- Yep! It's a real thing guys! I started writing the Shattered Stars saga years ago with the dream of some day being able to take it to animation...and now it's HAPPENING!

I don't know if anyone has said this but your art style especially for this animation series reminds me of "Cow of the wild" by Tribbleofdoom and I love it! I cannot wait to see how this turns out!
Well there may be some COTW inspiration in here :D it's one of my favorite web series, not gonna lie!

This made me feel nostalgic for some reason
The whole project is kinda coming from a place of nostalgia for me, probably because I grew up loving the animated wolf/cat/dogs series on TH-cam and always wished to make one myself. I feel like the story is sorta a throwback to 2012 in some ways but with a more "modern" flare to the digital drawing and animation tools available to freelancers today

I was waiting for this announcement! I'll definitely audition for the voice acting call. Also reading the description I saw you've been writing the story for years, compliments for the patience, a good story always takes a long time to be written (I write as an hobby and I'd like to make it a job someday, so I know a bit about writing).

AYO, okay this sounds like it will be **very** good. Especially from the amount of effort you're putting into per-production already. I am excited to see the end result, tho take as much time as you need, especially if you are doing frame by frame that will take quite a bit.
I think your editor did reply in my comments asking me about voice acting, though I completely forgot about it until now, and also I am not really interested in voice acting. Hope you find suitable people tho

You can totally stick around if you want to watch wolves hunting wolves lol. There tends to be a decent amount of multi character conflicts resulting in just character at the end.

There will be a voice acting casting call if that's what you mean! (I'm not sure what vc stands for actually 😅). I made this video before I started working on the casting call which is why it wasn't mentioned, but as of the moment of me writing this a casting call for episode 1 is in the works

It's the same for me. :) Writing a story because it's the story we want to read it's actually pretty common. Most writers start out this way.

Hello! I've never really tried out for voice acting but I have done little projects on my channel that I've done!
I know I'm really good a making high pitched voices and would love to try and voice act for the show!

I was thinking about that! I teamed up with some other creative people I know to get a short "theme" for the series which I'd like to animate a music video to, but then again any time I get to work on this project usually goes straight to actually moving forward with the story, so maybe I will go ahead and post the song as is. I also thought it might be cool to have a public playlist of the content-ID'd music we use from other creators who allow reuse, which would give them a little shoutout too.

Im making a story myself, so i was really frightened when this randomly appeared into my recommendations-
This basically gave me inspiration to keep my own story going. I thank you

@@sleepingfire Yeah! I'd be happy to tell you about it, although I'd prefer usually telling this with folks on Discord and such.
I am still working on the story and such, and I actually just did a prologue to have a better idea of it all..
But-
It's a story about an orphaned wolf and his friends trying to stop a war from breaking out between two packs(kingdoms). He has to uncover the start and solution of how to bring peace back to the lands again.
He receives a message from a God within his dreams, which guides him on his journey as he is the driving force to ending this deadly war between those he loves.

Sounds like this could be interesting! I'm kinda curious how he's connected to the war and how he might stop it. Go for it and good luck! Are you planning to make it into a book, webcomic, etc.?

Sounds cool!! Although I thought I might ask if you're aware that you can make and publish webcomics for free? There's free quality digital art software out there and free places to publish & build a fanbase (like Webtoons, for instance). Costs nothing but your time. Of course produce the story in whichever format you are passionate about and enjoy it! But since you mentioned needing 'enough money' for a webcomic I thought I might see if you're aware of the possibilities!

Just found you, because I'm trying to animate wolves myself. Taking a break from racking my brain on trying to get cats correctly, and I suddenly thought last night about Graystar from feels like decades ago, when I tried a short story of Warriors Wolves. So, I'm trying to do some wolves. I think I'm okay with some stuff. Love your animation so far, though.

