- Hey Everyone Beef here with another #reaction . We're starting #rwby volume 2 today.
#roosterteeth must've increased their animation budget because our background characters actually have models this time!
Just adding my voice to... Blake didn't leave the White Fang 5 years ago. 5 years ago was when the old leader stepped down and the new, more militaristic leader took power. Blake has been part of this military power structure up until a relatively short time ago.
Yeah, that was my mistake, I had thought she left when they started getting more extreme. That's totally on me, and I will correct it next video!

And the White Fang had changed from a very active and even militant political civil rights group [ like the MLK marchers, 1960s Freedom Riders, Black Panthers, BLM, Sein Fain, Stone Wall and PLO;] to a more active resistance, guerrilla and even active terrorist movement, [like Antifa, the IRA PROVOs, the UC, Weather Underground, Red Brigades, Bader-Meinhof, the Haganah, and Hezbollah.]

After season one, the biggest question in the fandoms collective mind was: who would win in a fight, RWBY of JNPR?
With no legit reason to have the two teams fight it out, the writers came up with the food fight to please the fandom. Picking 'foods' that resemble the actual weapons, use of semblance powers and all.
Don't worry about not catching everything. RWBY is full of references and everybody misses things the first time watching.
For example: remember in volume 1, Weiss mentioned "an entire traincart full of dust, stolen" while looking right at Blake. It's a clear callback to Blake's trailer but somehow also easy to miss.
Something that comes up later (not a spoiler) is the idea that Semblances can strengthen and evolve with use. The world of remnant on Aura mentioned this as well. Glynda looks to be mid 30's early 40's so if you assume her Semblance manifested when she was in her teens she's had 20-30 years to strengthen and develop it.
And yes, Ozpin is amazing. Favorite character hands down.
I will say this, Blake left the white fang only a short time before the start of the Beacon semester. That black trailer happened not long before the first episodes.
But the first episode of volume 2 has the single best food fight ever and in case you're wondering why the food is so durable remember Pyrrha said they all their weapons and tools are conduits for aura, so they're infusing aura into the food
One of the major differences to how you are experiencing this compared to how we experienced it on release is the "one watch only" approach. Season 1 episodes are so short that the community would all but go frame by frame looking for all the info we could in the week between each episode. Blake's bow twitches multiple times in reaction to noises, so the community largely suspected the cat ears, and we arrived at the conclusion that Penny was a robot almost immediately after her first appearance.
Ruby is not just super speed and what she caused was drag, and that drag was stronger than the magnetism Pyrrha applied.
Edit: to further explain when moving she pushes air away that creates the shockwave that hits after her and damages the wall.
The debris is pulled along by the negative pressure zone that moves behind her and that pull the debris in.
Thus making the depiction of her attack fairly accurate for fantasy powers.
It's not just semblance, it's physics!
Yeah, the physics of it do follow some logic, it's just the scale of what she did that is ridiculous since the speed it'd take to do that is just absurd. And the room was way too small, I'm pretty sure you'd have to get a longer runup to do something like that even spinning at extreme speeds and turning into a human fan like she did.

The reason why you have a line on a train station platform is not just a safe distance to prevent from being tossed on the rail.
It is also meant to prevent you from being pulled on the rails by the negative pressure behind the train.
Keep in mind trains move slower in city areas and when moving through stations yet they create a noticeable drag.
Ruby is faster than the usual train and she accelerates near instantly to her top speed disregarding additional dust and or crescent rose acceleration.
A closed room would also make the pressure difference much worse and far more lethal than an open space that allows the pressure to escape or air to be pulled into the negative pressure zone.

Then again, I haven't studied physics besides just what I learned in school and some random google searches out of curiosity, so you could be 100% right here, I'm not exactly confident in my knowledge of it, I just know a bit more than the average person.

