Playing with an actual Vietnam War vet feels very different from random 12 years old pretending to be the squad leader screaming on the comms
Wouldn't they have to be like 60?
@@thetexastickler5698 yeah, but that's also not uncommon, i've seen 65 & 69 year old in squad before, from 40 to 50 year olds in arma too
Nerd problems
@@thetexastickler5698 what’s your point?
@@thetexastickler5698 if I'm not mistaken, 70s actually.
bro that's so sick to actually play with someone who was actually there
I was there...and I will seek revenge for the death of my family!
@@tigerbalm666 USA stay winning
@@ZTOXZZ Americans lost the Vietnam war lol
No shìt child.....
@@jacobchedore6094 only politically. Absolutely destroyed them on the battlefield: 63,000 USA to 1mil+ NVA
The fact you got an actual vet makes this special, it's really cool to hear his inputs and thoughts.
The developers actually had several vets to help with the authenticity
@@harryt2284 ..... I'm not talking about the game being developed
its called "stolen valor"
@@TrollDemN00bs you got proof?
Stop joking about PTSD, don’t act ignorant about suffering. Shocked you said this with a vet speaking. Now I get it, he isn’t playing or watching, you used him! Used him to make money for your channel. That shows your character and of lack respect for his trauma and suffering! Wow, wow.
SOG Prairie Fire: Most realistic and authentic DLC ever
Drewski: Plays in 3rd person
3rd person is mostly what i use...lol
Ikr
@@cloaked2562 it takes an incredible amount out of the immersion
@@airpods3198 idk i used to play SOCOM 1,2,3, arma reminds me of it on roids
@@airpods3198 I disagree. First person shooters on a single monitor(even a 35" like mine) feel completely confining compared to real life. Like you are looking through a pair of goggles. That is MUCH more immersion breaking than being able to see your own person.
And it is MUCH more realistic to have a large, tall, wide view of the situation - like I would in real life with peripheral vision.
So, I play Arma in 3rd person because it gives me REALISTIC big picture situational awareness, instead of limiting my SA to about 1/3 that of real life.
I can just feel the Fortunate Son in my bones already.
I heard if you don't play Fortunate Son while playing, the DLC auto deletes itself
@@Chinx313 Can confirm
@@Chinx313 You can also play "For What it's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield as a secondary song.
It's not in the helicopter jukebox, neithers ride of the the Valkyries, I'm so disappointed
@@miles7183 But you get an automatic debuff :/
Drew is a lot quieter when he plays with some bad ass veterans
Who wouldn't be? LOLL I think anyone would love to play with actual vets and hear their true stories.
@@Reaper-lo1xv Agree agree Agree i wanna learn something from vets
When you play with somebody that has a story to tell. You shut up and listen to those stories.
its called "stolen valor"
@@Reaper-lo1xv my dads a doctor and when i was younger i went with him to the veteran's home when he did his rounds. it was the best time of my life. I got to listen to so many stories from WW2 and on. I talked to a vet who flew planes in WW2 and even flew recon for D-Day, he flew so low they found handgun rounds in the bottom of his plane.
Drewski hearing voices left and right. The guy next to him: That's just my buddy whispering in my ear. The trees: snickering
Flinched so hard when y’all went up that slope with those rotors
same
I was like "Ayo are they too close to those rotors?"
This guy is so badass, he's just chilling playing a mission based on his life lol.
I doubt the guy called Alex Mason is a coincidence.
Definitely not a coincidence
THE NUMBERS MASON
Alex is our pointman in the DLC beta test team RT Columbia, he's a bonafide terminator
all we need now is a Woods and a Hudson.
@@domesticonion8026 IM A GODDAMN ONION MASON
Can't wait to see more.
I have a special place in my heart for Vietnam because my grandpa served for the entirety of the Vietnam war and it always makes me happy when i can learn more about it and teach other people what it was like there.
Just learned the Vietcong were just trying to fight for their independence, I’ve never looked at the Vietnam war the same. USA we’re definitely the bad guys here but what’s sad is almost all of the soldiers didn’t want no part of the war.
@@XmarcX92 Technically North Vietnam was fighting because we was working with south Vietnam.
It was the same situation with Korea but the South Vietnamese was alot weaker then the north.
@@XmarcX92 thank you for not putting all the blame on the soldiers, most of them just wanna go home and then some assholes comes and calls them monsters
@@XmarcX92 get that bs out of here why do people like you have to make simple videos and comments so controversial
@@theonlyV1 but he didn't. You just got mad about something for no damn reason.