@@sleepingfire Thanks! I always upload when I’m done. I did a tryout upload of what I have, which you can watch on my channel. It’s not colored in, but I think it turned out okay. I do a lot of fandom music videos from supernatural and other related vids to Warriors cats. I also upload Sims vids of me playing Sims 4. Animation is sorta on and off, though. My tablet needs a new pen, so I might need to switch back to my pen tablet instead of my screen tablet or my desktop mouse. But I don’t want to replace the pen, because I’m getting a 2-in-1 laptop that’ll work great for animation and will come with its own pen. Plus when you’re in your 30’s, you don’t have the hands to animate hours on end anymore. I wish I would’ve taken up animation when I was younger. Lol. I also have a work in progress Graystripe/Silverstream animation. It’s taking time, because as I’m new with animations, even though I grew up with cats, I’m having difficulty learning long-haired cats for Graystripe.
YO.....you can draw with a desktop mouse!? Welcome to the club of LEGENDS. Lol! I actually worked on a 2-in-1 laptop for a few years myself and it was very handy! The only thing I wasn't so fond of was that the computer screen on mine was slick glass and the pen tip had no grip at all on the screen, so it was hard to paint in precise areas, but it still waaaayyyy beat drawing with my finger on my laptop touch pad which I actually did for about 4 years before I got the 2-in-1. Oh and yes long hair can be a pain to animate sometimes 😅 Personally I find it helps if you first sketch out the mechanics of the floofy animal's body movement, then go back and sketch in things that flow (like tails and long floof) over the top and make sure they flow correctly with the body movement. Then when you draw your line art, the character as a whole will move with an appealing flow. I'll check out your TH-cam channel. Keep up the good work!
@@sleepingfire Thanks! I’ve always been a drawer instead of sketcher, so my brain forgets about the sketching part I was taught in high school with art class. Sketching was never a fun time for me and just wanted to skip to drawing. Thanks for the tips! I have an animation tablet but trying not to use it much as the pen needs replaced. I’m waiting on the 2 in 1 laptop.

YAY! i’m so excited but I have a question how do you make an animated series? I want to make one so bad, but I’m not that good at animating, and I am not really impressed by my drawing skills.
Personally, I say start with a story. The story is what will keep people watching. I've gone through quite a few web series that I enjoyed even though the art wasn't all that impressive - it was the *story* that kept me reading/watching. A story and characters that you are passionate about yourself will give *you* the motivation to keep working on your series years down the road. I recommend planning out your story (to some level) from beginning to end before you start production. While you're making the story, practice your drawing/animation skills. I learned a lot myself from Aaron Blaise's courses on drawing and animating digitally, and asking other TH-cam animators how they make their stuff. Have you ever tried joining a MAP (multi animator project)? They're a great place to meet other animators all over the skill level board. Share your MAP parts on your channel and start growing an audience for your animation. Perhaps make an animated short with a concept from your series to get people curious about your project. (And don't be afraid if your channel growth is small at first. It took a few months for my videos to start gaining some traction). These were the first steps that I took, but don't be afraid to be creative and try something different! Blessings to your creative journey!
@@sleepingfire ty so much ever since I was young, I had a story in my head of wolves and magic but when I finally made a decision to try to animate it, I didn’t know where to start my friend helped me with the script for the prologue but I still was more focused on improving my art skill but thank you. Sometimes I do need to realize that art isn’t the only key for a great story. Thank you a lot though!

I don't mean this in any negative way and I hope it doesn't come off like it, I'm just genuinely curious because I see it a lot with other artists and myself:
Have you drawn cats/feline creatures a lot? In some of the visuals I could see a.... cat-ness (lol) in some of the shapes/anatomy. I just find it super interesting and fun how drawing certain creatures might affect people's style when drawing something other than what they might be used to. This is my first time seeing anything from your channel, so I thought I'd ask.
Also, this looks super awesome! I've wanted to do something like this for a while myself, butdefinitely won't for a while yet. I would make things too difficult for myself because I love drawing a lot of details and/or complex designs on my characters, and I know I would totally fall into habit instead of forcing myself to simplify haha!
Haha yes, cats were the first four legged animals I started drawing characterized. Dogs and cats are kinda my "second language" in art, actually whales and dolphins were the first animals I mastered drawing. I think my more recent wolves have a more solid "canine" look in the anatomy, but honestly I can still see the cat-like traits a bit as well lol. I don't really try to "force" my wolf art style into looking a certain way, I just flow with what my mind can see, what has an appealing flow to me. A lot of people note that my doggos have a strong cow of the wild/my pride art style vibe and I can see that too XD Also I totally feel ya on the character design aspect. You'll probably notice most of my primary characters have simple designs, usually just two fur colors and simple markings, for the sole purpose of being easier to draw over and over again in an animation sequence. A lot of our "side characters" have more detailed designs just cuz they're not on screen much, so I don't have to draw them often haha

