@danielmiau8694 Too bad Yugioh players nowadays have Stockholm Syndrome. This game has been trending in the wrong direction card design-wise for a while now, yet I still see people trying to gaslight folks into thinking this game is fine still. Players disgruntled about how this game is being managed are scoffed at. Having any form of negative opinion towards the game makes you a "Yugiboomer" now. I think the playerbase is just as responsible for the game's current state as Komoney is, as they've allow themselves to get played by this greedy company. How many times are the players going to make excuses for why a multi-billion dollar company refuses to manage their game properly?
Like realistically tho how many decks would need to be hit to get rid of 1 card combos? I think a big part of it is that the amount of handtraps needed to stun a deck for you to be able to playthrough their board has been slowly ramping and thats where the issue lies. Opening 2 handtraps should be enough otherwise youre not actually playing your own deck and 90% of games will just be whoever opened enough handtraps
@@StijnEngels Expecting to open 2 hand traps is still insane. Like, maybe if you are playing a mid-range deck ala Sky Striker. But decks are a lot more interesting when they are mainly engine that is capable of going 1st and 2nd.
I agree and honestly maliss the only issue is white rabbits price tag malice gives a new take on virtual worlds play style and can be a good alternative to ryzial not to mention the cool counter play you can do
I completely disagree. I’m not gonna act like I jump out of joy when I play against ryzeal, or even ryzeal FS, but I somewhat enjoy the matchup. Whenever I encounter maliss I just sigh.
@@sinner2133What's enjoyable about the Ryzeal matchup? Let me guess - "at least you can play"? Playing into a board & losing anyway is just a waste of everyone's time.
@@tsukamesuccess7332 For me, it's the fact that the board has enough disruption points for hand traps to be effective and often is forced to make half boards. Decks provide a lot of grind game. Also, trying to play into a board is part of the fun, and you're not guaranteed to lose anyway this format with the lower ceiling of the board.
I really don't see how playing against Fiendsmith Ryzeal is any less frustrating than playing against Maliss, the endboard is almost as unbeatable as Snake eyes endboards if you don't interrupt them, and against Maliss you have cards like Lancea that completely cut off their plays, while no such card exists to stop fiendsmith Ryzeal.
you can prepare for FS ryzeal with bystials and ash duo drive. even the end board is not that good once you have a board breaker like TTT or imperm. but maliss you cant handtrap them and board breakers do nothing
@@debbachedebbache5182 so I have to open multiple hand traps, which is the exact same issue we're discussing for Snake eyes. And you can prepare for Maliss with cards like Nibiru, Fuwalos, and of course, Lancea. I get it feels bad to imperm the maliss normal summon when they have an extender. It's the same way for Ryzeal, they just don't have quite the same obvious choke point like with duo drive.
@@Zachurry Listen Maliss is just another fun Cyberse archetype. You can add in a ton of Cyberse support cards, or add in Kash, and Striker just to relive the days where Kash and Striker was doing amazing. But It's Maliss that's going to be the one carrying not the other two. The other two are good, great even, but they are like added tech rather than another engine. Where as Ryzeal and Fiendsmith are absolutely synergizing engines slapped together with little drawback.
I'm a bit confused as to why Maliss is catching heat but every other deck is running fiendsmith.deck combo as if that's not the actual problem. Especially since Ryzeal Fiendsmith is the best deck of the format.
@@Liliana_the_ghost_catToo bad that the cheapest Fiendsmith Engraver is selling at $84.50 at the time of this comment. Another issue with YGO and its inability to make their meta cards accessible
Fiendsmith is Not an engine that leads to non-games in Ryzeal. A Ryzeal Fiendsmith Board can be Played through or at least partially broken with a lot of common cards and the chokepoints are much clearer. Maliss is typical Cyberse slop, it wins the game on the Spot if you cant stop it immediately
The reality about Maliss is the endboard is way weaker than people think it is. Aside from Ghost Ogre on the link 2 which is a very devastating hit compared to any other handtrap, your imperm is best served stopping white binder from setting the follow up trap. The SP endboards play around this of course, but if you used your non engine correctly it becomes very stressful to stop any meta deck from running over the endboard. Maliss best controls this by its ability to use shifter better than any deck ever created, with turn 2 shifter post combo as well as recycling shifter with firewall.
Its 2 non-target banishes and a draw 3 if you stick with maliss engine for your end board, its pretty easy to get a terrahertz over a banish, and firewall is free to stick on your end board because of the cyberse extenders. Not to mention fiendsmith or knightmare gryphon, or Ip, which are all easy enough to access through engine. I think you can muscle your way through a banish 2 and hm, 2 hand traps? Its not that high odds at that, but a third hand trap at the right place is usually game over. Post side you really can't deal with that draw power reliable. So while you can get otk'd here and there through your end board it never feels like a consistent answer.
@@shawnjavery the one card combo is 1 s/t negate (contingent on retaining Terrahertz on field) and either a quick link or an on field effect negate, and 2 banishes (both contingent on GWC resolving). Ghost Ogre plus any handtrap is a turn pass on nothing, if GWC does not reach the field or gets ghost bell/impulsed the entire endboard ceases functioning. Half the reason Terrahertz is getting cut in favor of superior endboards like what FS Maliss or other variants is because it concentrates a lot of resources into a very basic and conditional endboard piece. If you know what you're doing you can trade up against Maliss's endboard interaction very favorably, and Maliss while having a lot of draw power does not have the space to go beyond 15-18 non engine, with 6 of those being blowout cards like shifter or fuwalos that don't contribute to the endboard. Obviously you can and should win games where you full combo with a one card and have a full hand, but against ryzeal for example you need to stop at least 2 searches in order to not lose the entire board to exciton knight, hence why superior boards have been developed to survive getting pushed through.