I love how you can go from joking with your mates and then 2 seconds later you are in a fire fight
2:33 They were really close to getting their heads chopped off lol
I’m reading Whiskey Tango Foxtrot right now, and this is the perfect fix for my S.O.G. addiction, hopefully you don’t get someone praying on the ground while you’re Across The Fence, which is the next book I’ll be reading
Have you read sog the secret wars of America’s commandos in Vietnam?
@@matthewfox1561 or do LSD every time you’re not in combat
@@shala_shashka get into rp by burning your draft card the the local college
@@ampolcyn1 SOG chronicles? I think John Stryker Meyer wrote that one, who also wrote Across The Fence, was planning on reading both
I suggest reading a book called Chickenhawk, it's about a huey pilot in vietnam. It's an absolutely legendary book in description and action. The pilot, Robert Mason shows you the war as he experienced it.
vet: are we going to take the prisoner in for a beer
I love how he said: „I hope you enjoy this video“
This game is as close as it gets to real simulation. You could literally set up Rally Points and do a leaders recon, assign squad movements, practice Troop Leading Procedures, and so much more for these large movements. Solid footage!! I need to get involved ASAP!
You always been
My grandfather served in vietnam, and is still alive today, sadly he has very bad memory problems. What he does talk of it, in the rare moments when he recognises us and what not, he often talks about dropping out of the heli, immediately taking fire, and the recollection of stepping over a hundred bodies of fallen brothers. The saddest part being that he was the only one of his squad to make it out. He's a very nice man :) im glad he made it back
Thanks for sharing his story
Thank you for sharing this one. May your grandfather find solemn in these peaceful times.
of course he would drop this ten minutes before my final starts lmao perfect way to chill afterwards though
love the content drewski!
lol hope ur final went well :)
How you go ?
This is how it should be done. Did I detect a Glaswegian accent amongst the players ? The old vet talking at the end was brilliant !! " Horsepower " and " Are we taking the prisoner for a beer " ? Respect to him
The fact that you got to play with that actual vet is just awesome.
2:45 that helicopter sounds like a Honda Civic at 2 am
Yes sir
Sorry about that bro
This is oddly accurate
"Are you gonna take the prisoner in for a beer?" hell yea
Tilt is awesome and RIP to The Frenchman Doug Letourneau.
Meanwhile some smooth brain a few comments up is defending the NVA and communism
I live how you guys are actually moving in line and everything.
Bless Don’s soul, he sounds like the most bad ass but yet wholesome old man alive
Arma 3: creates SOG prairie fire
Me: hearing the incessant use of fortunate son
It woulda been freakin scary to be walkin through that jungle not knowing if traps or charlie or animals were around you. Cheers to each and every vet that has served
What a honor it must've been to actually play with a real one
Playing with an actual war Vet is so wholesome.
2:30 That was an interesting choice of landing zones. Any one of those dudes getting out of the helicopter could potentially lose their heads to the choppers blades trying to climb out of that crater and no one said a thing about it. lmao I love video games.
Lol that's the only thing bugging me out with this mission
Watching you get hit by the vehicle was a great belly laugh =D. Well done on the game play and the video. Really enjoy this new DLC. As a retired USN vet, with 27 years of service, it really feels “right” and looks fantastic.
I absolutely love all the effort the dev team put in to this
That Vietnam vet has to be like 60-70 huh?! How’s he better than me at shooters.
70s minimum, 1950 and before. Chuck Norris will be 81 this year.
Old people playing games is only extremely bad or extremely good
@@korbetthein3072 well the youngest possible would be 64 born on 1957 and served in 75
unless they lied about their age
@@WILLYBREATH_v That's actually a fair point.
2:12 LOL landing that close to the rotors...yeah, half of the squad would've lost their heads in that moment
The amount of times he says "we go kitty bar" lol
“I’ve been looking forward to this”
-count dooku
As a helicopter pilot, watching everyone exit that UH-34 at 2:25 wierds me out. It landed in a big bomb crater and everyone climbing up that crater would need to worry about not getting hit by those rotor blades. That's a big concern when landing on slopes in a heli. On a side note there is a big radial engine in the front of the helicopter similar to the ones used on the old WW2 bombers. They got the sound right as it flew away. It's a beautiful thing. I'm just glad it's not the same sound as the Huey like they tend to use in all sound effects in every movie in US history that has a helicopter in it...it seems.
Man they really did a good job on this.. an the music an sound effects are on point
The way Drew gets PUNTED by that milk truck is just fantastic
I remember playing Operation Flashpoint in 2002 with 4-5 friends over a virtual LAN programme. And the Vietcong multiplayer co-op. Now, look at this...
It's interesting that combat vets would want to relive some of these situations virtually in a game. Seems like it would hit a little too close to home.
