This body set has been one I have been looking forward to. Tamiya really does make the best polycarbonate RC bodies and this is no exception. The scale and detail levels are lovely but the big question is, what chassis to put this beauty on?

When you showed the first few shots of the RC car I thought that was just part of the footage of the real one!

You talked about a sticker on the rear wing.
How about a small RC Kicks decal in a dark carbon fiber on the rear wing? Subdued, understated just visible against the black wing. Epic job on that body. You can stop being nervous and calling yourself a amateur on the bodywork now. You'll still have good days and bad in the "booth" but you have arrived.

You did a fantastic job on the body. You have a lot of patience. Your explanation of the choices you made and where the decals are a pain will help those who build one. Keep up the good work.
Man, that looks sweeeeeeeeeet...so much so that I've GOT to get one (not the TT-02 kit, just the complete body package (once available, which is supposedly next month)).
Regarding your "separate" carbon fiber idea, you added an image in the lower right corner...but, forgot to include the Tamiya part number. So, to help anyone interested in trying this, know that Tamiya actually has several options...and, here are the part numbers:
12679 - Carbon Pattern Decal Set, Plain Weave/Fine
12680 - Carbon Pattern Decal Set, Plain Weave/Extra Fine
12681 - Carbon Pattern Decal Set, Twill Weave/Fine
12682 - Carbon Pattern Decal Set, Twill Weave/Extra Fine

Just want to commend you on a really nice paintjob(with stickering etc). Also, going with the copper instead of a garish lime green, top choise. It looks a lot better than the bland box art too. Top job.

@@RCKickschannel I brought a GT40 body just because I love the way it looks but I have no idea how to complete it well I have an idea but I don't think I can make it look nice being that I have never painted a body. Financially strapped right now what would be a good drivetrain in the future?

Very nice! I like the paint job and your perseverance throughout the build, masking, painting, and stickers. I stayed away from kits that have many stickers after building the Buggyra Fat Fox race truck lol. 🚚 Nice job Kicks!

Superb colour much better than white, inside you could always paint the driver with a yellow helmet as senna had ??👍👍
Great job! My daughter is a massive McLaren fan and now I’ve seen one built up I decided to order one. Just getting back in to RC so may leave it a little while until I brush up my spraying & masking skills a little

It’s just taking your time and making mistakes until you find little ways that work. I’m still struggling with painting drivers myself.

Beautiful job Gav! Whenever I have 2 pieces of masking tape overlapping I get a little sliver of paint bleeding underneath, no matter how well I've rubbed it down. How do you stop that from happening?
Yes it does happen and can be a real pain when it’s a colour that doesn’t show up until you paint the second colour. Sometimes you can use a clear plastic bag and cut it open to put over the top and stick down as a second layer after the tape. If I get any ghosting I remove it with Tamiya’s polycarbonate clearer bit sometimes you can miss it. If that happens I cut back the area and then blow it back in.
This is an add-on to my original comment...but, instead of replying to my own/original comment, I felt this should be posted separately.
Originally, I was going to put this body on my competition-upgraded TT-02 chassis...but, since Gavin "suggested" the TC-01 chassis as a 'compliment' to the McLaren body, I am now "specing out" a full-on TC-01 build parts list (mostly Tamiya Hop-Up, but will see what else is available, such as parts from Yeah Racing, FasTrax, etc). However, as I haven't yet purchased the TC-01, I'm interested in knowing what other competitive, but relatively inexpensive, Tamiya chassis kits people would suggest/recommend. Not looking to build a "world class" race vehicles...looking more to build something that can definitely "keep up", is still fun to drive, and for which the build-up would be on the relatively-inexpensive side (ie. same approximate price range as a fully hopped-up TC-01 or TT-02). Suggestions?

No unfortunately not. I really want a resin printer but I don’t have a work shop so the fumes would be an issue plus space is super limited.
I have just ordered this body and I do not understand why you cant just mask the black parts and do it last? It seems like far less work. Could you please enlighten me before I get it?
the detail line you've added at the back, it's a mould line, not a shutline on the car. Senna doesn't have an opening engine cover
100% correct Darren, I did it as it looks like a rear clam and it hides the line
@@RCKickschannel Reading this back I think maybe I was a bit picky considering the amazing job you did on the detail of this kit! Those mould lines are a bit annoying so I can see why you did it. I have some of that detailing tape myself, 0.3 mm and it always looks a bit too 'harsh'. Shame they can't 'feather' the edges or make it slightly transparent.

@@RCKickschannel definitely agree with you on the windscreen wiper thing. 3d detail in 2d stickers rarely works though those blue fins in the bumper aren't so bad
@@darrenwheatley6763 I did think about removing the blue from the sticker but that kind of works OK. Other 3D things really just don’t so it’s better to leave them out so people can add them from aftermarket offerings.
What is the maximum speed ?
That’s not how RC works as you can fit different motor power and gearing that change the speed. A TT02 chassis will do 30-55mph max ish

Chassis 100% yes, body No way.
dam tamiya and there wrong offset wheels , 2 mm that's all I'm asking. can't stand it when the wheels sit inside the shell. is there enough axel stub to get a 7mm wide hex on there.
Yes you can get longer hub axles but I find MST adjustable offset rims work even better as you can dial the offset to exactly what you want.
That's alot of tape...Have you considered liquid mask..?
Yes, but when you factor in drying time and two coats, by the time it’s dry I’m done with the tape. Obviously some paint jobs are impossible to do with tape.