Dude, same. I love the fact that he pauses and puts his hole train of thought of every single scene at most of the times and tries to find deep meanings in characters actions. Its so hard today to find some reacters so devoted to pass their experience like that

I love reactors like Beef because seeing them work stuff out and pause to talk so they dont end up talking over dialogue is the best
His reactions and analysis are full of so much personality but it doesn’t feel forced for the camera like some reaction channels. It feels natural
Just hope he gets a tad bit better with the editing... it is not detrimental, it just shows a bit that he is new...
a bit more practice with sound levels and lighting... all things that obviously will require a bit of experience and maybe a bit of investment but it can get better even without money for now...
It is important that we distinguish the difference here:
Glynda was not using dust OR magic. That was her semblance, and only her semblance. She really is just that strong.
Furthermore, Aura and all it’s intricacies are always complete hogwash, so it’s best you start getting used to it. It was initailly put in as a way of allowing the show to have an excuse for the characters feats of strength and endurance, as well as some nitpicks such as “Why is the bread stale enough that it could be used as a weapon? Oh that’s because they channeled aura through it to prevent it from breaking, its actually not stale at all!”
Or even “How did Yang survive the fall after Nora hit her up into the sky? That was enough time to hit Terminal Velocity!” Followed by the simple answer “Aura”
Bender's(Futurama) couldn't bend week old bread without his arms falling off, a running gag of how hard old bread is😂.
How is it hogwash when it's part of aura's specific abilities though? Like, yeah, aura is why they and their weapons are superhumanly durable. They took, like a whole episode to explain that in season 1 and a world of remnant.
Also, as an aside, termInal velocity isn't *that* big a deal; particularly in this world. It's about 200kph. Lethal to normal people for sure, though people have been known to survive it in extremely rare situations) but the fact that they were shattering concrete throughout the fight means they were all absolutely taking much harder hits than that.
@@Cyrinil142 This is a completely different world, and physics act differently. Characters hover in mid-air and change direction. Other spoiler related clues point to this. Another reason I revile the thought of a DC comics cross over - the physics SHOULDN'T mesh for both groups.

People do that in DC as well depending on the source. Teen Titans comes to mind. It's mostly a convention of the animation and choreography style. Much like the anime genre it's based on, they play around with ramping the speed of the camera up and down. Monty's choreography respects weight and gravity a lot more than half of the Batman fight scenes I've ever seen.
But even so, aside from a certain fight or two in V4, the only totally nonsense physics I can recall off the top of my head is that Blake ran directly up a pillar in V1C8 and the nonsense that Ruby managed to pull off in the food fight. Every other time appears to be things that have reasons. Blake's semblance (which appears to allow her to change direction mid-air) Ruby and Yang's recoil, glyphs, etc.
There's a lot of good reasons to hate the idea of a DC/RWBY crossover. I'm not sure this is one of them though.

I'm so glad that someone else immediately expects Ironwood to be the bad guy. My reaction was exactly the same and sometimes it feels like I was completely alone with it.
Because he's a good guy, but he's also a general. He's supposed to be like he is(military minded and bullheaded), at least from the standpoint of Americans and fictional stereotypes. Can't really speak for other countries. Most of the audience is American, so most people from there, that I've seen anyway, were like "Yep he's a general of the world's largest military alright."
Lots of people have the initial reaction of "he is a bad guy" or "something is off about him, I don't trust him"

Well, he did just park a fleet and an army inside of another country's capital. That alone is reason for concern for me, it immediately brought to mind Napoleon's conquest of Spain the first time I watched it: It started with both France and Spain invading Portugal (Napoleon had asked the Spanish permission to let him march his armies through their country to reach Portugal) and then France took advantage of that to betray Spain and ocupy its territories. There is a reason why you just don't let another country's army intervene in your territory.
Blake has attained sister status, and Weiss is just Weiss.
Also also, "android" means a robot made to look like a human _male_ (hence the "andr-" part of the word). Penny is a gynoid.

As for Glinda's semblance, did you notice she fixed the pillar Weiss broke with her body? She not only put things back, she fused broken stone/concrete back together!