@@Liliana_the_ghost_cat Tell me a single other deck that can perform a setup combo involving gy interaction that can then shifter on the opponent's turn, in addition to being able to pick up that same shifter from the gy to reuse it without needing to find another one?
@@bicknell1258bro what? You’re not gonna have no graveyard with any decent combo so you can’t set up a board with shifter live and if you shifter yourself, the deck actually doesn’t perform great under it
The Maliss board is really hard to break, nigh on impossible in most cases if they get to full board - but in SUDA, Twins of the Eclipse will make Ryzeal boards really sticky too.
Ngl, from my perspective I think Ryzeal/Fiendsmith is the issue… Maliss seems to be less consistent than Ryzeal and Fiendsmith. Maliss usually requires more “engine” and less “non-engine” (in “” due to state engine would be any sub engine/s like Striker/Bystial/Kash, and non-engine would be Handtraps/Breakers). Maliss also isn’t great Pure. It needs a sub engine to be good, unlike Ryzeal.
You are wrong, Ryzeal is very inconsistent because of the small engine. Jesse is correct though, Maliss is just Waifu Snake-Eye EG. Both don’t lose to hand traps both are combo decks, both can kill you turn 2 if they open a board wipe and you are playing Ryzeal it’s an auto lose. Maliss has searchable “ traps” quick eff spells basically that dodge targeting effects, problem is Maliss can dodge dodge almost every handtrap and if you want to stop Maliss you must play worse HTs. Ryzeal pure is FAR more fair and enjoyable to play giving lots of decks chances to get into a top deck game, Maliss will brick or OTK you by turn2-4 how is that fun? Ppl are biased because they obviously play Maliss , I own Maliss but the deck 100% is a combo snake eye deck regardless of the typing it’s a combo deck that has so many searches because it’s a cyberese deck instead of a more niche type like pyro or thunder not many great ways to search these cards. Jesse is correct here Maliss will forever be more of a issue in the tcg becuase it’s more popular, rather then the opposite in the OCG
I disagree This format even vs maliss or with maliss still gives the player a LOT more agency than what we had during the last year. Maliss might be a 1 card combo pile but the deck has got some obvious weaknesses and building a Maliss deck to cover for those increases your agency if done correctly
@Jiftys-w4tI disagree white forest azumina is still a good deck and is getting new support and melodious can rip both decks a new one if times correctly
@Jiftys-w4t nah bro. There's still a good amount of tier 2 and strong rogue strategies that can compete as long as the pilot knows what they're doing. Been playing WF Azamina since ROTA and have been doing fine
Probably unpopular opinion, but I'm really not liking fiendsmith this format. Generic engine that either baits out handtraps so you can safely do your main combo or ends on extra negates. Entire engine is 1 card combos too so that's awesome and if you happen to not draw it, then just get 2 bodies on the field and proceed to faceroll your playmat. Feels like just a slightly more interesting version of the Adventure engine.
Shouldn't be an unpopular opinion at all. It's overpowered AF and the ability to recycle and lacrima/paradise on the opponents turn is just ridiculous. Cancerous engine that offers way too much and asks nothing of the player.
@@CopenRAYEgen Why did Konami ban or limit floodgates then? All you need to say out a Skill Drain is an old card like MST so Skill Drain is fine at 3 and never needed to get limited, heck Mystic Mine is fine because there exists plenty of spell/trap hate so let's bring that back to 3...
I, personally, have enjoyed this format more than the last. It feels like Maliss and Ryzeal both play through a litany of handtraps with some hands and die to one with others. I think Ghost Ogre in particular gets a lot of value against Maliss. Removing the Link 2s they use to climb makes it a lot harder to get to those link 3s without extenders. And having to banish names earlier than you would normally always feels bad. Just my two cents, though. I can understand the frustrations.
@@tyfallon Haggard or Splash mage, depending on what they use first. Although, like most decks, if they have the extender then it might not matter. I had a game where I used widow anchor to steal the haggard on summon and that was the end of their turn.
I’m honestly srry but ryzeal is much worse. Maliss cannot play through as many hand traps as u think the deck is too normal summon for the main Maliss monster. but saying u hate Maliss one card combo but ur fine with ryzeal 1 card combo is crazy they’re one card combo is so good they literally use 2 ryzeal monsters to go into fiendsmith combo and still end with both engines on board srry but this is just cyber hate plus ryzeal loses to one trap both deck have a lose condition. Crazy part don’t u love tear? Lol
Pro players love formats where everything in their deck can interact with the opponents deck at any time and where there are limited amount of decks available to compete. Which makes it easier to prepare for an event. So in formats where that isn't possible, they tend to complain. I understand this point but I'd still rather play in formats where there are more deck choices.
Who says that? You can even play half deck handtrap even Nah no need you have Maliss trap to dodge, Maliss field spell and Gold Sarcophagus even Bystial to extend
@@Woarkeswat Yeah, tl;dr the rude way to say it: pros dislike high-luck-variance formats where worse players with worse decks can beat them realistically.
I usually respect your opinions, but this one is not one i can get behind. Maliss feels a lot better and more fun to play than Ryzeal. Uninterrupted, Fiendsmith Ryzeal is especially unfair. it's at least 3 negates, 3 pops, and whatever non engine they used to make up the rest of what layers into 10+ interrupts. We can also see that Maliss is far less represented in the vast sea of Ryzeal decks that do well in tournaments. The deck has a far higher skill level required to play than Ryzeal does, a lot less linear of plays to be made, and more severe chokepoints. Ryzeal having each of its starters also exist as extenders (in case something gets impermed, ashed, etc.) means that handtraps also don't work very well against the deck. Altogether, i think both decks are well positioned as they sit currently, but Ryzeal definitely holds a significant edge over Maliss. It sucks that you have to play against a lot of the same deck in your local area, I can see how that gets stale. However, you seem to be operating on an unfortunate bias here.
