Here are some of the best wines I tasted in 2024, not in any particular order: 1999 Comte George de Vogue Bonnes Mares; 1996 Chateau Margaux; 1998 Chateau Haut-Brion; 2014 Domaine Dujac Echezeau; 1989 Chateau Lynch Bages; 2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. George Les St. Georges; 2009 Chateau Pavie; 2010 Domaine Dujac Vosne Romanee Aux Malconsorts; 2009 Chateau Ponte Canet; 2009 Domaine George Roumier Moret St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere. Love your list, and agree Cuvée Louise is a great hidden gem.
Great selection so far. Very much looking forward to the top 10! My wines of the year (no particular order): Drouhin Montrachet Grand Cru 2019 Terlaner Primo 2019 Pichon Comtesse 1982 Jaboulet La Chapelle 1990 Montrose 1989 Vega Sicilia Unico 1970 Janasse VV 2007 Chateau Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse 1990 Sassicaia 1997
Thanks very much! I'm a big fan of your list! In fact there is one that is on your list that is on my top 10 as well! Certainly some others would be as well if I tasted them last year. It is always a treat to taste Unico with decades of age!
Happy holidays to your Mr. Attorney Somm! My favorite wine of 2024 was the wine for my birthday celebration which was a 2013 Heitz Martha's Vineyard. A lovey wine. Honarable mentions go to a 2013 Plumpjack Estate Cabernet, a 2011 Corton Grand Cru Burgundy, and a Dow 2003 Vintage port. Cheers to your future 2025 wine experiences and TH-cam videos!!
They have to be much more precise these days, especially for the bottles sent to the US. In fact, many producers wait to label the bottles sent to the US until they get the labels approved to make sure they don't have any issues.
1978 Chateau Latour, 2000 Monfortino, 1997 Roumier Bonnes Mares are the top wines for the year. Other top wines are 96 Rousseau Beze, 96 Mascarello Ca d’Morissio, 90 Angelus, 97 Chave Hermitage, 97 Chateau Margaux, 07 Drouhin Musigny, 07 Vogue Musigny.
Last year 1998 La Turque was a top 5. This year 2000 Trotanoy is slightly ahead as my WOTY. Edging 92 Dominus and a 98 VCC. I had a case of 09 PC, a monumental bottle. I crack one every 3 years or so... thanks for the great reviews....
Impressive selection! Your top 11-25 list not only highlights some of the finest wines in the world but also reflects your impeccable taste and discerning palate. I haven’t yet reflected on my 2024 wines to pinpoint which ones left the most lasting impression, but 2023 was undoubtedly a year of exceptional bottles and tastings. Highlights included Comtesse de Lalande, Malartic-Lagravière, LaGrange, Ségla, Château Gloria, Beychevelle, Giscours, Haut Bailly, Chevalier, Talbot, Clerc Milon, Pio Cesare, Oddero… remarkable Burgundies from the likes of Patriarche, Champy, Pommard, Hospices de Beaune, and Drouhin, as well as outstanding Northern and Southern Rhône wines from Vernay, Voge, Delas, Faury, Guigal, Janasse, Jaboulet, and Beaucastel, among many others. Truly unforgettable! For Christmas Eve dinner, I will probably open either a Domaine Faiveley NSG or a Pomerol or St-Emilion - TBD - so let’s see if that will be included in my best of 2024. Writing this comment at Starbucks drive-thru - long line!😂 Cheers and Merry Christmas, John!🥂🍷✨🎄
Thanks very much, Margaux! Appreciate you sharing some of your favorites! Certainly a number of my favorite producers on your list as well! Cheers to you and Merry Christmas as well! Hope you enjoy the top 10 when it is unveiled!
As always, I really enjoy your post. I agree with so many of your tasting notes and accolades. Perhaps, the title should have been “the bucket list French Top 25 if you are willing to mortgage your house”. 😝😝
@@cryptopjoking6643 Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Some pricey wines for sure (thanks to the tasting group) and turned out to be French centric so far.
When you say that during the harvest the growers picked only the best fruit, could you perhaps elaborate more about what the best fruit is. I’m trying to deepen my understanding.
Great question. Typically there is a severe selection in Bordeaux now. Only 1/3 to 1/2 of the harvest goes into the top wine. Fruit from young vines and that which is not in the best vineyard plots or which produces wine not suitable for the top wine after tasting tests goes into the second or third wines or is sold off. So the top wines are now better quality and produced in lower volumes. Often half of what was produced 20-30 years ago.
Hola John !!! Hey, when are you coming to Monterrey to have a wine with my group ? just 1.15 hours from DFW ! I really dont have such a list like you do since I dont drink that much wine, maybe 70-80 bottles a year. Definitely in my short list the wines that I drank this year, my top 5 are : Chateau Leoville Poyferre 18, Domaine De Chevallier 2018, Petrolo Galatrona 2011, Maybach Materium 2019, and The Bard 2018. Yes, most of the wines are very very young, but I wanted to try them to see what was going on with them. My bday is next month and I plan to do a tasting that will include extremely unique wines that are almost imposible to buy or find ( for example the wine from the country Iran ). Have a great Christmas !
@@wren460 Hello my friend! Definitely hope to visit at some point! I would enjoy that! Thanks for sharing your favorites! Some outstanding wines for sure! Merry Christmas!
In my wine goals video, I mention how tasting groups can allow people to taste a large number of wines they couldn’t afford themselves. If you get 6-8 people together and each contribute one wine or pay a pro rata share, that makes it much easier to try them. That is how I taste most of these wines.
I despise dry french wines Camus Camus Camus especially Meiomi Pinot & Cab Sauv, Conundrum, Bonanza, (Silver Sage Winery Bc) White Gerverts, Belle Gloss Pinot...the Wagner family in my view makes some of the best wines ever tasted. But to each their own
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The only good wine is the wine you like. Tastes vary wildly from person to person. The wines you mention are certainly big sellers and popular with many consumers.
Wow, that is a list of some truly awful wines, but eye of the beholder they say and as long it works for you then who cares. It is Caymus and Belle Glos btw…
@@AttorneySomm You were 😂 You were also right that commercially they are popular. My wife used to like those wines as well and after some time drinking some quality French and Spanish wines she can’t drink them anymore. Too much fruit and sweetness (mega purple?). I love that on the Margaux they state the alcohol content as "11-14%"! They really couldn't care less...

What is your opinion on mouton 1983 🤔
@@janleth2800 In my view it’s a weak vintage for Mouton. Other than the Margaux appellation, the left bank struggled in 83.

@ so, it’s more about the maturity of the vines or the preferred section of the vineyard, as opposed to the shape and form of the fruit??
@ Yes, that is probably fair. Often the best fruit is very small and concentrated.
