Ever since the queen of soul passed, I have been asked a lot of questions about pancreatic cancer. What are the symptoms? How do you know if you have pancreatic cancer? Should you be screened? Over the next several minutes, I will give an overview of pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The pancreas is about six to eight inches long and about two inches wide, and it extends from the head of the pancreas, which is on the right side of the abdomen, connected to the small intestine, near the gallbladder and the liver, and the pancreas extends to the tail of the pancreas, which is more on the left side of the abdomen.
The pancreas is the organ that's responsible for producing certain hormones such as insulin, which regulates your blood sugar. The pancreas also produces certain digestive enzymes or digestive juices, which help us to digest fat.
There are two types of pancreatic cancer. One, which comes from the endocrine glands or the hormone-producing cells such as an insulinoma. The other type of pancreatic cancer comes from the exocrine glands or from the pancreatic ducts, and this exocrine gland pancreatic cancer is the most common type of pancreatic cancer.
What are the symptoms of pancreatic cancer? One is weight loss. Patients with pancreatic cancer often have early satiety, meaning they get full quickly off of just small amounts of food, or they may just lose their appetites altogether. Another symptom, abdominal pain. Patients often have a dull, aching abdominal pain in the central upper abdomen, and it often radiates to the back.
How can you be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer? If you have any of the symptoms I described, it is important that you consult your physician as soon as possible. Your physician will do a complete history and physical, and they will likely do some imaging studies such as an ultrasound of the pancreas or a CT, computed tomography, of the pancreas or a test called an ERCP, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. If they are suspicious or if they see a mass that looks like pancreatic cancer, then they may do a biopsy, which is when they have a physician to take a small sample of the mass, and a pathologist is another type of physician who will look at that and determine if it is or if it isn't pancreatic cancer.
The treatment for pancreatic cancer. The treatment really depends on the staging. If the cancer is caught early, there's a chance that you can have surgery or surgical removal of the cancer. and patients often will have an adjuvant therapy, which means they will receive chemotherapy and/or radiation, especially if the pancreatic cancer has spread. In cases of stage four or metastatic pancreatic cancer, a lot of those patients will also receive chemotherapy. However, that chemotherapy is usually just to shrink the tumor or to help to decrease the symptoms of the tumor. Stage four pancreatic cancer is usually not curable.
So what are the risk factors for pancreatic cancer? Well, five to 10 percent of patients who have pancreatic cancer also have family members with pancreatic cancer. So, we do believe that there is some hereditary component.
This ends my overview of pancreatic cancer symptoms, signs, and risk factors. I want you to take care of yourselves, and if you have any of the symptoms that I described, please consult your physician immediately. Those symptoms are weight loss, abdominal pain, jaundice. Also, make sure that you prioritize yourself. Take care of you. As always, strive to live your healthiest, happiest life.

Thank you, Doctor. I was diagnosed with PanCan in January 2018. Fortunately, it was caught at stage 1A, and I received the Whipple surgery to remove the cancer. I followed up with 6 months of chemotherapy. Thank God, my CA19-9 test have remained normal. Of course I have to be tested every 4 months, but thanks be to God, I'm still alive and kicking.

I lost my brother to this awful disease 5 yrs. ago. He lived for 3 yrs post-diagnosis. He lived every minute of his remaining days, either with the family or on his Harley. He motivated me to become an advocate with the PanCan network. We need more money for research & earlier diagnosis methods, as well as more treatment options. Please donate if you can during the many activities that Pan Can holds every year. Become an advocate!

My friend died from pancreatic cancer which spread to the liver and bile duct three years ago and all these symptoms she experienced, along with some terrible agonizing pains. .Im wondering if boiling and drinking a lot of different types of herbal teas, could cause toxicity of the liver, because I know she always drink those herbal leaves and roots.

You are sitting down and your camera view stops across your chest doctor. So wherever you are gesturing around your side, your back, and your abdominal area cannot be seen. Your camera view blocks your arms off at the armpits.
Standing up during this presentation, or using a picture or diagram to illustrate the abdominal and back areas of pain, signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer would be helpful in a follow up video presentation.
Thank you so much for sharing. This important information can help save lives.

My uncle recently passed away last month from pancreatic cancer, he was 68. One of the first symptoms was that he had a hard time swallowing food, then once he did swallow the food, his stomach would hurt, they thought it was some sort of indigestion, pills weren’t working. He also had back pain in the beginning, weight loss, loss of appetite, then came the color change, yellow skin, his eyes also, that’s when the doctors started digging deeper for answers, but unfortunately they diagnosed it too late in early November, by that time it had spread to other organs already, pretty much metastatic, and he passed late December. He was finally looking forward to retirement, few months shy of his first retirement check, he even turned in all of the paper work. Horrible disease, I don’t wish it on anyone!

Thanks Dr.Frita, the reason that I watched your video was Ed Nestor of the Chesterfield Missouri police just passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. He was a really nice person and his death caught me by surprise.
I had no idea that he even had cancer. And boom just like that he was gone. Again another reason I watched your video was to gain understanding and try to learn from Ed’s tragedy. Hopefully someday we might be able to eradicate cancer.

