My Top 5 would be... 1. Magick - She's just got a lot of fun stuff in her kit, but like you said she can just do any aspect in fun ways. 2. Scarlet Witch - She's my favorite of the risk/reward kind of builds. Yes, the risk is minimal by churning through (mostly) the encounter deck faster. But, she's great. 3. Nebula - I love that build up of a couple techniques and then trigger them the next turn gameplay. I've liked it since she was released, and it still hasn't got old. 4. X-23 - She's my favorite damage output character. I just enjoy that readying and using HP as a resource, and her signature ally leaning into what she already wants to be doing is great. 5. Storm - I love the flexibility she brings to multiplayer games. She can boost everyone, and then change the weather to reduce incoming damage. She's got great cards, and she's fun in a lot of aspects. The hero that I love that's dropped for me over time is Black Widow. I love the preparation gameplay, but they're just not providing enough cards with that keyword. I'm hoping this next SHIELD wave brings in some prepartion and spy cards to open up her deck building more. The hero that's grown on me the most is She-Hulk. Between the cards that help build her and the new ruling, she's pretty great. In particular, I love that the ruling makes her a bruiser when it comes to Stalwart villains. I just imagine her breaking the 4th wall saying, "I bet you wish you could be stunned now."
Great top 5 - love them all. Also hoping for new preparations in the SHIELD wave, fingers crossed! I don't see a world where it doesn't happen since even the first villain has a bunch of preps haha.
I audibly gasped when i saw Star-Lord lol Congrats on 3k subs! It’s well deserved thanks for all you do in the Marvel Champions community. I also had Captain America and Venom on the lower end of my favorite heroes list and got accused of trying to start controversy so it feels good to see you have them there too :)
Now I'm the guy in the movie who, when Star-Lord says his name, is all like "Who?!" Thanks though! Really appreciated. Sorry to hear about those accusations too. This might be easy to say and harder to do but let the negatives go past, try not to let them stick with you, some people are out to judge everyone's motives as bad. I do enjoy Captain America, and I can have fun with Venom, but they're not to my taste in the grand scheme of things. And I'm sure we're not the only ones out there!
@@VillainTheory haha 🤣 I appreciate the quality advice. You’re right and the majority of the community is still amazing. I had the same experience with Captain America as you did-he’s solid and very well rounded but i want to add my own spin to a hero and i couldn’t do that with him. And i think we actually might be the only ones out there 🤫
Gratz on 3k. I was impressed how fluid your rankings were since last time, really goes to show how new cards can change perceptions of old heroes. Bishop is one for me that keeps creeping up but is now also in my top 6, I think at first I was frustrated as I'd end turns with too many excess resources but Ive found ways to use his excess resources better. I'll never agree with you on Cable though lol, he's strong (one of the strongest) but I just dont vibe with his gameplay and decision tree.
Thanks for another fun video! I mostly agree, but some notable changes for me would be: I'd move Black Widow and Venom up a lot. Ghost Spider up a bit. I'd move down Rogue down a bit. Star Lord and Nova down a lot.
Really great to see your thoughts on this. I have no qualms with much on the list and I too find myself reaching for cable Psylocke and storm. I have a few of your lower tier heroes up higher (captain America and Phoenix) but any two people agreeing on every placement has an astronomically low probability… :) One of the things I was thinking about as I watched this was whether or not there was a general evolution of these lists. As we play the game more do we begin to value complexity over power. I suspect if you ask beginner players they would put strange and captain America up higher because they are just easy to win with. As you play more, winning starts to become less valuable than creativity and complexity. All of the heroes are viable but you have some of the strongest heroes in the game in your bottom tier. I wonder if this would have been the same if you were just starting out. Congrats on reaching 3000. It takes a lot of work to get there (more than most of us probably realize) and the community definitely appreciates your thoughts and dedication.
Thanks! I know personally my opinions have changed significantly. Quicksilver is probably the one who was super high and is now lower down (but I still enjoy, honestly).
Love the video! It's great to hear your thoughts on each hero. I think we have the same philosophy about the game and think every hero can be fun in certain builds. Each is unique in their own way and can't wait for more! Congrats on 3000! What is your next milestone goal?
Thanks! And great question. I set 3k by the end of the year as a goal, but never bothered before that and had no immediate plans. 4k seems ridiculous but maybe...?

Congrats on your subscribers ! I do want to see deck building videos from you since I particularly like your decks and want to see your decision making process.
