Magical Houdini... whoops...Great job on tye FKT. After watching this I realized you really can not "plan" a FKT like this over 5 days like you would a 100 etc. Terrain and desire to push over a 5 day could be problematic just to sleep vs just being at a general area along the attempt. Your Mom and crew are awesome!

Yes! It’s so true. FKTs are wild and are a quick crash course in adaptability. Thank you for watching!

Never could get into FKT's but it is an amazing feat. I just don't enjoy pushing so hard, night hiking, or missing the small things, butterflies, watching leaves flutter, enjoying cloud shapes. I did the PCT in 97 days when I was in my fifties, a mere 27 miles a day average. Not fast but steady back then. PCT has been done in less than 60, I think. At 75 I don't think I'd try to do more than 20 these days :o)

So glad to see the first round! It was a great FKT! (1) Deodorant before the start? (2) Thanks for the extra nature shots! (3) Answered prayers! Looking forward to the rest!

Hey Adam! Sometimes the little things like deodorant or brushing your teeth in the middle of the night can make the difference between an enjoyable FKT and non so enjoyable FKT. Impressive nature can always make me stop in my tracks during a FKT/race. Especially mushrooms.

@@taratreks finding comfort and familiarity amidst the struggle...I can dig that. Also, just got my first Katadyn after my Sawyer dried out. Haven't gotten to use it yet, but looking forward to longer runs without haven't to loop back to my car!

Carry a small air horn, works really well with bears. The Smokies have a ton of bears. Glad you did so well the first day! Amazing! Looking forward to the rest of the videos! Thanks for sharing!

Sardines and avocado sandwich you are a gal after my own heart. That is the best way I can think of to cool your feet down. I'm kindly curious as to why you're doing this is it to stay in shape or to set a record or what? Nice brisk walk great way to enjoy the day. Have a great day and stay safe! PS oh yes thank you for the video. I suppose you can disregard that question since I finally read the title duh. I have one question about the bear did you bury your droppings and if he would have chased you he wouldn't catch up because he would have been sleeping and sliding if you catch my meaning.