Okay, I watched even the last few minutes and you really do just seem butt hurt about it. "I think floodgates are bad" and then three seconds later "hopefully when this new floodgate specifically for Maliss comes out, the game will get better" and then "F*&^ this stupid Maliss deck". What? C'mon now. Make it make sense...
This entire video, he made several contradictory statements which makes it incredibly obvious he's suffering from bias due to loss. "This deck is just like snake-eye and can't be stopped" ..later.. "This deck loses to one of any of these handtraps". It's just a rant video because he lost at locals, it really shouldn't be given the time of day.
He basically saying ryzeal doesn't do much alone it's another boring rank 4 xyz deck with fiendsmith stuff we dealt with and know what to do. For Maliss you're basically adding 3 different engines to make the deck good. As Joshua Schmidt said every cyberse deck feels like accesscode otk if they have to go to it as there last option.
Because the 1 card combo Fiendsmith leads to desiræ pass or to caesar + paradise set up in gy if uninterupted. While Maliss 1 card combo is Terrahertz (1 s/t negate and the packbit removal or maybe the agregator if people are still on it) + at least the trap that revices binder into crowing effect for maybe 1 or 2 against you + banishing rabbit that grabs you another trap which can banish binder to draw 1 card during your turn. Gameplay wise, fiendsmith are very manageable with regular hts because they can all be activated against them and mostly 1 is enough for you to prevent the desiræ or the caesar. Also breakers are usable against fiendsmith cards. Bystials wrecks the engine too. While Maliss is very resilient against them and regular hts, asks you to have at least 2, one of them has to be nibiru, breakers are unusable against it for the most part or you have to have the lingering floodgate in Lancea or the chaos hunter. The only thing where fiendsmith is less fair than Maliss is that fiendsmith cards are very accessible through residual bodies because of Moon link, when Maliss has no way to really recover after getting stopped (because sometimes it happens). To make it short, fiendsmith do less and has way more counters than Maliss but they are way more generic than Maliss
@@donovan7132 Yeah, one problem, fiendsmith is a engine. ALLLLLL of what you say + detonator + negate on RESOLUTION + 3 cards in hands. Maliss is a deck that lock you into links pretty early on, fiendsmith an engine playable anywhere with no lock at all.
How is fiend Smith manageable if it literally makes every deck that plays with it a contending deck? It's just an abusive engine That needs to be dealt with Because literally every deck loses its identity just by splashing that engine in it. At least malice is only using a striker engine That no one else is abusing @@donovan7132
i sure love my infinite engine fiendsmith variations where none of my hand traps matter and cards that're better than half the banlist are all at 3 and untouched in the tcg! oh shit this decks doing what mathmech did without transcode talker ban it murder it kill it
Honestly, I have a few problems with Maliss. The biggest one is their ability to play around hand traps, which is already annoying, but Dimension Shifter takes it to another level. Not only does it stop a lot of decks from playing, but it also shuts off some hand traps, which are your only defense against the deck.
@@four-en-teemy locals has 8 maliss players, they all gentlemaned out of shift and im telling you the deck is still annoying to play against there are times where the deck is easy to hand trap and there are times where you have to hope that you hand trap the right way. Add to this the protection effects making you have to triple check that you can destroy/interact with cards makes it worse. Obv shifter is aggravating and should be banned no contest on that but i do think as a deck maliss is kinda shitty
@ora5799 I agree, but the other problem I have with them is their ability to send their monsters to the banished zone with traps, which makes it unfair to play against. On top of that, they can set up Gryphon too.
@thenutawakens371 I wouldn't say it's unfair. Yes, it's annoying they can dodge, but I don't think that's terrible. Having terraherz and sending something that does something else like a pop or banish or a negate on top of saying u can't activate anything during the BP, that's the unfair part.
I never had the pleasure of going first against Maliss in Game 1 somehow so I never know the feeling being able to beat them like that. Outside of Lancea, there is no clear choke point or clear weakness. A lot of hand traps played against it are on a hope and a prayer. It feels like no matter what combination of cards that you have, Maliss can build highly disruptive boards. I played against a guy in round 4 at regionals where we were undefeated. I lost the die roll and felt I had no business winning due to the way he played and my lack of real efficient disruption. I haven’t loathed a deck like this since Floo.
Idk what everyone is smoking saying ryzeal is OK lol every card in that deck is a poplar that doesn't even need to be added.....it just jumps out of the hand and searches.....u can't get more efficient than that and don't even get me started on detonator....he's omega pushed
Tbh I don’t really think maliss is the issue, I think the problem are all these rampant unchecked engines, like kash, bystial, and bringing back the sky striker cards was just incorrect since that was one of the other problems with striker back then…just a generic engine. The game really needs to dial back on generic engines
Thanks for the shoutout at 1:12 . I have been much much more active on reddit recently arguing for and against multiple problems with both the Yugioh and Lorcana formats.
I know professional players always find the ways to push and break decks, but as someone casual who enjoys playing pure decks, I don't mind one card combos. I enjoy when konami makes decks that have enough consistency to actually be played pure.
Maybe for casuals, but Jesse is actually knowledgeable enough to understand what makes decks different from each other outside of their place on the tier list.
@@ccjl9160 Obviously not, but I was responding to a comment about Jesse's opinions. I do also agree with Jesse though, decks with super powerful turn 1 plays are worse for the game than grindier decks with lower ceilings. This is especially true when people rely on turn skip cards like Lancea to have a chance against malice going second. Ryzeal at least doesn't have that specific issue.