I initially read this with very blurry eyes having just woken up and thought it was 6 stars. 6/10? "I'll take it, respectable" 🤣 Thanks so much! Appreciated! Always enjoy seeing your comments!
Congratulations! My rankings would be similar, with a few notable exceptions. I have Quicksilver a lot higher and Captain Marvel somewhere in the middle, while Star-Lord and Black Panther are down in the bottom third. If Black Panther's kit had more interactions with the aspect cards I'd probably enjoy him more.
Thanks And that's totally fair! Have you tried Black Panther with Change of Fortune yet? It's on my list, just need to find time among all the other heroes that love the new cards
Congrats on the milestone (sun). I would love you to do a video ranking all heroes based on power level which si into only on their own kit, but in general how broken of a deck you can build for each hero that synergises with..
She Hulk was my "most improved" hero experience. I struggled with her as well. But. Once I switched her to Justice --night and day. Then playing her with my silly Justice "heal-tank" deck, it's hilarious. She can reliably flip and heal for 15. Combined with Great Responsibility, she tanks threat and encourages others to flip for Alter Ego benefits. And of course, throwing a full 15-point Gamma Slam is always a crowd pleaser. She went from [Not For Me] to [Incredibly Fun]"
Wow! Your top 6 is all in my personal top 10 for solo play. The other 4 (...waiting for the Fantastic Four!) are Quicksilver (I still enjoy it), Phoenix, Cyclops and Adam Warlock. Bishop, Cable, Psylocke are also my favourite heroes for heroic mode.
It amazes me every time how similar our play styles must be because I agree on so many of these hero tier placements. It's hard for me to argue with your top 6. Mine are in a different order, but right now I think those same heroes are my favorites. I would say the one hero I probably like more than you is Wasp. I didn't used to like her at all till I started leaning into her alter ego ability to get mental resource cards back into her deck. She's not in my top two tiers but probable in Very Fun for me. The hero I like less than you is Drax, though I like him a lot more than I used to -- Fun But Flawed likely. Also, I would probably switch the Incredibly Fun row with the Extremely Fun row, mostly, though Black Panther and Wasp would stay up there for me. Thanks for another great video!!
I was just thinking - it would be very cool to see you do a few deck videos for your top 5 heroes. I know full on let's plays aren't really this channel's thing, but talking about a few decks you find fun for your most fun heroes I think could make for really engaging content.
Thanks for your super fun video in which you summarize all the heroes and rank them on the things you like and that is: challenging and difficult to play heroes. I would like to see similarities with the video you made recently: Marvel Champions' Top 10 Most Complicated Heroes. I personally prefer heroes that are easier to play and have strong similarities with the characteristics of the hero. This makes me completely immerse myself in the role of the hero and I feel like the hero. When I look at your list, most of these heroes ended up under "Fun" and "Fun but flawed". Well, everyone has their own preference and that's what makes Marvel Champions such a great game!
Totally fair and that's very interesting! I definitely think I gravitate to slightly more complex heroes. I am very mechanically-focused, so heroes with in-depth mechanics I can really sink my teeth into are super fun.
Hurting my heart, but you are right to be honest. I am only pulling Hulk out for 3 or 4 players now. I realized I am becoming more of Protection/Support player now with my friends. I played Nightcralwer support and Mysterio could barely touch us.
I am so sorry! I thought about pulling my punches with Hulk but at the end of the day I've got to be honest in the videos... And Hulk is not my friend. He can be fun in small doses but I feel like I've got more-or-less everything out of him he's ever reasonably going to give. Outside of the card game? Love Hulk!
Hey VT awesome work. Just became a patreon member. Just curious what usual turnaround time is on a custom deck? I'm so excited to see what you come up with for my request🎉
Hey Griffin - well firstly let me say thank you so much for your support! Hugely appreciated. I'd say the turnaround time is anywhere between a couple of hours and three days usually. Depends when I see it and how busy I am! Honestly most people don't bother to claim their monthly deck despite the odd reminder. Which is slightly sad because I love making decks for people. Yours is on the way! 😁
You definitely nailed my feelings about Ghost Spider, getting exhausted feels awful, and direct exhausts/statuses are not that uncommon to see, and it just ruins my momentum.