Nice! I think I mostly saw the cat in the 1:50 clip, and it honestly adds to the scene. And yeah, anatomy isn't super strict anyway, a lot of the time some looseness and stylization just makes it better and more distinctly your own. I've always drawn mostly dogs/wolves, cats, horses and the occasional dragon or bird. Mostly canines because my family has always owned dogs. Also the fact you drew sea creatures is pretty cool to me, I don't really see or hear about people drawing them very much. Neat!
I think my style also used to be influenced by cow of the wild, but I eventually mixed in some other stuff I thought was cool and now my style is very different lol... it's a kind of semi-realistic to realistic cartoony/anime/web comic style nowadays. My Pride made me draw a lot of lions though, and I think I improved with my cats because of it. I did definitely take some inspiration from the awesome anatomy in the series though. Helped that I already had a fairly established style, too. It's honestly crazy to me how much my style has improved and changed in just about 2-3 years.
Simple characters are much better for animation, especially since you don't have a huuuge team (unless you've trapped a bunch of animators in your basement lol) like bigger studios and companies. Also means you'll have less itty bitty details that could get forgotten by accident.

@sudenkieppi oh LOL I know why that clip has cat vibes, I remember I made it while going through one of Aaron Blaise's tutorials, where I drew alongside his video lesson where he was animating a lion walk cycle. I was referencing his lion drawings to learn the for legged walk cycle 😂 Also same, now that I'm spending a lot of time around German Shepherds irl, I feel like watching them has greatly improved my wolf art. I feel like I too have now landed in a sorta anime-ish cotw-inspired style, somewhere in the middle between Disney-style expressiveness and raw wild canine lol. Would love to check out your art if you have it shared somewhere!

I see, that makes sense lol! I'll have to check out Aaron Blaise if I ever decide to animate something. Honestly I like your style a lot. Since it's kinda inspired by the stuff I used to watch when I was younger (I can't believe cotw is fairly old now... okay actually it was already a few years old when I first watched it omg) it feels very familiar and nostalgic. Not that I'm very old lol, just became a legal adult this year.
I do have an Instagram, but it's pretty inactive and I haven't really posted much. I think I have like two posts. One is a doodle I made while I was bored and had a bit of art block. Resembles my older art, but has a bit more depth instead of looking like a growling dog that ran face-first into a wall lol. The other one is more recent, but my style varies a bit, so that isn't AS flowy as my fresh-from-the-oven art is. It's a_cryptids_art on IG! I'll try to post my newer stuff soon tho

Oooooh I love Australian sheppers too! My friend has some and they are so cool. I'm a fan of just about any breed that has some energy and working drive ;) Also, you are just in time because auditions for season 1 episode 1 will be opening very soon. I gotta storyboard the last scene in episode 1, brief over it with the editor, and after that I think we'll be ready to open auditions!

Omg omg I am so sooo excited!! I love wolves animations which r like movies or is a series. Can I voice act?- I would like a villain character ._.
Yooo!! I'm glad you stumbled upon this lil channel then : D The characters in episode 1 have all been casted, but there will be many more roles opening in the future! Though funnily enough, there's no villian (or protagonist) in this story. Instead it follows a large cast of characters with varying goals that either contradict or coincide with other characters' goals. No one character thinks that * they * are doing wrong. Even if a character has to choose some less-than-moral options to accomplish their goal, they believe they're doing the right thing. BUT, there are plenty of characters who choose some far-less-than-kind actions so there might be a pretty close fit for you to voice act lol

If I can make a suggestion, my apologies if it sounds rude at all, but it may be a good idea to setup a discord server so that it's easier for communication since Discord is a free to use platform that does allow you to send voice files over, as well as communicate vocally with your VAs, not to mention if you decide to add more characters to your story, you can spread the word throughout the platform and get some pretty good talent, and I can speck for a lot of people about it, and of course I use the platform too, but more importantly, I love helping small indie shows get popular and have a lot of experience with such things so I would love to volunteer whenever possible
Hey there! Sorry it's taken me a minute to get back to ya... I love the idea of setting up a discord. I've started a server for the series, but still trying to figure out how it works lol. I've used discord a little bit but I am mostly brand new to it. The only time I voice auditioned for someone else's project, they had me send the audio files via private message in discord. Or maybe I could set up a text channel for auditions for each character, so everyone can send their audio files there? Idk, that might get confusing....it sounds like you have some experience here, so if you have any ideas, I'd super appreciate suggestions! Thanks and have a great day :)

1st: Not a problem at all, I'm a media director as well and I usually have a lot on my plate with this sort of thing so I can easily relate
2nd: I would be more than happy to help you out with setting everything up, I even know some really wonderful people who are experts at bots, and those are really good necessities when making a server 😁

I'll be posting the casting call for voice actors here soon so stay tuned! When the casting call is out, it will have a link to a Google doc with all the info on the characters and how to audition. Really glad you're interested in voice acting! Also I love me some good old 2D animation too ❤