Just letting you know that Ruby's super speed isn't *just* super speed, so yes, the feat she performed here actually makes sense

It was not 5 years ago though... the trailers happened a couple of months if not weeks before the show started... and right now we are in the second semester of the first year... I think... i might be wrong... but that did not look like an 11 year old blake in the train...
I love how much worldbuilding they squeezed into that Risk-like game the girls are playing. 4 kingdoms with very different themes and abilities, fighting each other, but the board is covered in Grimm miniatures, and cards that use them ensure that they are a risk to both sides. I too would love to play a real version of it.
Ironwood enters the scene

You've finished what there is of RWBY at this point, so you should know just how much I loved that being your first impression of him.
Ironwood is amazing.
Blake didn't leave the White Fang 5 years ago, that's when leadership changed. She still took part in the White Fang until recently at the end of the Black trailer when she left. It's only been a few months since she left the White Fang.
So the scene in the bookstore that kicked off the volume, Emerald and Mercury are playing a little word game with the bookseller. Emerald lists three books, and then later asks Tukson three questions, where the answers are in the book titles.
"Do you have any copies of 'The Thief and the Butcher'?" then later: "So, you know who we are, don't you?" I.E. a Thief and a Butcher.
"How about 'Violence Garden', in paperback?" then later: "And, you know why we're here?" I.E. Violence
"Oh, I know! How about 'The Third Crusade'?" (a book about a fight, that doesn't exist). Then later: "And are you going to fight back?" I.E. There won't even be a fight.
Glynda can use dust with her Semblance, though she didn't use any there to repair the dining hall. In episode 1 when she created the hailstorm to attack Torchwick's plane, that was her using her Semblance to move dust to the right spot and mix it to create those razor sharp icicles.
I love when we (FNDM) convince a RWBY reactor that Penny's not a robot lmao. It's tradition at this point :D
These videos are 100% my favorite rwby reactions so far especially the ost reaction.
The ending songs are character themes. Each character has a musical theme, and some character pairings even get songs for the ship. The lyrics/stories the songs tell are generally canon too, with a few exceptions.
The comic Jaune is reading is X-ray & Vav, another animated show by Rooster Teeth. Anytime you see a comic in anything RWBY it is a Rooster Teeth show.

The funny thing with the backpack is it literally didn't exist until the exact scene it opens for the swords. Like, you can go back just a few seconds to the last shot with Penny and it's just straight up not there.
Best food fight ever!!! Anyway, I never said anything about it before when you said that you don't respond because you're shy, but I knew you would eventually open up. The RWBY community does that to people. And I do feel they can be pretty savage when it comes to deflecting spot on guesses and potential spoilers. Most of us are here for the raw reactions to the twists and turns.

Glynda's semblance is called "telekinesis" but it's really more of a matter/energy manipulation ability.

@@Spikeba11 when she turned Cinder's molten sand attack into glass and flung it back at her and when she manipulated atmospheric pressure to create a storm front then caused it to release lightning which she directed at Cinder and Roman's airship. And any time we see her change the kinetic potential energy in an object or the flow of momentum in an object. When she unbreaks things that requires delicate molecule manipulation and at that scale matter and energy are two sides of the same coin, that's why I typed it as "matter/energy".
@@SCP.343 What she did with Cinder´s attack still confuses me, but I´m pretty sure the ice storm was just dust. (I think you can see her throw something, probably a dust crystal, before the storm breaks out.)

2. Also, according to Sword Art Online Abridged (DEFINITELY worth watching because they made the main character an absolute jerk and it’s HILARIOUS, and it’s by Something Witty Entertainment) the female version of a cock blocker would be a clam jammer

Lol, I instantly thought of clam jammer when he said cock blocker, and Sao:a introduced me to that term. That series is brilliant and should be named Remastered instead of Abridged. It is so much better than the original.

