Haha that last clip "if you cant see your sewing machine, then you're doing it right!"... yep that gives me nightmares about mountain of organza I was working with last year! I sort of want to make a petticoat, but then I keep thinking it's sooo much effort for something that is not seen, but alas it does give an awesome effect under dresses and skirts!
@@KirileeCosplay I would also love examples of what it looks like with a petticoat but no hoop, so we can see how much is really added by the petticoat itself
Yeeeeees~ this is what is so often forgotten when we make gowns for cosplay. Hoop? Check. Gown? Check. And then you see the hoops through the skirt. Eeeeeek q w q Thank you so much!
Thanks for the tutorial! I love it so much! Although I have a suggestion when sewing the ruffles, maybe you can leave one seam of the skirt base unsewn so it can be layed flat then you sew a really long ruffle then you sew the said ruffle onto the skirt base. Best to mark the layer placements so it can be even. Other than that, I love your tutorials! They have helped me so much when making my costumes and many more costumes to come.
You might consider a quilting ruler and rotary cutter for cutting long straight cuts next time. It helps speed up cutting straight lengths significantly.
I just realized after looking through my cosplan gallery that your tiered petticoat, it kinda resembles the skirt of Scarlett O’Hara’s White Ruffle Gown from Gone With The Wind. Im gonna make this dress possibly next year and use your tutorial for a reference for constructing the huge skirt.
It really depends what you are going for. A fabric one will be lighter and easier to cover hoops, but a tulle one dies give more of a dreamy look and can poof more.
Hoh, absolutely lovely. So much work, if I were to make one/ask my Mom to make me one I'd probably leave off the trim! I could always add it on at some point later if I decided I *really* wanted it xD
Kirilee Cosplay Awesome! Thank you for making the instructions so clear in your videos, I’m a complete beginner and the way you explain things makes it seem like even big projects aren’t so scary!
I would honestly draft a lining to go over the hoops you have first, make it a little bit bigger than the hoops themselves. The reason why I say this is because a full circle skirt is still going to be too big and it will be extra bulk and weight
I want to make a version of this to wear as a skirt; do you think it would be okay to make this as a plain A line or circle skirt base without a crinoline for that purpose?
@@KirileeCosplay thank you! I was so tempted by the crinoline, but I'm definitely going to wear the skirt to work and I get up and sit down far too many times and walk through too many small spaces to be able to pull off the crinoline 😂
The petticoat looks amazing! I want to make one in a similar style for a double circle skirt. Do you think a half circle skirt will be enough, or better to go with full circle?
It depends what you want the effect to be. This effect can work on a half circle skirt, but obviously you’ll have more volume (and weight though) with a full circle skirt
@@KirileeCosplay thanks for the reply! I was worried that the half circle might not do much and drown under the weight of the double circle medium cotton skirt, and that the full circle one might make the entire skirt more heavy (I was planning on making a summer petticoat). Which one would be closest to the one you made in the video?
Bwhahahahaha ! if you cant see your machine or you feel like you are drowning in ruffles you are doing it right ^_^ . thank you for the laugh and simple easy to follow tutorial . I dont feel as intimidated at doing a petticoat as my pattern with a petticoat I bought was useless !
I've just helped with a theatre production and the dancers had hooping under their skirts... but would have benefits from this since the bands showed through and looked awful (imo) .....lazy lady gathering!! Mexican wave!! \o/
I love a video with a good materials list in the description. You are appreciated.
You are welcome

Ah yes but think- what if the dress flies up as you twirl around like all princesses should. You’ll see it then!
@@KirileeCosplay Yes very true!!!
I loved this video, any chance we could get a comparison of how a skirt looks with different types of petticoats?
That’s a good idea! Let me add it to potential video ideas! Thanks

Agreed! Can be a pain to make as it is extra and you have to make it before you make the cosplay (usually), but it makes all the difference
I am planning a ball gown cosplay and this is exactly what I needed!! thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much for the lovely comment ^_^ glad it could help
I don’t want it as a petticoat, i want my skirt to look like this 😍
Then make it so :)

Thank you for the suggestion. This is the method I use because I find it comfortable for me to use. You can of course use which ever method you like
after much searching I finally found this petticoat formula on your channel..thank you so much..🥰 ❤ love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩💚❤
I am so glad it was helpful for you!
please know that you are an absolute lifesaver, and a beautiful seamstress
Why thank you so much! I hope this could help you!
Kirilee Cosplay i've been watching all of your videos, and i'm obsessed! it is very much helpful! ♥️
i think its so cool that you teach basic, but important sewing stuff in your channel. it can help a lot of people! thanks for it.
Thank you so much for those kind words!