Please turn to Jesus He loves you very much, He is the God of miracles, i was ill for a long time, but the doctors couldn't really help me, i don't blame them there was only so much that they could of done for me, Then Jesus gave me a miracle and healed me, There is Hope in Jesus, God has done amazing things in my life and in the life's of people i know and love, He can do the same for you and yours, When you need Him call on Him, The bible tells us in Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, He is the God of comfort and will be there for you when you call on Him, God saved someone i love from an illness leading to death, There is nothing impossible to God, Its as simple as asking Jesus into your heart and life to be your personal Lord and Savior, Confess your sins to Jesus and Jesus will forgive you, And if you truly seek Him Jesus will answer you, i know this because He answered me when i called out to Him,

Thank you for a strait forward explanation. My sister in law died of Pancreatic Cancer some years ago. I knew the symptoms and worried when my husband started showing the same symptoms. Unfortunately he had a blind trust in his doctor and although the symptoms were manifest he simply prescribed "another pill for that" for at least three years. It was only when the bile duct was completely closed that we got him to the ER. A splendid surgeon cleared the bile duct and put in a stent. My husband is now undergoing chemo which is only meant to shrink the tumor as you said. Anyone who has any of the symptoms you describe should go to their doctor immediately and if he/she won't take it seriously enough to get scans etc.. then find another doctor.

My grandmother died from being misdiagnosed of hypertension and smiled like orange juice. By the time she couldn't pass stools or eat solid food then the hospital says is 4 stage pancreatic cancer spreading to her other like stomach and brain. She was 82yrs and the hospital said there's nothing they could do to safe her life as it would be a waste of resources😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

My mother passed away in 2001 of Pancreatic Cancer. She was 73 years old,but had complained for a year of back pain, she was a diabetic for at least 35 years. It was confirmed Pacreatic Cancer, when she became jaundice and from there given only months to live. The Cancer was detected in July, she passed away in November. The doctors removed the tumor and realized that it had spread to her liver. The shock, pain, was indescribable. This is a horrific, and described by doctors as being one of the more painful Cancers.I have been told,by my doctors,to be tested yearly, now that I am 53,due to the possibility of a hereditary gene. This saddens me,to hear how prevalent, this Cancer type has become, and pray more research ,and with modern technology, takes the word Cancer out of our vocabulary .

Thought possibly a kidney stone so she ordered a CT. that showed a lesion on my pancreas. I do not have any of the major contributing factor. #1 is smoking. I have never been a smoker. The only thing is I am overweight. I have surgery next Friday Jan 31, 2020. Was confirmed by a PET scan.

It would be helpful for you to gather symptom information from patients who were diagnosed early and share that information, because I did not have some of the symptoms you mentioned. I was diagnosed with Stage 1B. I had bloating, stomach and back pain, severe night sweats, floating and softened stool, fatigue , among other symptoms. I did not have weight loss, jaundice, or loss of appetite. I was not taken seriously, and had to keep going back and bugging my doctor. She finally relented and ordered a CAT scan, followed by an endoscopic MRI. Thank God! I am only two years out, and still go to the oncologist every 3 months, as well as a CAT scan at he same time. Doctors need to listen to the patients better, then perhaps we won’t have so many individuals having stage 3 or 4 PC!

I have had chronic pancreatitis for about 10 years now, at first I thought it was a stomach ulcer. I went to the ER when the pain got so severe that I just wanted to die. I got ultrasound, CT scans, endoscopy is done lab test bloodwork, everything came out to be normal. Yet the doctor recommends getting my gallbladder removed to see if it will help relieve my pancreatitis. I’m not sure what to do because The doctor said removing my gallbladder may or may not work given the fact that they don’t see anything abnormal with all the testing they did. But the doctor said sometimes there’s tiny gallstones that the tests don’t pick up. My pancreas enzymes are elevated and I get flareups very frequently with the most random things like eating grapes or laying down too long, red meat, one of the huge factors that flares up my pancreatic attacks are stress. I don’t have a gallbladder symptoms I don’t have a oily bowel movements, I don’t have flareups after fatty foods, I don’t have jaundice. I’m afraid of chronic pancreatitis that it will damage and overtime and kill off part of my pancreas and lead to pancreatica cancer. What should I do, should I remove my gallbladder?

The scariest thing about something like this is that many symptoms like abdominal pain are so ambiguous that they could be almost anything. I get a lot of cramping because of IBS, related to colon surgery many years ago. I was in the hospital 5 days with severe diarrhea and the word "pancreas" was never mentioned. X-ray, CT-scan, upper and lower GI. Nothing. At first, I would go to urgent care every time I had the slightest stomachache, and never anything came of it. So what are you supposed to do, live at the doctors office Vigilance is always good, but if I went to the doctor every time I felt something "wasn't right" they'd stop charging me co-pays and start charging me rent! So what's the answer, full body scans twice a year? They never even look for something like pancan unless they're 95% sure you have it, so much of it never gets diagnosed. At some point you have to live your life and not worry every other day if you have a fatal disease. I could have a fatal car accident tomorrow and watching videos like this for a hypochondriac like me is even worse than googling symptoms because it'll plant a seed in my head, "What if I have it?" and then even worse, I'll start psychosomatically feeling phantom symptoms.
I need to stop watching videos like this and just be vigilant without being obsessive.