@@WarpedByTheNHK brother, you cannot open every single game imperm, to stop the Duo Drive to add fucking 2 cards, that wins you the game, because one of them is anti Nibiru(one of the cards that does something vs Ryziel if they extend), you cannot also open 2nd imperm, in case they open only engine, so they make Detonator anyway and can we talk about, how the deck does not care about that FS is just free lvl 4 body if everything goes bad or anti imperm also type of card.. Not every deck, can play against pop 2-3 stuff, the deck does not automaticly lose to D Barrier, unlike Maliss, that loses to Lancea. Also, can we talk about, how the deck has access to a generic searcher, that does not require you to go neg 1 to be activated? Also, the deck can easily access 2 bodies without requiering NS so go full combo.. Brother, Maliss is indeed probably frustrating to play against, but the deck is much less consistant, require much more work to make a board, yes the board is stronger than Ryziel one, but only, if we talk about pure Ryziel, with the FS shit, both end boards are same level of power, but the dif is, Ryziel can set up it easier
@ Yeah, I won't disagree, but beyond him not being "casual", he's a content creator. It's in his best interest to be contrarian and would've had a "hot take" opinion regardless of the health of the format.
Come on… this is not even close to snake eyes format…. Shifter was an turn skip button for snakeyes and only a couple decks could run it. Lancea is in EVERYONE’s side deck! Unless a maliss player draws called by or has cross out its pretty much a turn skip too. Be better at deck building… you said it yourself that deck building is important that you have to build it for all the matchups and not just a ton of hand traps. Going second cards break boards and you’re one of the best to do it. There are cards that are designed to go second that break both maliss and Ryzeal boards. Use them. It’s gross when the best players in the world create content to complain instead of push their mind to beat the meta. Jessie you are one of the best to do it please lead by example and find the solution instead of creating content that seems like throwing in the towel
Maybe it's because I'm playing maliss myself, but I personally like the mirror. THe board feels breakable, depending on the nonengine they drew alongside it. And depending on the decklist you can weaken the endboard with handtraps. Or use handtraps like ash and belle as breakers
Ok guys, but with all due respect. How are you not prepared for Maliss at this point. It’s a little ridiculous to not have a well thought out plan when entering a tournament.
this is just not true, in my opinon at least. Ryzeal is a much stronger deck then Maliss so far. I wouldn`t even say their Endboards are that much harder to out. Even maliss has a good amount of checkpoints, it is just not as rewarding as duodrives is. Deck also has stronger outs to it then Ryzeal, like lancea and Nib. even outing some of their early link climbing can punish them heavily, heck i would even say shifter is quit effective agianst them. Sure full combo maliss is strong and can feel toxic, but same goes for Ryzeal as well. Heck i would easily say Dreadnader is a much more broken card then teraherzn(even if People won`t agree here with me). This Format is much better the Snake eyes, since both meta deck have easier and better Plays and counter to use against them. Please don`t hate on cyberse deck just because combo, it is not a good argument to call a deck bad for being combo centring. Sure you don`t have to like it, but most cyberse decks are ass and most comboying maliss does ends really on Gryphon, Teraherz or their Link boss. I think you really judge this format to harshly, one card combos will alwys be a part of the game now. Maliss has some, Ryzeal has them and engines like fiendsmith are also one card combos. I am sure sombody will disregard my opinion because now Tournament winner, lets see if my prediction is correct.
I am a floo player and I gotta say this format is a breath of fresh air. I love the match ups against ryzeal and Maliss, as it turns into a grind game everytime where last format it was “did I draw 2 breakers?” I enjoy this format.
Maliss having only 3 main deck monsters vs ryzeal with like 5 main deck names and somehow maliss is a problem? Ryzeal has 20% more regional wins and tops iver maliss
I think the problem with this is like, when a maliss deck cost less than a 3 engraver + tract FS engine you see the problem with diversity in the format, also ryzeal is double ur than maliss, double the price, PAIR BOTH WITH AND VOALA! so thats wy there is more towards the ´cheap´ deck that is not also cheap if you add into other engines or impulse, the problem lies with commnuity wanna see more of these decks but there is not enough cards for everyone play these, price stuff all over Most ryzeal FS stuff representation really happening only in large tournaments thats expected Do take note maliss might fall on track after SUDA because ecclipse twins + FS is so busted that they might trow maliss to a tier 1.5 deck, their endboard is not enough with teraherz anymore Btw this is a Tier 0 format again, FS is a Tier 0 engine/deck masking into ryzeal, tenpai, and other stuff even maliss, and its beccoming, problematic same reason you comment on SE problem, you deal with witch, ash now you deal with FS and thats also happening in Ryzeal FS variances and others too.
I don’t think maliss is the issue, it’s the sheer amount of turn skip cards this format with cards like lancea, shifter, d barrier etc. How is getting turn skipped for either player fun? In terms of hand traps and one card starters maliss has way bigger consistency issues compared to fs ryzeal. And now adding cards like seventh tachyon which in turn helps even more 1 card starters as well as grabbing lancea a turn skip. This is just experience from locals but fs ryzeal and maliss feel just as frustrating to play against, i really can’t sum it up to maliss being the main culprit. Fs ryzeal is just as hard to handtrap a maliss, but honestly just remove all the toxic turn skips and the game will be so much more enjoyable.