Someone made a fan based team called SLVR(silver) and made trailers like the OG RWBY trailers , its entertaining to watch and you can see the growth in animation.
Also Team DARK from Raxacory and Team KRMZ from Croatian Lizard.
I fully agree with all of these fan animations! They're so awesome :D
"Are they having fun or are they going for the kill" they're at a school where training for combat is a central priority. They are 100% having fun, but they also have crazy strong abilities and know how to avoid actual injuries... which, when Yang can go through the roof and back uninjured, is actually not very hard.
Ruby's "Nah!" to Weiss when she suggested Neptune go with her is such an underated moment.
You can so clearly see Ruby instantly cluing in on what Weiss was trying to do, laughing at her because of it and just making fun of it while taking her away. In my opinion it's actually a pretty big characterization moment for her since it both shows that she isn't QUITE as innocent as she looks, and is one of the most clear examples of how quick minded and intuitive she is, one of her biggest qualities in combat.
Not to mention absolutely hilarious.

Penny is my favorite character (followed closely by Nora). There are those (including me) who ship Penny and Ruby. And their ship name is Nuts and dolts cute.

Rooster Teeth are such trolls. While we were waiting for Vol 2 to air they posted a preview of Ruby holding Weiss saying, "don't leave me, no!!!" but they had not added the food for the food fight. The fandom was freaking out like omg Weiss is gonna die?!?! So when the episode aired it was a good laugh.

Yay for Volume 2! Since you asked, I think the show audio could be upped just a little bit. Since you pause so much to speak your thoughts as compared to speaking over the show itself it doesn't affect us hearing it but I just found myself noticing the difference in volume of the audio. Either way, loving the reactions as usual. Can't wait for your next upload!
As a previous comment said, Glynda’s semblance is the only thing used. Most semblances work that way, without any use of dust necessary.
Also, these new outfits (that they only ever wear once for some reason) are their “spy gear”.

The Black Trailer happened. Then Weiss' argument with Blake in Vol 1 mentioning that a Train Car full of Dust stolen (the black trailer) then this talk in vol 2 ep 2. There has only been about 6 months between the Black Trailer and this talk about people not knowing the White Fang like she does. (Not 5 years. 5 years ago the old leader stepped down. More on that later)
Many of us that have been following the show since the beginning have told new reactors there is 2 ways to watch RWBY. Either at its face value or play Mystery Theater with the show. Almost everything in most scenes is giving bread crumbs into who people are based on, lore of the past, foreshadowing, easter egg nods to other RoosterTeeth shows, etc. A lot of us recommended that new reactors watch the show with the captions on so they don't miss any of the dialogue. But to also pay attention to stuff around the characters as well.
Each of main characters has clues to their stories sprinkled into every volume.
And every character in the show has a primary based upon and can have 1 or more secondary based upons also. The Red, White, Black and Yellow trailers are cannon to the series. As are all future trailers
Penny is our sweet cinnamon roll and I love her. And Ruby's reaction to Penny in the next chapter is why Ruby is best girl, our simple soul.

Easter Egg: the vending machines read "People Like Grapes" which is a very random quote from Gavin Free uttered on the Rooster Teeth podcast years ago....Gavin is famous for these non-sequiturs and they stuck it in RWBY2 for fun.
Fun fact, Ren was originally animated using oversized cucumbers....that looked a little too phallic when fully animated, so Monty changed them to leeks.
So, fun fact, I dunno if you've played Persona 4, but RWBY was actually included in a crossover fighting game between RWBY, P4, BlazBlue, and a 4th franchise who's name unfortunately escapes me.
Ruby has an interaction with a character from Persona 4(Adachi) when they're on the same team that references her line at the beginning of the food fight that goes like:
Ruby: Justice Will Be Swift!
Adachi: Justice will be painful.
Ruby: It will be delicious!!!
Adachi: **Sarcastic as fuck and slow clapping** Oh yay...
It's genuinely one of the simplest and yet one of the funniest interactions in the game.
Point of reference - Blake hasn't been out of the White Fang for 5 years; she's been out for maybe 5 months, give or take. Going by the anime adaptation that released last summer (RWBY: Ice Queendom), Blake literally received her acceptance to Beacon shortly after the Black trailer, which was when she finally left the White Fang for good. So yes - she does have quite the perspective on how the White Fang currently operates.
YES this was such a good bunch of episodes, and it's always great to watch your reaction bc of the quality commentary, both in regards to the story and the production - i had no idea about the vector thing! You know your stuff!

