    You sound awesome Marti. Thank you so much for the review. Glad to see how it actually looks on someone because I can not find instrument measurements like the body size length and width from anyone. If you have those I sure would appreciate a reply. Thanks.

    Thank you for your review! After watching this I am skeptical about the tuning issues. I play the violin. Do you think the fretless version would work better or you still recommend the fretted one despite these problems? It looks nice,, portable, interesting instrument. Thank you

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Actually I suspect a set of roundwound strings would greatly improve the intonation. They are an expensive investment (77€) but they say there's no way back to rubber strings. One day I buy a set and I'll do a video comparing them.

    Hey thanks ! Do you have any opinion on the Thomann Fretless Bass Ukulele ? It's the 398 euros one. I can't decide between this and a fretless exotic kala... But I cant find anything about the thomann.

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hii! I've not tried yet any fretless ukelele. Personally I see risky a fretless of that little scale. But the high end Thomann branded ukes, made in Europe, seem really really nice. Only the resale value might be better on a Kala. But I'd give a chance to the Thomann one/s. Thanks for commenting.

    Can it be heard when played together with an nylon-stringed guitar?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comment. The volume of all ubasses is very weak to use in a real acoustic situation. I guess with just one nylon guitar it would be perfectly audible, but never at the same volume. A good idea for that use would be using a mini amp like the Blackstar.

    Dude i have a question about this u bass, how should it be on a rock band ? Will it get totally lost on the mix or not?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well... Imagine yourself playing in palm mute all the time but with some more sustain. It lacks definition but it might work in some songs. Then, aesthetically might be something curious in a live gig. Not a bass to use all the time but there are many contexts where it works and surprises. Somewhere, some still think of me as 'that guy who brought that tiny bass'.

  • @petatap3737
    @petatap3737 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought it, but the A-string makes rumors from the third to the fifth fret. So sad ... I'm going to send it back (return). Would you recommend the fretless version?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a pity. You know CQ is one of the reasons these instruments are cheap. Have you tried modding the neck curve? Maybe one fret needs addressing. I personally wouldn't go for a fretless because I imagine it must have very little sustain. I would give your ubass a chance. Almost any HBenton needs a visit to the luthier, but once well set up it can be a joy to play. I'm thinking of buying again the Pj74. It had some flaws but the strengths were incredible.

    • @petatap3737
      @petatap3737 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried to change the neck curve. perhaps it's a bit better now. have the impression that the problem (third to fifth fret, A-string) is still notable. I'll continue practicing ...

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pe tatap so maybe the best is ask for a another one. As long as it is a hit or miss, probably next one will be 100% usable without spending money in a luthier.

    is it possible to adjust truss rod?

    • @BassAdvisor

      Yes. It hasn't been necessary so far but it is possible.

    looks like a slightly longer scale than a kala.. can anyone confirm ?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. It's longer. After trying a kala like scale ubass, i find this Kahuna more comfortable.

      nicolaxp thanks for commenting. I can't share an Instagram post but if you go to sanmartibasses on IG, there is a post of the 15th of May 2017. It is the acoustic sound. Of course not enough to play with others but it is good for home use or even recoding with a microphone.

    What is the scale on this?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 21' if I'm not wrong. I'm using it live this summer in some songs and people can't believe how something this small can sound like that.

    Is there any way to stop the string rattle?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Filip Wysocki indeed there is. Something pressing it down before the nut, like a tight rope, works.

    • @niewiemniemampomysu163
      @niewiemniemampomysu163 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martí Sanmartí okay, thanks

    • @niewiemniemampomysu163
      @niewiemniemampomysu163 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martí Sanmartí maybe swapping the strings for better ones would help? Just curious because I really want to get this ubass but the string rattle is a big con for me

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Filip Wysocki You know quality in these instruments is a bit uneven. Probably in yours you won't have this problem (or you have a different one). Even though it is very usable if you play the 4th carefully. I think it's worth the risk. In general they are very decent instruments. Perfectly usable in live gigs and of course in rehearsals. I guess the definitive solution is what many electric basses have to press the string down (this kind of ring).

      Martí Sanmartí alright, thanks a lot for the feedback

    Can you put regular string on it?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Skullcrusher Pine hello, it's not possible because of the ultra short scale. But there are rubber strings with metal wounding and they supposedly sound a bit more like an electric bass.

    • @skullcrusherpine3307
      @skullcrusherpine3307 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, good to know. One more question, i would like to get this as a cheap instrument to play while on the road with my band. Do you think it would be playable in a vehicle? Because it seems bigger than a normal uke bass. It looks about the size of an acoutic bass.

    • @skullcrusherpine3307
      @skullcrusherpine3307 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and how does it sound acouticly anyways?

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skullcrusher Pine it sounds pretty nice. Of course it's not usable to play with other musicians (you'd sound very weak) but it's more than enough to play on your own even in slightly noisy environments. About your next question, it's perfect to play in the car or van, to rehearse, it weights not much more than one kilo. It's a joy to have and even in live performance it's perfectly usable.

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skullcrusher Pine Size wise, it's bigger than a Kala but much smaller than a acoustic bass. The length is about 82 centimetres.

  • @MB-fj9tc

    are they rubber strings?

    • @BassAdvisor

      Yes! Still stock strings. Aquila Thundergut. Weird touch but they sound good.

    • @MB-fj9tc
      @MB-fj9tc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martí Sanmartí can you easily slide over the rubber strings?

  • @robfriedrich2822
    @robfriedrich2822 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Possibly it will rattle less with nylon strings....

    • @BassAdvisor
      @BassAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I want to try some silver wound or nylon.