A huge congratulations on the massive 3000!! That's bloody amazing - and thank you for all you do! My top 5 for fun (no order): Ant Man Psylocke Colossus Spider-woman Scarlet Witch
Going back to Vision. I don't play him as often, but I feel like I'm at fault for overlooking him. I've moved him from Protection to Justice to Leadership, and I've never had a bad game with him. I agree with the criticism about Vivian, but I also like that her abilities depend on your forms. She "synergizes" with Vision to help whatever he's doing. I love Vision's forms and the way that they work. He was my first form-switching hero, and it feels like Fantasy Flight had really started evolving the idea of form switching after Ant Man, Wasp, and Spectrum. Another quick plug for Vivian: I build all my decks out for game night, so each hero is ally-poor, and Vivian helps with that problem.
Congrats! Great video as it was really interesting to hear your thoughts on each hero. As someone who just started making Marvel Champions videos myself, how do you choose which hero to play? Do you prefer to just play whoever you feel at the moment or do you have a plan on the order of heroes you want to play depending on which video you want to make? Always so hard to decide. Thanks!
Welcome to the TH-cam community! I don't do much gameplay but there's usually a purpose behind it. Even in my home games. Test this, show off this cool thing, etc etc. I miss just playing what I feel like though and recommend you definitely do that a lot if you plan to do this long-term so you don't burn out.
Hi there Here are my funniest heroes (for different sorts of reasons) : - Antman (i simply love the flip flap and little anties support, so much fun and dynamic to play) - Iron Heart (sometimes i just want something to break the game a bit, and she's offering me that) - SP-DR (probably one of the greatest heroes design of the game and i like her with acolyte, making Venom a 5/5 powerhouse ally) - Bishop (using the ressources for mechanics is really simple, yet refreshing and fluid to play) - Rocket "repurpose" Raccoon (Not really strong, but very fun to play, and i must admit, i like the character in the movies/comics) - Nebula (I love the puzzle and the planing she's offering, not consistant, but fun) Cheers from Belgium
Nice to see someone do a hero ranking that has more of a preference for 2 player. I play only 2 handed because I enjoy the interactions so much. Nice list!
We have surprisingly similar tastes; the biggest outlier is Gamora for me. Since player side schemes, she has moved into my top 6 and Bishop is a bit lower for me. Nightcrawler was my most anticipated as well, but he has been a disappointment. I'm really hoping Magneto is awesome; he's my second most anticipated. So far, I am not optimistic :X.
Player side schemes are so good for her. Didn't talk about it here but did mention Lock and Load etc in my last video. Love it. I have her queued up to try with Change of Fortune too which could help move her up my list
Oh, and regarding deck-building videos -- what I actually prefer is a discussion about deck builds. What I mean is that I don't really care to hear about how to build a deck (though I can understand why others would); what I like is to see a deck and then have the builder of that deck explain how the deck is "supposed to" work -- though for myself, my decks often work in very different ways than planned due to card draw order. 🙂
Throughout the video you listed a handful of super fun decks that would raise the “fun” level of several heroes. Do you mind either tagging their deck name in this video? Or maybe a video idea?(you’ve mentioned the Rocket one in two videos and I want to give it a try)
I think a video on fav decks would be great! For now, I have a Rocket Repurpose deck on marvelcdb which is fairly close to how I like to play it now, if quite out of date...
If you turn your phone/monitor/tv upside down, Venom is absolutely top tier for me! In all seriousness I can enjoy him, he just has no appeal to me whatsoever. But I understand why people like him - the people I play with are also big fans!
Thank you so much! Both for this comment and all your supportive comments since I began. And the support in general honestly - all the way back to my first video and beyond, before I made any! Really, really appreciated.
Thank you always for your very high quality videos. It will be difficult to make a video whenever a new hero is released, but why don't you temporarily put new hero in the existing tier table and release it?
@@VillainTheory Thank you. I think the accuracy of hero analysis comes from the ability to make decks and the experience of playing them in real game. You have both and do an accurate hero analysis. I look forward to seeing new hero tier video when after enough more heroes released
SHIELD is probably my favorite way to play her these days, and we actually played her at 2-player with SHIELD alter-ego only recently. That build/approach is a little niche to move her up but I will admit she is one of only a few heroes I'd currently consider trying it with to a serious degree.
We have almost the same ranking or hero choice. Except on our very top. I will swap domino with cable. And put SWitch before storm. Swap x23 with nova. Rwmove dr strange and deadpool in not fun, then its close to my experience. 😁
That was fun! I’m a big Drax fan so was happy to see him so high. And I’m completely with you on the Domino/Magick discussion. You mentioned some of the decks you like to play when talking about each hero. Would LOVE to see a list ranking your favourite decks!