I dont really get it you say Maliss has consistency issues, a hard counter in lancea, fuwalos hurts it as well as the new charmy, but at the same time you say handtraps dont matter against it how can it be both? I feel Ryzeal FS is way worse There is no hard counter cause with the new eclipse card even board breakers dont matter anymore against the deck tho I gotta add I enjoy both deck just wish eclipse wasn’t printed as it took away ryzeals weakness
I believe he was referring to regular hts, not hts (blowouts) that most decks don't really want to main. Maliss kinda invalidates regular hts most of the time. I think it promotes unfair gameplay when a deck's counters are blow out cards like that. And it also makes playing Maliss frustrating as well because you can auto lose to 1 card (mainly Lancea). Also, you say that point about Ryzeal FS but there are plenty of good cards vs the deck. What you're saying is that there isn't their version of Lancea against Ryzeal FS. But that's a good thing. You shouldn't be able to invalidate everything a deck does with just 1 card. Overall, I agree w/ Jesse. He's spitting. Maliss is def a lot more frustrating to play against. Btw, I'm not saying that Ryzeal FS is healthy & fun to play against, but Maliss is another beast. (Maliss is worse but still more unfun to play against)
@ but Ryzeal FS also plays through most regular handtraps I don’t see how that’s any different. I’d argue ryzeal fs even plays better through handtraps as it’s a lot more consistent than Maliss. I enjoy both decks and I don’t mind playing against either the only thing I don’t enjoy about Maliss is Griffin lock and shifter and for Ryzeal it’s dweller and eclipse which is unfun
@@GraysonKenna No it doesn't. One handtrap will stop the FS engine and one handtrap will stop the ryzeal engine. They still might get to a deadnater but there are actual chokepoints. By handtraping duo, you'll stop cross access for instance. The issue with Maliss is that the deck has extreme redundancy. There are no choke points because they have multiple cards that all do the same thing. This is similar to the problem with snake-eyes where there were multiple ways to get to OSS, multiple ways to summon flamberge, etc. You couldn't actually stop the deck from playing if they drew starter + extender. Maliss is the same. You can't stop trap access because there are multiple cards that get to trap (rabbit + binder). You can't stop bodies because every monster is an extender. Etc. Then, once their endboard is made, it's extremely layered. There aren't breakers that deal with the board and they have an incredible amount of high quality interactions and follow up. This means that the only ways to beat Maliss if they're going 1st is either handtrap them early and pray they don't have an extender (does this sound familiar? 'Normal summon snake-eye ash chain imperm and pray') or floodgate them (lancea).
@@GraysonKenna I've found that the Maliss endboard is incredibly difficult to break after hand trapping it if they continue, and the Ryzeal board is a lot easier to break after hand trapping it. It's all about the ceiling.
My favorite time for Yu-Gi-Oh was right before links came out (performapal was my favorite deck) I played it pure at the time which is now impossible, id love to play my pet deck nowadys but unfortunately pendulum (my favorite mechanic) has been curb stomped so hard that any competent pend deck that comes out isnt even pend anymore.
The issue is what do you hit now without completely killing it before reprints? Anything you actually hit won't really do anything unless you wanna kill it completely.
@@KariiVG if FS wasnt that easy to accesse with like moon and exciton, rogue decks will have a better matchup against ryzeaal for example. even maliss you can havelancea and they just do a full FS combo
I don't really see the problem with Maliss extending through 2 handtraps when every other deck in the room either starts with or pivots to Fiendsmith slop to do the exact same thing. I do agree with the amount of non-games in the format though. A Maliss mirror is just 6 turns of Lancea with two Kashtira Unicorn staring each other down, not exactly the most interactive gameplay, but that's a seperate issue.
It isnt a seperate issue, Maliss is the only deck creating non games. It isnt an issue that decks extend into Fiendsmith combo because Fiendsmith combo is only ok. It doesnt Provide an insane Board, it is at most 1 or 2 disruptions on its own which is far from busted.
@kotkafer2292 Pivoting to Fiendsmith combo with leftover bodies after draining your opponent of 2+ handtraps still only leaves them with 3-4 cards to contest either Desirae or Caesar, Paradise + an equal amount of nonengine in hand and followup because of FS's inherent recursion. You either have the correct combination of handtraps and extenders or you fold, that's an equally uninteresting game to play, but at least it's a game to play. What I was referring to specifically is lingering effects in Shifter, Lancea and D Barrier being the most reliable side deck option, reducing an otherwise pretty interactive format down to 2+ turns of literally nothing happening until one player runs out of floodgates.
Ashened doesnt do terrible against ryzeal because of the trap that lets you fusion summon with monsters on either field. even without the obsidim field spell, half of the ryzeal monsters, including detonater are pyros. Which means you could bait your opponent into letting you summon veidos to pop all their spells and traps, while also bringing in a beefy monster thats cant be popped or targeted by card effects
As someone who plays maliss, it's definitely not like snake eyes. Deck hard looses to lancea (having to put in 4 cards into your main to stop this), and with Chaos hunter, you need to draw an imperm or get something to negate it. Banishing white binder after they use the Banish to SS effect hurts, and you bassically put them on ransom and crypter Just like ryzeal nib plus handtrap hurts. Sure, they can play through nib depending where you nib them, but they are ending on a weak board (unlike snake eyes) And that just a few points from the top of my head
idk from all the db grinder videos im seeing Maliss just looks pretty meh. Sure its end board is hard to break when it wins the die roll but its just not good at going second. Either way I think Fiendsmith is a significantly bigger issue for the current format than Maliss. Everyone just throws it into every deck and it spits out your choice of two really good boss monsters and its infinite follow up.
I honestly think it depends on your local metagame , my area for example has way more FS Ryzeal and pure Ryzeal players than anything. The few Maliss players we have do good but the deck isnt op imo , FS Ryzeal seems to be way more oppressive than Maliss.
I’m one of those people that got Maliss fully aware of its weakness. I got them over ryzeal cuz I think they look cool and I have thid copium they will get way better 2nd wave of support than ryzeal.
Honestly maybe because I play maliss but I feel maliss is a lot more brittle because of the going second, but also the choke points are pretty clear too like ryzeal. the extenders you bring up is an arguement you can also make about any fiendsmith hybrid deck that splashes an engine in that baits once per turn handtraps and wastes them for then something like ryzeal to go full combo
any format that has decks that can play after 3 handtrap is a bad format, soon people will play 20+handtrap just to have a chance, decks playing even after 2 GOOD PLACED handtrap during their combo is already annoying
Maliss feels a little like Gouki in 2019...linking like crazy, almost unbreakable ftk boards. But now its backed up by d shifter and less obvious chokepoints. And then theres the non-engine, which is incredibly toxic when the opponent has Kashtira Unicorn or Bystial cards to support the endboard.
