Hi. I had a intermittent door lock on one door. I bought the actuator and watched your video. I noticed from your video the manual door lock on my truck was obviously installed backwards by the last person working on the door. I went outside and removed and reinstalled the part in less than 60 seconds. Door lock works fine now. Thanks for saving me a ton of work and time. Your time and efforts to post the video are greatly appreciated.
Awesomely helpful, thanks. The passenger door on my 99 Silverado sticks in the cold weather and I've been threatening for two years to do something about it. The advice was spot on. I had no difficulty removing the mechanism and, true to form, it was filthy and completely gunked up. WD 40 didn't seem to do the job so I tried a can of spray on penetrating oil and it worked great. I blew it out with compressed air which actually took a surprisingly long time. Instead of brushing on lithium grease I bought a spray can and using the red tube surgical precision was possible. I'm looking forward to a stick free winter.
The white part on the original mechanism I believe is for Passlock. It disarms the alarm when unlocking with a key. My 2006 Sierra has only one key lock and it is on the driver's door. I replaced both front door electrical actuators because my dome lights wouldn't come on and the retained accessory power wouldn't shut off when opening the doors. I found this white part when I got to the driver's door. It was held on with a stainless steel band clip and glued to the mechanism. I was lucky enough to pry it off without breaking it and the stainless clip holds it on tight. I was successful in my repair and saved a lot of money.
Thank you very much for this. I had ordered a part from 1AAuto and realized once I got it all taken apart that it wasn't the same. Did some extensive Googling and came upon this video. I will try the cleaning and if that doesn't work will try and remove the door sensor. Parts retailers should really disclose this information before selling..
Awesome! Can't wait to dive into my 2006 Silverado 1500 driver's side lock. Cold days ( sub 20 degrees ) it would stick. Now just plain stuck all the time. I can hear it want to work.
Thank you, I knew the problem just needed a guide to complete the repair on my 04 Tahoe. This was exactly what I needed. Only thing I had problems with is the 3rd nut on the exterior handle, I had to run electric tape inside a short socket so it would lock on the nut and use a pair of pliers to loosen it.
I ran into the same problem with the replacement actuator, but the arm on my old one was broken so cleaning was not an option. First, The idea that nothing can be done to remedy the situation short of purchasing the overpriced factory part is just wrong. I was successful in using a razor to carefully score the glue joint and disassemble the door closure sensor from the original part. It just piggybacks on the actuator motor assembly with adhesive and one alignment pin. I was able to reattach the sensor to the new part with 5 minute epoxy (be sure to only apply to the mating edge....DO NOT get epoxy inside the sensor). It worked like a charm...excellent bond and my repair cost me less than $20!
Thanks dirtyshirt. You keep it moving, I like that. So many older lock actuators go bad, window switches too, and it's usually dirt/corrosion. As you found new part prices are OUCH. I found an amazing product (zero affiliation) that works on electrical. "Corrosion X". A little pricey and worth every cent.
Thank you for the cleaning and regreasing idea. Both my left and right actuators only work intermittently and they are getting worse. So I am assuming nothing is broken but just likely gunked up after 250,000 miles of use. So I will take the doors apart and clean out the old grease and regrease with lithium to see if this works. Great idea, thanks.
FYI, the additional I was successful in separating the additional part referred to in the video with a heat gun and sharp utility knife. Crazy glued it to the new actuator and re-installed. Works Great!
+MyI MPlace Thank you for your kinds words and thanks for watching. Out next Chevy videos will be a power steering pump replacement, oil cooler line replacement and a valve cover gasket job. Check back for more details....
So to clean the actuator I just have to spray wd40 on it ? And the symptom I have is that when I unlock my truck with the control it only opens it halfway which won’t let me open the door
Love your video and explanation. My issue is my 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD driver door won't open from inside or outside or with the remote. The inside lock button is stuck or wont move more than halfway to the uock position. Would this be from the actuator?
I'm afraid it's been far too long since I did this work and can't comment directly. Maybe somebody else might know. My only thought is to pull the door panel and start working all of the mechanisms to see where the hang up is occurring.
@dirtyshirtinfo unfortunately, since the door won't open, removing the panel is not possible as there is a screw under the door panel that you can't get to unless you rip the panel off. I may try to disconnect the battery and let it sit for awhile and then reconnect it. MAYBE that will reset the electronics and magically make the door fully unlock!!
I found a complete door lock actuator assembly on Amazon for $118.00 including tax. It is a Dorman 931-209. It is suppose to be an exact replacement. I haven't received it yet and I will update this post when I get it installed.
Just replaced actuator only on a 2003 Tahoe. The part from 1AAuto did not have the referenced door ajar sensor. Perhaps that's a proprietary item for original part. It is essential however. I applied moderate heat heat with a heat gun first and then put old assembly in a vise to hold steady. Using a fine blade putty knife I easily was able to separate white plastic piece and reapply to replacement part with a couple of dabs of good super glue. This is a pretty simple job if done patiently. If actuator is showing signs of weakness or making funny sounds it's just a matter of time before it fails. Just get it over with.
just replaced mine. It won't unlock with the door switch or key fob. Does something need to be coded at the dealer? It's getting power to the bottom harness when I check it with a test light.
Thank you for the video, did this to my 2000 silverado. I just replaced the actuator and had to separate the white piece than glue it to the new actuator.
Jeff, do you have any advice for a 2004 Chevy Cavilier, 2 door with power locks where NEITHER DOOR WILL CLOSE AND STAY LOCKED SHUT? thanks in advance...
just curious what we're your symptoms. all my locks work except the driver but it will unlock. also my rap and dome light are messed up I don't know if this is same sensor... thanks
+Mattdog2020 Hi Matt, we're guessing you have the same vehicle...the passenger door on this truck does not light up the interior when the door is opened. It appears to be a sensor in the wiring feed from the body of the truck to the door (there's a square bulge in the wiring). We've briefly scratched out heads over this problem but haven't gotten into the guts yet. Perhaps that will be another video on another day, it's pretty annoying and not very user friendly for the passenger. Thanks for watching.
could this be done the same procedure on my 2002 chevy avalanche z71,it wont unlock or lock on none 4 doors,i have to unlock manually, i changed fuses but none,PLEASE HELP,THANKS IN ADVANCE!
hise23 is it actually not locking or us the knob just not moving? Sometimes the link bar will fall out of the lock knob and it will look like its not locked.
So apparently it’s a security device that tells the truck whether you unlocked it with a key or from the inside. If you lock your truck with the key fob, then unlock it manually with a key and this sensor is not in place, the alarm will go off.
Unbelievable, my son in law’s 2020 Silverado has had all four door locks fail one at a time starting with the driver’s door! Trying to get him to buy imports!
Fantastic video! This video helped me save a lot of time on my repair. Thanks.

