So I'm helping to plan a trip to Linville Gorge NC with 7 to 9 friends from church. I used this video as motivational inspiration to start training... hoping they see a tangle of bushes on a mellow hike and run through it to see how that turns out! Love the reasons you guys did the hike too. Keep up the great work
Thanks for watching and passing this along Jim! Keep us posted on your trip! That quote "hoping they see a tangle of bushes..." might make its way into an upcoming podcast episode. That got a big laugh! :)
That's awesome that you're hiking with people from Church. The Lord loves it when we do awesome things for & with his bride! Jim Hill, keep up the good work! Btw, have you done the hike yet?
Rocky Brown awesome to hear from you. Sadly NC stopped giving out backcountry passes when the a Covid lockdown started. In the replanting effort I tried to find a time that all 8 of us could go but that didn’t work. So with a very solemn expression I told my bride that I was going to have to sacrificially lead two trips into Linville Gorge! Yah she saw right through that, but she still said I could go. One in early September and another in October. The second trip is already back up to 8 people. I am going to take my 13 year old son on the first... he will smoke us all!
@@jimhill715 That was a genius maneuver! A solemn expression?! Pure genius. Fantastic that you get to take your 13-year-old son. What a great time the two of you and the rest of the group should have. Lord, please open this whole thing up according to Your will so that Jim, his son, and his whole crew can get on trail for You Your glory. In Jesus's Name, Amen. God bless you, Jim Hill!
Inspiring video and I appreciated watching Jared deal with and overcome adversity- a lot of times hiking videos make everything look perfect. Appreciate the honesty
Thanks Yuri! I'll tell Rocky but he's humble and thinks of himself as more of a David. :) We recorded our next episode for Monday and mentioned your saw!
Hahaha I just recently took out two of my coworkers on the overnight trip and one of their chores was to gather up some wood. After I set up camp I was helping them cut the wood and as I was cutting I remember thinking to myself “this thing is awesome I’m not sure why these guys are knocking it” lol. We were in the Catskills and it got down to about 32 degrees at night so the fire was the centerpiece of the night. We cut a few thick pieces which definitely helped us stay warm until bedtime. On the side note let Rocky know that with great power comes great responsibility! He seems like he won’t abuse his Goliath strength.
@@DeepStateYuri 32 in the Catskills is COLD! I'm sure we'll bring the saw up again when we hit a "fire" episode. But yeah "centerpiece" is a great world for campfires. Love them! And I'll have Rocky read the comments on this video. :)
Yuri! Thanks for the compliment, man! I actually can't even run right now due to some pinched nerve or something like that in my left hip. Carl's right, I Pray to be the David type, but your encouraging words are awesome, brotha!
Rocky Brown Feel better brother there’s a lot of us out there that find ourselves in your shoes on the trail. Last MP3 you sent to the podcast was awesome! This whole time I’m overthinking what to pack but in reality all the extra weight makes me more of a man! Hope you come on the podcast soon always like hearing from you sharing your thoughts and opinions.
Thanks Bethany! We invite you to tune in to our weekly podcast Backpacking & Blisters if you're looking for more inspiration/information/entertainment. :)
Great job! And great video Carol. I like the music you used. The ending music really brought me up to feel the excitement of the ending. I've been struggling with a career decision the last two days and watching this has really calmed me down and made me realize that I have not been trusting that He will guide me in the right decision.
Hey Mike, I really appreciate your comment. Are you looking at switching jobs? Jared and I have been there relatively recently. I'll keep you in prayer of this. Please give an update. And thank you for your encouraging words!
@@BackpackingandBlisters thank you very much for your prayers. Same company, but yes, changing jobs. It would be moving from a "comfortable" position into a Project management role. What job did you switch into? You were a teacher right?
@@cmacrafton Hmmm....will it hinder your ability to...go backpacking? :) That's a tough one. But the Lord could be raising you up for leadership where you'll have a greater impact on His behalf. Thank you for sharing! I'll continue to pray for you brother.
Wow what a beautiful thing to watch. Wonderful accomplishment and awesome example of what godly men look like. First I’ve heard of this channel thanks to Dan Becker!
Really appreciate the encouragement Renae! We post vids every once in a while. But we're more of a weekly podcast. We include a somewhat relatable verse in each episode. :) We had Dan on in August. We really like him and what he's doing! Thanks again!
betruto 22, Amen! FKT 2020 is looking a bit on the bleak side / doubtful for happening right now for reasons that will be... hopefully revealed in the video of it, Lord willing! The Lord has told me that I'm to charge this thing (at least He is saying that now) - even if I have to charge it alone. Of course in the words of Eomer, "Not alone." Jesus is always by my side. Thanks, betruto 22!
Sorry, this comment just popped up for me. So, a few weeks ago Jared and Rocky went for it in Yosemite! I had to pull out due to injuries. That ended up causing some issues. A brief version of this story will be shared on our podcast later this month. The video is in the works. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video Carl. Glad you carried the extra weight so we could all see your FKT trip. I make home videos for my family vacations and quick trips with my friends into the wilderness. I know how hard it can be to do the editing so don’t let Derek give you any flack.
Hey Riley, this comment is 4 months old and it just popped up for me. I know we've since discussed this, but just wanted to say, thanks for the comment!
I don't know why you guys aren't getting thousands of views and subs. You're content is on par with the other backpacking guys. I bet if you started posting video versions of the podcast and did a few collaborations it'd snowball.
You are too kind. We have been focusing primarily on the podcast and don't put many videos out. I think I could do a better job promoting the videos if I commit the time. The video podcasts are a good idea. We tried having the audio streamed through TH-cam...not much interest. And since Derek and I are in different states this would be an endeavor to set up. I'm happy just to get him on the microphone. :)
To be honest, I laughed inappropriately for the first 5 minutes at the intense music and interview segments. I guess with all the shenanigans and cutting up Carl and Derek do on the podcast I was expecting something silly to happen. 🤣 I eventually caught on it's a serious video. Anyway, you guys are beasts. 37 miles is an impressive feat! Also interested in those cricket snacks.
Hey we'll take the laughs. :) It was sort of a serious video. We definitely trained and went all in on the event but we still think what Rocky brought was ridiculous. We also had a bunch of lighter hearted moments get lost among all the GoPro footage that got deleted before editing. Anyway, if you're looking for ridiculous, the backpacking vid coming out soon will have plenty of that! And shoot me your address
Hey Alex! Thanks for listening to the show! Really appreciate it. Yeah, we've been out of those cricket bars for a while now. This video has been up for a bit. Sounds like you're not caught up yet but we're currently offering Clif Bars for reviews on the Apple podcast app if that's what you use.
:) We appreciate everyone who listens to our podcast. And I do my best to reply to every comment on TH-cam, FB, Instagram, email, etc. The comments keep us going. Especially when we're talking cricket bars. :)
Haha! I can safely say he does not; I can also safely say that the area of the trail he's referring to really did look like it was a gigantic earth ledge that might've fallen off into nowhereness. 😆 Thanks for watching, betruto 22.

When my Sawyer squeeze was new, the water did not want to flow through the filter. After a while it got better.
You are fortunate my friend. I had tried it out on a previous trip and it worked great. Not this time obviously.
Binge listening to the podcast now, is the free cricket bar mentioned in episode 80 still available?

All I'm saying is that Jared's achilles was probably tweaked because of the extra trash he had to carry for Carl lol
Thanks Sam! But I only put stuff in Derek's pack. :) Don't worry though I'll be the slow one this year.