Also as many people have commented already and if you have already figured it out Penny is based of Pinocchio, so she hiccups when she lies instead of a body part growing, because let’s be honest…that would be fucking weird.

1st, aura, semblance, and dust. Aura is like an energy source, if magic existed properly in this world, aura would be the chars MP and mana shield would be it's primary purpose.
Semblance comes later, usually, and is like an X-Men superpower. And much like X-Men, the semblance can grow and level up. Ruby won the battle because she unlocked the next aspect of her superspeed; instead of going fast and leaving rose petals behind, she BECOMES rose petals and goes even faster. And this won't be the final evolution. Using the MP idea, people can use their semblance, at the cost of aura, basically trading defense for a bit of offence. "Mage" hunters/huntress's like Glenda and Weiss tend to be much more frail because they use their semblance so much.
Finally, if Aura is MP, dust is not quite but similar to a mana flask. It can AUGMENT a semblance, but is not mandatory. For example, if Blake were to hold a fire dust crystal, she could leave afterimages that explode.
2: Ironwood isn't evil, he's just extremely high strung, has a stick somewhere unpleasant, and prone to fits of paranoia. He is one of Ozpin's greatest allies, and will remain so unless Atlas becomes threatened. Since Ozpin is the opposite of an imperialist, that isn't ever going to be an issue.

The conduit for aura explanation is used for a lot of the power scaling in this show. If a novice student were to swing a sword at a giant grim it probably doesn't do much, but if an elite badass huntsman picks up the same sword he could possibly cut it clean in half. That's due to his greater quantity and superior control of his aura. Actually reminds me of World Trigger now that I lay it out like this.

Cinder had a face at the end of Season 1, she, Emerald, and Mercury showed up at the end-credits scene.
The song that sounded so familiar to you was the song they played on the end credits of season 1. The song is called "Wings".
Luckily for Weiss it was Swordfish Saturday in the cafeteria.

There seems to be some confusion. Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury are not White Fang, nor are they faunus. Thus far, every White Fang member you've seen in the show proper has worn that same uniform.
So, in the trailer reaction you said "She's our rogue!" in reference to Weiss, which is of course entirely wrong. But, I've put (probably far too) much thought into what class the RWBY characters are, and I'd like to share them. I'm using D&D, but I'm not super familiar with like subclasses and stuff, so feel free to add suggestions or corrections!
Ruby: Ranger. She's really fast and has sniper rifle. Ranger fits more than Fighter imo.
Weiss: Some magic class. It's a little hard to pinpoint, but my gut says Wizard, as she's kind of a glass cannon.
Blake: Rogue. Probably Arcane Trickster subclass with her afterimage thing, but like I said I don't know much about subclasses.
Yang: Monk. But like a STR build instead of DEX.
Jaune: Paladin. He has a lot of aura, making him a tank. Also, other things that are spoilers.
Pyrrha: Fighter. I feel like this one is obvious.
Nora: Barbarian. Again, pretty obvious.
Ren: Rogue, but likely a different subclass from Blake.
Sun: Monk, but an actual DEX build this time.
Neptune hasn't done any fighting yet, but he's a little tricky. I'd say maybe Fighter.
That's all I've got so far. A lot of the other characters are really hard, as their techniques don't really fit D&D. Suggestions welcome!
Well, Weiss would be a Bladesinger Wizard and I think Blake might fit better with an Echo Knight Fighter. As for Yang... well, there is a rather well known homebrew class named Pugilist which is basically a Strength based unarmed fighter that is pretty much Yang in a nutshell from her fighting style to her semblance. The only thing missing would be the shotgun gauntlets and that is easy enough to get by reflavoring other things.
I love how the food fight is actually a really good scene to compare the skills of each member of teams RWBY and JNPR. It shows pretty clearly which ones are the powerhouses of the group, with Pyrrha and Nora mostly overwealming every member of RWBY, while Ren had trouble keeping up with them. And out of RWBY, Yang and Weiss are the ones who overall performed best, while Ruby was the one who made the best use of the right openings and got the flashiest move.
Oh... and Jaune!