Oh yes! I know which one you mean. I do love that one. Give it a go!
You make sewing seem so easy, love your tutorial, hope someday I can make one
You can do it!
Question Kirilee, when would you want a tulle petticoat vs a fabric one?
It really depends what you are going for. A fabric one will be lighter and easier to cover hoops, but a tulle one dies give more of a dreamy look and can poof more.

Indeed!
Glad for this tutorial🙏🙏🙏 i want to make a few petticoats for some cosplays so ill follow it!It was quite easier than i expected
Oh that is exciting! I’m happy that this could help!
Could one make the ruffles out of tulle? I'm assuming that would require a longer base. Kinda like fusing the tea petticoat and this one into one?
Yes, that would also work well ^_^

Excellent job and great tutorial Kirilee! Beautiful and good instruction.
Thank you very much ^_^
Would I be able to make this without a petticoat and of cotton? This is perfect
This is the petticoat.
Do you mean the crinoline?
@@KirileeCosplay yes 😭 could I make this a skirt? I’m new to all the terms
This will be perfect for the ball gown I have planned to make in 2021.
Awesome! Good luck
thank you so much for this I was making a rode quartz costume for my friend and this is going to be so useful thank you 😍♥️♥️
That will be so cool! Yes, you could certainly adapt this for rose quartz!
Kirilee Cosplay I'm so excited to do it I've never done anything like it before. I'll tag you in Instagram when the dress is finished 😆
Please do! I would love to see!
Lovely♥️ what does it look like with a dress over it?
Look at my Magikarp dress :)
This was a great video. Would the ruffles suit a lettuce hem?
Absolutely! Plus it would add a bit more floof!
Thank goodness, I have the exact same pattern for this a line skirt :D
Awesome!
Very nice
Thanks!
If our crinoline/hoop skirt is a bit big for an A-line shape, would a circle skirt base work?
I would honestly draft a lining to go over the hoops you have first, make it a little bit bigger than the hoops themselves.
The reason why I say this is because a full circle skirt is still going to be too big and it will be extra bulk and weight

7:10 Good video! I absolutely love the amount of hard work that you put towards your content. Thumbs up 👍
Thank you
Sorry, for the crinoline, how many meters of boning did you use?
I can’t remember off the top of my head but it is in the crinoline tutorial. Please check that out.
Kirilee Cosplay thanks!
I want to make a version of this to wear as a skirt; do you think it would be okay to make this as a plain A line or circle skirt base without a crinoline for that purpose?
Absolutely- it just won’t be as full.
It will still look cute though

And then you can make that pink Kaylee Frye dress from Firefly! 😍
It is the same principle yes :)

Probably a half
@@KirileeCosplay alright, thank you lots!
I have bought the sharp Tull not the soft one... is it suitable??? Or it will give me another results?!
The more rigid the tulle, the more volume it will have so yes it will work

do you know how much yards of polyester you used for this?
About 7 yards
could you make this with tulle? like would it work or just be weird? also i love your videos:)
Absolutely you can make it out of tulle
what is the fabric you use for this
Any sort of non stretch fabric is good. I used poplin because it was cheap and light but held a good shape
@@KirileeCosplay would Lawn cotton fabric work for this it is Very Lightweight i read it some where
I have actually tried this before except it was on a smaller scale and for more of a doll but I did it alot differently
Ah cool! How did you do it differently?
@@KirileeCosplay I basically made a circle skirt and pleated some fabric and sewed it onto the skirt it didn't look to bad
Nice!
Why did not u keep all the layers to floor length??
This way hides the hoops better and gives a smoother finish with the layers over the top. Plus less fabric used.
Where's the link?
What link?
Petticoat is something of a trigger word for me
I dunno why I think it sounds nice
…. Okay?