I consider myself a newbie as I don't get tp play as much as I want to. I will say that I buy new sets or characters I like. One of my big disapointments is that that the Hulk is at the bottom of a lot of lists. That being said if a character makes me feel like I am playing that character I like them more than if I had more powerful one. So my question is of all the characters which one would you say gives you the best thematic feel that you are playing the baring all other things and level where placed them even if you enjoy them or not?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW, way to brag about how many subscribers you have 🙄🙄 Just kidding man, you’re the best in the business and people realize it!! Keep it up and I’ll see you after the next 3000.
I know you made this comment before watching the full video because you didn't comment on how disgustingly low I rated Vision (terrible character, worst robot hero ever??? 😉) Thanks though! Super appreciated! Also I stole the googly-eyes from our "Worst" Cards thumbnails (as much as I can steal from myself...) because someone else said they liked them and I figured they deserved to be on more thumbnails...
@@VillainTheory you know me so well! I wanted to leave a nice comment for you up front and then leave a hate comment after the vision slander that I knew was coming
@@WinningHandPodcast Ah and in doing so, you'll strike a perfect balance between positive and negative! As perfectly balanced as intangible and dense forms.
Final comment: I love Star Lord and thankfully I don’t play him that much, for me he is top 5. My guilty pleasure is Aggression Hulk, like Captain America said in the movie… Hulk Smash!!!
LOL. I actually dislike Hulk, and never purchased him. But my friend plays him, and the whole table irresistibly announces "Hulk SMASH" when he plays that card. I'm glad I don't have to play him, but he's super fun at the table. ;-)
@VillainTheory lol, it's all good. Very much enjoyed the video. Just kept watching you honey him around her and my brain is like "come on, she's right there!" LOL
I disagree about Ms Marvel. She's near the bottom for me. I feel completely pigeon-holed into Justice. She has six terrible hero cards which I never play at all --Big Hands and Sneak By. Mediocre aspect cards are better. Then she has three persona cards which all activate on Alter Ego. I actually like those, but they really push you into Justice if you're going to be generating that much threat. She can't do team protection if she's flipping all the time. I started building her deck to 50 cards to thin the hero card ratio, because they're so bad. Her suit is a generic resource generator (great but boring). Her event recursion is great, but the only hero card I ever recur is Wiggle Room. I get that she's strong. I get that she can be pretty tanky (I love tanky builds). I get that event recursion gives you amazing options, but her hero cards just disappoint me. She needs another persona card where you can dump cards which you hate.
Totally fair. I highly recommend not just recurring Wiggle Room though, it's a super flexible ability. Need to clear the board? Attack, bounce the attack back, do it again. If you get the chance to play at her at 2+ player, I highly recommend her in Aggression and people really like her in Protection as well (albeit not me personally).
Congrats. Your Community loves you 3000 😂😅

@@VillainTheory Got it! thank you so much for the response, appreciate it a lot
Congratulations on hitting 3000! Excellent work!
Thanks! It both feels like a long journey but also arrived quicker than I ever expected
Hi there
Here are my funniest heroes (for different sorts of reasons) :
- Antman (i simply love the flip flap and little anties support, so much fun and dynamic to play)
- Iron Heart (sometimes i just want something to break the game a bit, and she's offering me that)
- SP-DR (probably one of the greatest heroes design of the game and i like her with acolyte, making Venom a 5/5 powerhouse ally)
- Bishop (using the ressources for mechanics is really simple, yet refreshing and fluid to play)
- Rocket "repurpose" Raccoon (Not really strong, but very fun to play, and i must admit, i like the character in the movies/comics)
- Nebula (I love the puzzle and the planing she's offering, not consistant, but fun)
Cheers from Belgium
Nice to see someone do a hero ranking that has more of a preference for 2 player. I play only 2 handed because I enjoy the interactions so much. Nice list!
Same! I prefer 2 handed for the interactions and it doesn't quite feel like a full game at true solo for me
Not all content creators mainly play solo, spread the word 😜 Thanks guys glad you liked this approach!
Congrats x3000 🎉🥳
Thank you x3000! Really appreciated 😁
Since you asked.... I would love some deck building videos. Great job on the channel!
I'll see what I can do! And thank you!
Alright, finally watched to the end...I'm glad he at least moved up a tier. I thought you said you had been really enjoying him!