The last year and this most recent list killed my locals, tournaments just stopped happening. I picked up an Edison deck messaged another guy in my area that had quit before this year who liked older formats and we've been playing 1 one night a week. We a got a few more people to come join us that night and now we're all having a blast, playing chill Yu-Gi-Oh, and have more people coming than came to standard format. Good Riddance modern Yu-Gi-Oh. People in the group's kids can also play the older formats because they're not as technical and price gatekept. This might not be the case for everywhere, but locals dying in places could just be that the demographics of your area just are not the right fit for what Yu-Gi-Oh has become. I'm not dumping on anyone who enjoys modern Yu-Gi-Oh - there's tons of ya'll and it's not likely to die anytime soon.
Tbh I don’t see issue with Maliss. It’s really good when you go first game 1. (So that’s 50-50 dice roll) But after sideboard it’s get hurt by lancea , mulcharmy fullows+(new mulcharmmy getting released soon) , Nibiru. Plus deck is not that good going 2nd. So I don’t see how maliss is a problem in a best of 3 ( with sideboarding)
NGL the pace is funner now but Maliss and Ryzeal being so sticky and the best end of midrange just gives us the illusion of a healthy format, especially when you gotta be on Lancea/Shifter siding. Oh boy I'm excited to see Maliss Ryzeal Fiendsmith matchups and mirrors all day
It's not Maliss that's the problem here, it's Terahertz and Shifter. The first because it makes it feel like every other blasted Cyberse pile, the second because of all the stuff it shuts off while still allowing them to do enough to be a threat.
As someone that only really follows the game from the sidelines some, as soon as Crossover Breakers was set to come out, I immediately felt like Maliss was honestly the scarier deck between it and Ryzeal. Almost as if Ryzeal was only more dominant because it was the easier, more linear deck to play... which almost felt like it could have been a true narrative, looking at the prices of Maliss singles vs Ryzeal singles. Going second vs Ryzeal feels like it would be more like climbing a hill, whereas going second vs Maliss feels like it would be comparable to climbing a mountain, just looking at the grand scheme of things from a far zoomed out perspective. Though, obviously depends on the deck choices, the draws, and the pilots in any given scenario. But, Maliss still feels like it's the more threatening deck, far and away.
Completely agree with this. Maliss being able to use cyberse support like dot scaper, splash mage, accesscode effect to kill your board while spamming their banished links. I would rather face any deck in the game thats not maliss all day long AND they can play shifter to add insult to injury
As if the one card combos and extenders allowing play through HTs aren't enough, the maliss endboard is also resilient to board breakers thanks to Cyberse Desavewurm in the GY and the layered disruptions provided by GWC-06 + HTs drawn off of Chessy Cat + White Binder effects. Unless you're specifically building your deck to beat Maliss (and therefore making your deck worse against other matchups like Ryzeal), most conventional going second cards aren't enough to push through their endboard.
I think this speaks to the bigger problem in the game...going second is bad. You said it yourself Maliss isn't as good as snake-eyes going second. I get where your're coming from but everytime a decent archtype comes around the issue will keep coming up.
Truthfully this is the first time I have enjoyed modern yugioh in a long time. I still think hand traps are a big problem, and really needs to cut down a bit, but other than that I am enjoying the format. Been having a lot of fun playing Kash variants. Not a fan of Maliss or Ryzeal, they are kind of boring to play. Overall, the format is pretty healthy and I am glad that I have come back to play again. Wouldd love for Called by the Grave to come back to atleast 2 like MD. Id rather play board breakers than Hand Traps. Hand Traps are not fun to play against or to even use.
As a marincess player, i have about 13 or so hand traps. even if i open 4 + starter, they still build a board. meta decks seem to be decks that can play through at least 2 interruptions which is frustrating as no deck should be able to play through that much interruption and still build a board. meta kept getting ridiculous with the amount of combo vs marincess as my deck pretty much has a linear combo line and no real way to play relevant side engines, so going against maliss is auto loss, especially when my deck has to go next after a turn 1 shifter since i need grave
@@aka_Ingmar on that note I my biggest problem with tempi and gimmick puppets is the field spells as far as I’m concerned that’s the only problem card I don’t mind ftk decks as long as they don’t have a way of stopping me from interacting

Perfectly timed video lmao, this is exactly how I felt losing to Malice at a regional yesterday because I lost die roll didn't see a single hand trap games 1 and 3. When I went first I get nibbed and veilered and he still scooped at one detonator. smh.
I feel like maliss is okay. There are ALOT of handtraps that really hurt this deck with 1 even straight up ftking it. Nib, lancea, fuwaloss soon nyalus are really big cards against maliss. Also the deck can brick and if they start with only 1 starter usually 1 imperm is enough. If they get to play on the other hand this deck is a absolute beast
I completely agree, I even saw maliss players side(smokescreen ) into tenpa to counter the lanceas . I also believe twins of the eclipse is a problem on Ryzeals side too.
Tbh, I do not feel maliss is the issue. Ice rezeal fiendsmith combo is insanely broken. The only issue with maliss is that it can use shifter. But besides that, it currently feels like a legit tier 1 contender. Compared as before where it was truly tier 0 format.
Sorry but is this Video a Joke? Maliss has Like 12 cards that absolute kills them??? Ryzeal fiendsmith is the Problem. Sometimes it feels Like You beeing Paid To make Videos Like this.
I think you’re wrong about maliss bro especially after this new set comes out. I don’t think it’s gonna be top tier anymore at all and that was short lived and not that great
I actually like playing vs Ryzeal, since it's answered more easily (chokepoints on duodrive, bystial vs fiendsmith engine, etc.) Maliss everytime I've played against is "Open lancea or nib + 2 more HTs or lose". Just doesn't feel good.