That conversation at the end was really cool. Great video. Cheers.
The gentleman that was actually there n he’s playing along side you ? Brother is awesome to listen to, when he talks its like past history coming to life.
We love Don. He games with us every week

Finally! Been waiting for this! Love ya Drewski
well done on the music drew that outro was sick!!
Been waiting for this
I love how drew was the only one to exit the helicopter appropriately 😅
YES. I've been waiting for the release of this video since you posted it was comin
Bro I was getting popcorn to watch some movie on netflix, but this just crossed me on youtube when I was about to close it, perfect timing!!!!!!!!!!
wow i love it, i have to buy this dlc
This is some good content
I got the dlc and couldnt wait for your video to come out and here it amazing stuff as always man!
Love it! Every minute is like an awesome cutscene...as a viewer, at least!
Sound track was great BTW!
Tactical movement
No one screaming
Always watching the back
Very cool
I did the first mission, very fun. New to arma 3 and this came out couple days after I bought it. Love Vietnam stuff
Its so ironic that I just watched Jocko podcast with the actual SOG guys from veitnam the past three days and you uploaded this video on the day I finished them.
I was so into the firefight after they left the trucks i didn’t notice how far they had to run to the LZ till they had 1.2 kilometers. And my heart sank I thought there would be no way they could fight that long. Makes me even more amazed to think about what the real guys had to go through in the secret war.
Drewski is insane at these games.
FanTASTic vid. appreciated!
Awesome vid. Keep up the great work!
the one time someone is hearing the enemy more then drewski is when he's playing with Don LOL
Drew created history playing with a real war vet
A true pioneer nobody has ever played a video game with a war veteran.
I LOVE IT!!!! Can't wait to download this. They really did a good job. Thank you for the upload and to the Veterans for their service,
Man, that was really cool! thanks for a great vid!
Dayum , someone seems to have defeated PTSD
Or he may have never had PTSD from it. Not everyone who’s been to war automatically gets PTSD.
Fun fact: the character “Tilt” seen speaking was actually in RT Raleigh during the war. His name is John “tilt” Stryker Meyer. He did a podcast with Jocko willink and talks about his experiences there. Nice attention to detail and paying homage to those guys that were there
He was on RT Idaho
@@Ian-yk4pk yeah when he came back for his 2nd tour 👍🏻 1st was RT Raleigh
@@WesRosey I didn't know that I've only heard him talk about Idaho. I just started listening to On the Ground today though.
@@Ian-yk4pk he was an advisor for the game I doubt he’d let them make it incorrectly. Check out the Jocko podcasts 180 and 181
For anyone who doesn't own Arma jet. It is currently on sale on steam with the regular edition being 7 euros ($8,44) and the ultimate edition is only 37 euros ($44,63).
Thanks for sharing. Great gameplay.
I'd really like to see Don's perspective if he was recording. He didn't seem to speak up much during the mission (or maybe I just couldn't pick out his voice), so I'm curious what it was like for him.
GHostrider Don Here; FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN!
Respect and love for that war vet
This is amazing. I’m enjoying it a lot.
Awesome video! Thank you!
I love vietnam baised games they don't make enough of them and this is no exception just beautiful
It's all fun and games till the trees start speaking vietnamese
Well that was just great. I'm so glad Don came along.
I love how serious it is. That is how I like to play. To the realest it can be.
So surprising they just released this today. Was expecting a late June release.
The Agent Orange in my blood is suddenly reacting cuz of this
This is so cool Drewski
Brilliant all the fun without actually dying can't ask much more than that and you have an actual real live vet....frellin stupendous
Really reminds me of rising storm 2, played that earlier today.
lol at 14:17 someone says "cho Bác Hồ" as he throws a grenade
the Vietnamese voice lines are killing me lmao
For uncle Ho lol
Love the random 🐍 s and details
I've watched a lot of these multi gamer videos.....this is a breath of fresh air because the players are actually serious.......adults make a difference. Thanks.
you weren't lying when you said the sound was great, it's prob some of the best arma sounds ever
Weapons don't sound so great though.
@@SherLock55 it's weird because it sounds very good but feels out of place
I've been waiting for this
16:30 When you think that Arma changed, but it reminds you that it's still Arma... ;)
This video was pure gold!
"but, it's horsepower." I love that dude.
to be properly narrative: We need some CCR and Hendrix blasting in the background.
16:30 that laugh i can't
This has to be about the coolest possible FPS action to be a part of I've ever seen. The Platoon soundtrack just makes it better.
Holyshit this is scary and real, most of the generations these days were in vietnam and knowing my grandpa was in this was this is scary :/ it's amazing he survived it.
