Imo greatest guitar solo ever.
It's an unreal guitar riff, but it's a full group effort (drums, piano, bass and 2 guitars) so I wouldn't call it a solo. It's probably my favourite guitar heavy segment, but I'd have to say the best solos are done by Steve Ray Vaughan - that guy is ridiculous.

Need to watch the Knebworth concert. The stage looked like The Rolling Stones tongue logo with a ramp where the tongue is. Skynyrd was told to stay off the ramp because that was for the Stones use. During Free Bird Ronnie Van Zant sent the guitar players out on the tongue just to show that you didn’t tell them what to do.
I can't even imagine being at that concert series in Oakland - Peter Frampton & Santana played the same day as Lynyrd, plus The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, and others played that same weekend.
You'll never have a lineup like that again. You should watch the Peter Frampton performance of Do You Feel Like We Do from this concert.
The crash was only a couple months after this performance in October killing the lead singer Ronnie, the guitarist Steve and his sister Cassie who was back up singer. So sad, they were just entering their prime

I saw them june 16th 1977 at nassau coliseum live...a little over 4 months later they were gone...a few survived the plane crash..ronnie came out with no shoes and planted his feet and didnt move..one of the best front men ive ever seen..im 64 years old and since then i have not even seen a tribute band not even his brother who looks just like him but in my eyes it would be a step backwards...once you reach the pinnacle you stay put and keep it in your heart...next do the ballad of curtis lowe...you should see the documentary on cable...LIVE THIS SOLO WENT ON FOR OVER 20 MINUTES

That sound is the bird, played on the guitar. LOLOL They would always start yelling once the bird started tweeting. Ya'll I took my two boys to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at a show in SC when they were maybe 11 - 13 or so. They had screens on both sides of the stage and people with cameras shooting the front row. My oldest started poking me and I leaned over to hear what he had to say. He said "Mom, a girl just showed everyone her boobies". LOL On the screen.

It is tragic that just a few months later a number of them were killed when their plane crashed...the others were never the same after that. They burned so very bright, but only for a short time.