Five years ago was when the White Fang went terrorist, Blake only left them a short while before she came to Beacon.

I gotta be honest, that scene in the library is probably my favorite scene in all of RWBY. Just the squad hanging out, having witty banter. I honestly could watch a whole season of that.

Also, my going theory regarding Third Crusade is that it's a militant pro-faunus political piece. Let's work backwards -- if there's a 'third crusade', there had to be a 2nd and 1st crusade, right? From the perspective of a faunus rights advocate, the Great War and subsequent Faunus War / Faunus Revolution certainly fit the bill. What, then, can we infer this third crusade to be? Most certainly, a further expansion of faunus rights and possibly the founding of an entire independent faunus kingdom.
It's never confirmed or denied in the show, but that's my line of thinking on the subject.
EDIT: Blake didn't leave the WF five years ago. The exact timeframe isn't clear, but it's likely no more than a month or two in-story between the Black Trailer and the start of Vol 1.
Ruby just flung everything to the far end of the Hall away from her, everyone else was already down, where did the plates flying at Glinda come from? Headcannon: Glinda flung them at herself for emphasis/dramatic effect.
You mentioned feeling like it matched well with Fullmetal Alchemist and Avatar and I have to agree, those were the exact two names that popped on my mind too.
It's similar to Fullmetal in how genuine and realistic the character interactions feel, something I'd say is a stand out of both of these series.
As for Avatar, it's harder to pinpoint it but the similarity probably comes from them both being anime inspired western series.

In the run up to Volume 2 they used the shot of Ruby holding Weiss from the food fight in one of the trailers, but they turned off all the food in the render, so it looked like a real tragic character death. We got trolled pretty good.
Must admit when you go off about being smug about being right about storytelling, and are actually wrong, it is kinda funny. I am enjoying the reactions, really looking forward to some specific future ones.
You mentioned wondering if you clicked on the wrong show. There's an anime called Wotokoi where an episode starts out in a different scenario with a different art style, and they actually put a message on screen reassuring the audience that they were watching the right show.

Note that Ironwood runs "a" military, not "the" military - he is the military leader and academy headmaster of the country of Atlas, visiting Vale for the festival, and he has brought several ships of his own country's (mostly robot) troops with him. But he does seem to have a close connection with Ozpin, and they both know about the information sent by Qrow, so something interesting is going on here...
Volume 2 Weiss is the absolute best. Truly chaotic energy wrapped neatly.
On another note. I don't know if this classifies as a potential spoiler or not. But that game that they played... Just remember it. If you are paying attention you'll understand why when the time comes.

but ironwood's semblance is very important and helps put a lot of things about him in perspective
i'll add a couple more lines so that (hopefully) if you don't want to know it will be hidden

okay, so according to the creators his semblance is called "mettle"
you can tell when he activates it because his eyes become dull
and when he chooses to activate his semblance, ironwood essentially gets rid of his ability to care about anything that would stand in the way of his goals
that includes his friends, his citizens, his own pain, logic and reason...
you ask who could prepare you for seeing your friends die on the battlefield
well, ironwood couldn't do that, but he could use his semblance to not feel anything when he watches his own friends die on the battlefield
the thing is, ironwood... he's kind of arrogant and broken from years as a military man
he thinks he's always right, he has a myriad of mental health issues, he always needs to be in control, and he hates having to wrestle with emotions
none of that has to do with his semblance, and it's all in place even during volume 2
and i'm sure you can imagine what someone that has all that going on in their head could do with a semblance that allows them to ignore minor and major inconveniences
also, rwby is a show where therapists do not exist, so... dude isn't going to be getting the help he clearly needs.
