    That is how I have always described my Lion Knight’s Castle. As the lego castle you remember. Because when I look at actual old sets they are lacking, but this castle makes you see it through kid eyes. Very cool.

    I'm 62, father of three young adults, empty nester living alone (with dog) -- struggling with health...semi-retired psychotherapist (MSW) with a deep interest in psychology, sociology, history. I appreciate your insights that touch on the social significance of Lego and collectibles. "Nostalgia" is a very extensive and deeply-rooted phenomenon: memory, loss, longing. Nowadays Lego is using both legitimate and predatory marketing tactics with consumers. Proceed with caution. Caveat emptor.

      👍 lego is going too far with this lately… i would call it greedy. life is not here to collect plastic items and having them laying on shelf… lego should be for kids to play and relive their stories or build their own inventions…

    You could look at this as TLG tapping into the nostalgia factor amongst Lego fans. You could also look at this as TLG listening to its fans who have asked for new Blacktron sets for decades. You may say that that is the same thing with a different spin. And my reply would be: exactly.
    1:58 PS, these minifigs are better than the ones we got back in the day because they include backprinting.

    I am a Star Wars fan, but a large Death Star will essentially be a huge grey ball. I loved the 75375 midi-scale Millenium Falcon beacuse of the moderate pricing the more practical display size and because I think that scale works really well.
    When it comes to the Blacktron Renegade...well nostalgia kicks in very hard, because that was the era when I was most into LEGO Space as a kid and like with the 10305 castle this factor is very powerful even if modern Icons models are more spectacular and impressive.

    And that's the perfect equation right? Staying true to original and giving us a modern building experience. I was only a baby when Blackthorn came out... so I don't have much of a pull for it.. but want it nonetheless. That being said... nostalgia is a powerful weapon... which I hope they keep using it!

    Yes, we would buy it if they just released the original sets.

    I wouldn't put too much faith in Brickset reviews, as the samples are often very small, frequently only a couple dozen reviews.

    More like pick up 5+ copies. The Renegade seems that good. 1 for base mode, 1 for Aliennator, 2 or 3 to combine (you can actually put the fuselage back to back to back )

    I am 45. I ain’t a Starwars fan. I only buy Starwars sets for parts when they go on sale. I will buy two Blacktron sets. However, I will only buy it when it goes on sale (at least 20% off).

    Well, in Canada, the Millenium Falcon is currently $1,000+ and seems to be selling ok. Still prices out a lot of people though. Especially if you are unfortunate enough to have a 13% sales tax added on top of it :(

      Americans so often forget the rest of the world exists :( And even here in the US, it's not even really news that Lego plans to make a $1000 set. That was inevitable as they keep pivoting away from being purely a kids' creativity toy to a luxury adult collectible. That's rather sad, and I've seen and more and more fans jumping ship, either turning to other brands or leaving the hobby entirely.

    Classic space wasn't part of my childhood, so there's no nostalgia factor for me with the Renegade. The Death Star is is dilemma for me because I have always wanted a LEGO death star, but one closer to the 2005 version than the 2008 or 2016 versions. However, I have never bought a UCS set because I am happy with smaller scale models and the UCS sets aren't worth the extra cost for me. I passed on the $850 UCS AT-AT, my favorite Star Wars vehicle, so I could pass on the $1000 Death Star.

    $1000 Death Star…I’m guessing 800-900 pieces, one minifig, a Darth Vader holding a cafeteria tray (any Eddie Izzard fans?).
    Okay, jokes out of the way, I have said before the only way I’ll buy a $1000 Lego set is if it comes with $700 in the box. I’ve come to terms with the fact in life that you’re going to like and want way more stuff than you’ll ever be able to have. I accept that. There are beautiful works of art, lustworthy cars, etc., but I’ve learned to live with the fact that I’m probably never going to own an original Lichtenstein or a 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage coupe and that’s okay. I can live without a $1000 Death Star, even though I love both Star Wars and Lego sets.
    As for the Blacktron, I actually have no nostalgia for this one; I never had the original sets nor new they existed until I saw the GWP and I promptly forgot that existed until the Renegade was announced. But, I dig asymmetry and the black coloring is cool, so I will probably pick one up if it gets down to like $70-80 at some point. If not, hey, I can live without that too.
    Nostalgia is fine-it can be taken too far, sure, but so can most things. It’s the GWP scheme that really sticks in my side, if I’m honest.

    I am immune to both of these as they hold no nostalgia for me. I was about 11/12 when Star Wars came out and was a big fan (use to own all the original figures and such). But these overpriced sets are just not worth it for my budget.

    It’s a shame Lego didn’t hold the renegade to the same standard as recent remakes. All of the other remake sets added tons of new design elements and features. My disappointment is immeasurable.

      Lego has become too big to bring out innovative stuff. Atleast not as much.
      Most of it is just slapping IP labels of pop culture on trashy stuff.
      The Technic line has become so bad now.
      I am moving away from Lego. Cada is making impressive stuff, by way of licensing the MOC builds.

    • @MichaeldeSousaCruz
      @MichaeldeSousaCruz 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ I don’t know about the bigness of Lego, but I could actually give two shits about the sets themselves. I’m an AHOL who MOCs. I’m interested in pieces themselves, not the set, and I’ll do the innovating if I feel like it. I have no interest in any other brick line. I build one theme.

    • @anujmchitale
      @anujmchitale 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@MichaeldeSousaCruz Which theme do you build?
      All of my Technic stuff has been bought for parts as well. Not that I am able to allot time for MOCs. Would choose the sets that had the unique parts.
      Now I would be just ordering the parts from Cada. Many parts have the exact same quality without the Lego tax.

      @ I build Fantasy/Castle villages. But I can’t stand grey walls nor Bored of the Rings.
      Technic pieces always interest me!
      I’m just sticking with Lego. Don’t want to mix up bricks from different companies. I trade in the market so I have access to unlimited funds. Money is not an issue for me, just limited on time.
