In 1977, I was in a community college and Lynyrd Skynyrd was a huge part of the music we listened to. Especially, coming from a small town. Sadly, three months after this performance three members of the band were tragically killed in a plane crash! 😢

Great reaction, dude! This particular performance brings me to tears every time. The music, the crowd response is just so emotional. This band was cut down in their prime... to think what might have been. RIP members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Thank you for the memories.

There were over 63 thousand people there that day. Only 3 months before the fatal plane crash. Us grandparents rocked way harder than most people know and yes we were wild!!

An instrumental & emotional rollercoaster from the get go. This performance is sheer magnificence! Quite a few of them never got to grow old, but on a positive note their music never will either 🎸

Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Saturday Night Special", "Gimme Three Steps" etc.

Artemis is still alive and kicking. He has his own band and they honor the legacy of Skynyrd. And while not technically part of the band, Leslie Hawkins is also still with us.

Hey dude great reaction to the Greatest of all concert songs. I was in my car at the age of 20. I heard on the radio about the plane crash. I cried like a baby that day. What a loss. If you notice in the crowd all girls. with very few guys, except for boyfriends... They were in love with the song and band.

192,000+ people according to one Google source. Stands and field makes sense.

Just yesterday I saw a couple of posts from attendees; they both reported 63,000. But now the question is "Was that for the 2-days' concert total or this day only?" My guess is 192K folks is too much. No matter, because the crowd adds so much energy as opposed to the purer studio version; the live Oakland ending is monster, too, more so than on the album.

IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IN 3 MONTHS AND 18 DAYS HALF THE BAND WOULD BE DEAD...THIS CONCERT WAS ON JULY 2 1977 AND THE PLANE CRASH WAS ON OCT 20 1977.. BUT THIS IS THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL SONG EVER WRITTEN... I'VE BEEN A GREAT FAN OF ROCK AND ROLL SINCE AROUND 1963 STARTING WITH I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND BY THE BEATLES... NO SONG HAS EVER GOTTEN SUCH A RESONSE AS THIS ONE...PEOPLE GO NUTS EVEN ON THE TH-cam VIDEOS... ESPECIALLY BLACK FOLKS.. BLACK FOLKS DO LIKE ROCK AND ROLL.. IT JUST HAS TO BE GOOD ROCK AND ROLL...

Unfortunately about two months after this concert a plane crash took the lives of the lead singer and the lead guitar player and a couple of other members
