bigger guys if it's the right thing, hell he takes on that former Cowboys Tackle who is 6'7" and a pro athlete because it's the right thing to do. To me this shows a more mutual respect that Hank and John have. John says right there that he isn't scared of Hank, and Hanks shows that even if Redcorn is bigger and younger Hank will still *try* to kick his ass.

There's some story board sort of 'blueprints' of KoTH out there on google telling the animators things to keep in mind while drawing the characters. There's one of Hank that has a note that says something like "Could kick John Redcorn's ass if he was really angry."
@James McGee In my opinion, I think that John Redcorn NOT being afraid of Hank is indeed the point of the scene. He's not going to leave Peggy alone out of fear of Hank, but out of respect. The two tend to be friends throughout the series, and Hank often goes to Redcorn for advice.

I love how Hank still glowers at John Redcorn when he says "your wife came to me with a headache," forcing Redcorn to clarify that he was being literal. Subtle exchanges like that are what make this such a great show.
You can tell Redcorn respects Hank and Hank isn't intimidated by him. This is why we all knew Peggy wasn't going to be seduced.

John Redcorn may stand there all muscles and confidence while Hank threatens him, but I wouldn't want a man who knows that much about propane mad at me. That little trailer of John Redcorn's may go up in an "accidental" fireball.
There was a propane mishap a few years ago in Tacoma. A faulty fitting on the tank at the foundry resulted in an explosion that killed the delivery guy and caused massive damage. I heard the explosion from two miles away and it felt like short mini quake. The lights flickered all the way to Lakewood. Respect propane like it not doing it could make it your last day on earth.

I admire that Hank absolutely did not back down...even after the magic wind blowing his hair...he doubles-down before walking away. Hank is the man.

This isn't 'awkward.' John respects the threat and Hank's morals, Hank is acknowledging the respect shown, moment of silence, then polite departure with the mutual understanding this isn't an idle threat.

John Redcorn has one of the more interesting arcs in this show, going from a mystic wife-conqueror to, well, kind of a loser.
Meh, he got a nice chunk of land from the government, became a successful children's musician, and combined the two to form a nice small business. Then he reunited with an old girlfriend and her daughter by him, and they moved in together with her other kid to form a family. That's not a bad ending.

Hard to tell if John Redcorn actually respects Dale or not. I think maybe he didn't at first, probably barely even knew him, but obviously they have to get to know each other with John Redcorn hanging around his house every other day. I imagine John probably did eventually think of Dale as a friend, he apologizes profusely when he thinks he's ever caught, but at that point he's much to invested in his relationship with Nancy to call it off for Dale.
Just watched this episode on Hulu and Hank threatening John Redcorn while casually accepting the beer without acknowledging it cracked me up for 5 minutes. The subtle humor of this show is so good.

I think John's just not afraid of Hank. He's taller, stronger, and younger (I think). Plus, Hank's at a disadvantage if you take his glasses off. That's not to say Hank wouldn't win though.

Proving he has a chin and at least knows how to throw a punch. john redcorn showed how unathletic he was in the kick ball games where he can’t even kick a ball rolling are him slowly and can’t catch one when thrown at him and got pelted in the face. Just because he’s buff doesn’t mean he knows how to fight or can take a punch, just look at bob sapp, brock lesnar, paulo costa.