I played against it at locals this week. They went first game 1. I had 3 HTs game 1 which definitely stunted it, but still lost. I didn't have a chance to really play going second because they ghost sister'd me on my first SS. We had 6 minutes left in round. I hate to complain about this card, but it feels HORRIBLE to lose in time because my opp drew ghost sister.
I personally am not a tournament player. I haven't had actual cards in a decade, a pure casual player. But if I may give my opinion, I like where the format is going. Could it be better? Absolutely. But where it is going feels healthier than ever before. In previous formats, you needed to sell your organs to enjoy the hobby. You needed to have the most meta cards to compete, if you didn't then you shouldn't even show up. I will consede that Maliss can be a problem, but it does have weaknesses that allow other decks to challenge the top. It feels like we are slowly unraveling a bandage of previous formats. Slowly removing one card combos, banning omni-negates, better designed decks. To me, it is feeling better to play the game. I hope you can feel that soon as well Jesse.
I enjoy the game but it’s just so much better on digital platforms. The prizing is even the same.. nothing🎉. Play the same game without having to argue about rulings. Play it anytime you feel like it. Can just make fun decks and play them without having to search for the cards or wait on tcgplayer. The problem with the yugioh is not the game or the format. It’s the physical product. Opening packs feels terrible. Too much unplayable garbage in sets. Singles are a much better choice but the second hand pricing is insanely dumb. The format is always fine the problem is always the physical cards. The 25th mega sets helped the market some. S:P is much more reasonable now for example. It’s terrible to expect someone to drop 400-500 on staples just getting into the game.
Being better than POTE, Kashtira, and Fire 2024 doesn't mean the format is good. YGO has been plagued by 8 month long unfun formats with 2 month breathers since 2020.
The forced rotation, one card combo Meta is just unhealthy for the game and not fun at all.
Easy brain-dead way to make money though.
@@jonathanclark7556 Yea thats the sad reality of most things in live...

Same! the fact that their one card combo starts with a negate is just despicable.
I guess it's cause Maliss is a strong independent Archetype that don't need no man(I mean added engines).
@@benmiller9536Adding Fiendsmith to Ryzeal is ok, but adding Striker/Kash to Maliss is unforgivable

Bias and prejudice against Cyberse, lead by the hateful Joshua Smidth
Because fiendsmith provide good games and back and forth interaction
Because Fiendsmith is good game design and is what Yugioh needs at this moment in time
@@Liliana_the_ghost_catToo bad that the cheapest Fiendsmith Engraver is selling at $84.50 at the time of this comment.
"Use Shifter better than any deck ever created"? What? That's so blaitantly false

This format even vs maliss or with maliss still gives the player a LOT more agency than what we had during the last year. Maliss might be a 1 card combo pile but the deck has got some obvious weaknesses and building a Maliss deck to cover for those increases your agency if done correctly
Just because its a bit better than last year doesn't mean that its a good format. Thats part of the issue Jesse is talking about.

Not only does it stop a lot of decks from playing, but it also shuts off some hand traps, which are your only defense against the deck.
Shifter is the real problem here.

And yet Ryzeal has clear chokepoints and its Board is easier to break
Tbh I don’t really think maliss is the issue, I think the problem are all these rampant unchecked engines, like kash, bystial, and bringing back the sky striker cards was just incorrect since that was one of the other problems with striker back then…just a generic engine.
The game really needs to dial back on generic engines
Thanks for the shoutout at 1:12 . I have been much much more active on reddit recently arguing for and against multiple problems with both the Yugioh and Lorcana formats.
Spicy take: if top decks of any format run double digit amount of handtraps in their main deck, it's a bad format
Gonna be a while before I can take you seriously again after watching this not gonna lie.
I know professional players always find the ways to push and break decks, but as someone casual who enjoys playing pure decks, I don't mind one card combos. I enjoy when konami makes decks that have enough consistency to actually be played pure.
I think maliss is okay. I actually like the playstyle and it has waaay more chokepoints than snake eyes
If I can be honest? If Maliss didn't exist, this video would be same tone but about Ryzel.
Maybe for casuals, but Jesse is actually knowledgeable enough to understand what makes decks different from each other outside of their place on the tier list.
@@WarpedByTheNHKis Jesse's opinion the only one that matters?
Blud looks completely done with life in the thumbnail.
Lancea needs to be banned!
agreed
Absolutely agree. When pro players complain, they get rogue decks hits on the banlist. I wish they put more energy into opposing real meta threats.
So we dont like the combo deck that looses to one handtrap and are happy about the 9th maxx c for 80 $ a piece? (slight sarcasm)
Maybe it's because I'm playing maliss myself, but I personally like the mirror. THe board feels breakable, depending on the nonengine they drew alongside it. And depending on the decklist you can weaken the endboard with handtraps. Or use handtraps like ash and belle as breakers
I am actually enjoying this format
Terahertz is much more broken and unbreakable...
If you're playing Tenpai. 😂
Hi jesse, i was wondering if you could help me out? What is the most powerful yugioh deck you can create ( band cards also)?
I am a floo player and I gotta say this format is a breath of fresh air. I love the match ups against ryzeal and Maliss, as it turns into a grind game everytime where last format it was “did I draw 2 breakers?” I enjoy this format.
Very uncommon Jesse L
Maliss having only 3 main deck monsters vs ryzeal with like 5 main deck names and somehow maliss is a problem? Ryzeal has 20% more regional wins and tops iver maliss
You are the ONLY one enjoying fs🤦♂️ everybody sick and Tired of it, Same With ryzeal. Maliss is just overplayed.