Hey he used to be in the bottom 2 tiers for me, now I've ended up putting him up in "Very Fun". Huge jump!
Good to know!
For now, I have a Rocket Repurpose deck on marvelcdb which is fairly close to how I like to play it now, if quite out of date...
if i don't see venom in top tier, i'll be so very sour :P /s
kudos on your achievements!
If you turn your phone/monitor/tv upside down, Venom is absolutely top tier for me!
In all seriousness I can enjoy him, he just has no appeal to me whatsoever. But I understand why people like him - the people I play with are also big fans!
@@VillainTheory you know i
Well deserved 3K ! Go on with the awesome content.
Thank you!
Congratulations!! So very well deserved
Thank you so much! Both for this comment and all your supportive comments since I began. And the support in general honestly - all the way back to my first video and beyond, before I made any! Really, really appreciated.
Just subscribed! Keep up the awesome MC content!
Welcome aboard! Thank you!
Lol Justice for Shield toss lol - Great Tier list, some surprises here! Thanks for sharing!
Haha! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you always for your very high quality videos. It will be difficult to make a video whenever a new hero is released, but why don't you temporarily put new hero in the existing tier table and release it?
I might give it a mention but sometimes it takes a while for new heroes to settle, we'll see!
@@VillainTheory Thank you. I think the accuracy of hero analysis comes from the ability to make decks and the experience of playing them in real game. You have both and do an accurate hero analysis. I look forward to seeing new hero tier video when after enough more heroes released
Captain Marvel, justice, 3 player: SHIELD build where you stay in alter ego most of the game. Is there someone that does it better?
SHIELD is probably my favorite way to play her these days, and we actually played her at 2-player with SHIELD alter-ego only recently. That build/approach is a little niche to move her up but I will admit she is one of only a few heroes I'd currently consider trying it with to a serious degree.
We have almost the same ranking or hero choice.
Except on our very top. I will swap domino with cable. And put SWitch before storm.
Swap x23 with nova.
Rwmove dr strange and deadpool in not fun, then its close to my experience. 😁
Great taste haha!
(🎉🎉🎉)x1000!!! That’s awesome!!! Congratulations
Thaaank you! Appreciated!
That was fun! I’m a big Drax fan so was happy to see him so high. And I’m completely with you on the Domino/Magick discussion.
You mentioned some of the decks you like to play when talking about each hero. Would LOVE to see a list ranking your favourite decks!
I have no idea what my fav decks are overall and I fear too many of them would be Repurpose 🤣 But it sounds fun, love the idea!
Great list! Colossus made it toward the top, so I’m happy.
He's too tough to be put any lower
@@VillainTheory Ba dum tss 😛
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW, way to brag about how many subscribers you have 🙄🙄
Just kidding man, you’re the best in the business and people realize it!! Keep it up and I’ll see you after the next 3000.
I know you made this comment before watching the full video because you didn't comment on how disgustingly low I rated Vision (terrible character, worst robot hero ever??? 😉)
Thanks though!
@@VillainTheory Well played, sir. Well played.
Final comment: I love Star Lord and thankfully I don’t play him that much, for me he is top 5. My guilty pleasure is Aggression Hulk, like Captain America said in the movie… Hulk Smash!!!
HULK SMASH!
Love it. And let it be known I do still love Star-Lord. It's not a break-up. We just need some space...
@@VillainTheory lol
LOL. I actually dislike Hulk, and never purchased him. But my friend plays him, and the whole table irresistibly announces "Hulk SMASH" when he plays that card. I'm glad I don't have to play him, but he's super fun at the table. ;-)
The Excalibur fan in me was aesthetically hoping you'd drop Nightcrawler next to Shadowcat, but then you went one space more over.
I'm so sorry!
@VillainTheory lol, it's all good. Very much enjoyed the video. Just kept watching you honey him around her and my brain is like "come on, she's right there!" LOL
I’ve not played every hero but my top 6 would be: Spider Woman, Star Lord, Vision, Hulk, Gambit & Gamora.
Love it, great mix of different heroes
Skipping to Thor, as its the metric for how creators compare to me.
Totally fair
Initial comment: Let’s see if this aligns with my fun hero list!
"All four aspects."?
Susge
Forgive me for I have sinned
We all have our own lists, but I was happy to see Bishop in the Top 6.
I thought I'd end up putting him pretty high before I started recording. Didn't expect it a few months ago but he's just super super fun!