This really helped me understand and fix my sticky door lock, clean it with WD-40 and grease it with lithium grease. Thanks much.
Good video. Helped me change the passenger side door luck actuator on my 05 Tahoe. Now they all work :)
Finally a how to video that goes straight to the point. Great video thanks

+Kyle Malone Hi Kyle, thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. We really appreciate your thoughts...
Thank you for solving the mystery of the extra connector, saved me a good bit of research.
Thanks for watching Jake and good luck with your project!
7 years later and I'm still referencing this video.

same here without the cold temps
Nice! Replaced my driver's side a few years back ,, gonna try the cleaning today 👍👍

Could you please update on your comment. I'm sure very many people like to know what happened and I'm right there. Thanks.
Perfect, leave the rods attached, disconnect the three weather pack connectors, and remove it. The three nuts on the door handle assembly are 10MM.
My right side door self locks sometimes when outside handle pulled is this the solution to that problem or can you suggest some thing else
Excellent video.

Don’t you hate it when you lose an entire day for nothing. It’s like me every time I take on a simple plumbing fix.
LOL, no lie and plumbing is my nemesis...
So in other words you had the dealership fix it . Makes sense Good job
Windy where you're at. I'm curious...where is that?
8:32 That is all you should know here. So save on time and spend more!

Theres a youtube video where the guy cut the glue loose on that plastic piece and glued it to a replacement part.
You don't actually show how to do anything. You're only explaining it. Would have been nice to see exactly how you cleaned it for example.
Ahaha the ending
i just left the white part off. the door ajar light isnt on, might not be functional didnt check yet, but not worth the hassle really anyway.
So apparently it’s a security device that tells the truck whether you unlocked it with a key or from the inside.
If you lock your truck with the key fob, then unlock it manually with a key and this sensor is not in place, the alarm will go off.

1Aauto.com has the whole part for $97 & some change
I need to replace, you make a10 minute video then explain your not replacing because of the same issue everyone else is having at the end!🤦