I think the problem with this is like, when a maliss deck cost less than a 3 engraver + tract FS engine you see the problem with diversity in the format, also ryzeal is double ur than maliss, double the price, PAIR BOTH WITH AND VOALA!
so thats wy there is more towards the ´cheap´ deck that is not also cheap if you add into other engines or impulse, the problem lies with commnuity wanna see more of these decks but there is not enough cards for everyone play these, price stuff all over
Most ryzeal FS stuff representation really happening only in large tournaments thats expected
Do take note maliss might fall on track after SUDA because ecclipse twins + FS is so busted that they might trow maliss to a tier 1.5 deck, their endboard is not enough with teraherz anymore
Btw this is a Tier 0 format again, FS is a Tier 0 engine/deck masking into ryzeal, tenpai, and other stuff even maliss, and its beccoming, problematic same reason you comment on SE problem, you deal with witch, ash now you deal with FS and thats also happening in Ryzeal FS variances and others too.
If there are no turn skips malliss wins every game by a dice roll
I dont really get it you say Maliss has consistency issues, a hard counter in lancea, fuwalos hurts it as well as the new charmy, but at
the same time you say handtraps dont matter against it
how can it be both?
I feel Ryzeal FS is way worse
There is no hard counter cause with the new eclipse card even board breakers dont matter anymore against the deck tho I gotta add I enjoy both deck just wish eclipse wasn’t printed as it took away ryzeals weakness
@@Lundrity FS Ryzeal just about ignores hand traps as well, so i feel like the discussion is a little strange against Maliss.
Banlist needs to hit fiendsmith already
true we cant ignore fiendsmith being in evry single deck and you cant hadtrap them because 2 bodies = full FS combo
I really don't think fiendsmith is an issue top decks still gonna top but it gives rouge decks and tier 2 a bit of an extra help
@@debbachedebbache5182 Problem is those cards are what helps rouge bridge into fiendsmith.
Banishing white binder after they use the Banish to SS effect hurts, and you bassically put them on ransom and crypter
Just like ryzeal nib plus handtrap hurts. Sure, they can play through nib depending where you nib them, but they are ending on a weak board (unlike snake eyes)
And that just a few points from the top of my head
idk from all the db grinder videos im seeing Maliss just looks pretty meh. Sure its end board is hard to break when it wins the die roll but its just not good at going second. Either way I think Fiendsmith is a significantly bigger issue for the current format than Maliss. Everyone just throws it into every deck and it spits out your choice of two really good boss monsters and its infinite follow up.
Your first mistake is watching DBgrinder
I honestly think it depends on your local metagame , my area for example has way more FS Ryzeal and pure Ryzeal players than anything. The few Maliss players we have do good but the deck isnt op imo , FS Ryzeal seems to be way more oppressive than Maliss.
I’m one of those people that got Maliss fully aware of its weakness. I got them over ryzeal cuz I think they look cool and I have thid copium they will get way better 2nd wave of support than ryzeal.
Every Maliss player deserved to get hit with Lancea in every duel
It creates non games, meaning, going first it makes an ftk board or bust, post side you either get shifter or you lancea them.
NGL the pace is funner now but Maliss and Ryzeal being so sticky and the best end of midrange just gives us the illusion of a healthy format, especially when you gotta be on Lancea/Shifter siding. Oh boy I'm excited to see Maliss Ryzeal Fiendsmith matchups and mirrors all day
Easy...
Just Ban Engraver.
It's not Maliss that's the problem here, it's Terahertz and Shifter. The first because it makes it feel like every other blasted Cyberse pile, the second because of all the stuff it shuts off while still allowing them to do enough to be a threat.
I still have issues interrupting malice properly. I don't know the right spot to imperm or veiler
Tcg players and crying. Name a better duo
Just ban Shifter...
For me, Maliss is a little bit annoying. They either pass to one handtrap or play through four.
The strategy of cyberse is to combo until you pass out from boredom.
see i agree, butni want us to take it further. ryzeal is also an offender of "any engine piece is full combo". its still too much
Truthfully this is the first time I have enjoyed modern yugioh in a long time.
Yugioh will never be fixed
Yugioh players:
Cyberse pile: yeah this is fine not problem
Pen pile: EWWE GROSS BAN IT, GET IT AWAY!!!
@@aka_Ingmar on that note I my biggest problem with tempi and gimmick puppets is the field spells as far as I’m concerned that’s the only problem card I don’t mind ftk decks as long as they don’t have a way of stopping me from interacting
the average OCG player: I've told you
same ol bs about "deck I like and play = good for the game (despite being much stronger than the other one and bordering tier 0 status) deck I dont like = bad for the game"
I actually love this format and maliss. Maliss bystial or ss is alot more fun and interactive than fiendsmith ryzeal with 15+ hand traps
Perfectly timed video lmao, this is exactly how I felt losing to Malice at a regional yesterday because I lost die roll didn't see a single hand trap games 1 and 3. When I went first I get nibbed and veilered and he still scooped at one detonator. smh.
Just wait until the Blue-Eyes White Dragon comes out. The world will be completely different. It's coming soon.
I hate how do many Cyberse extenders are in the Extra Deck
What is the Maliss Deck based on fluff and theming things?
From what I remember, malware and Alice in wonderlands
Not gonna lie, this is the only player that I’ve seen that says they don’t like maliss. I feel like that deck is not even problem
Jesse hated Spright but it's okay with Ryzeal??? They are literally the same deck but with 2 more stars
I just played a Columbus Regional on the 11th 9 rounds 7 of them was against Maliss
Being better than POTE, Kashtira, and Fire 2024 doesn't mean the format is good.
YGO has been plagued by 8 month long unfun formats with 2 month breathers since 2020.
Am I the only person not having a problem with Maliss? Idk maybe the Maliss players I'm up against are just really bad
I'm first! Also, day 32 of asking for T.G. to be meta
They lock themselves too much, they need better T.G. synchros that have a better payoff for such a big investment
TG sadly just doesn`t have a good pay off
