I Went to Scout Out a Big Comic Collection… and Scored Some ‘AMAZING’ Silver-Age Keys!

- Hey comic collecting fans! A comic store friend was contacted by someone selling a collection of comics and toys, and I was invited to tag along to help price the books!
In addition to several long boxes full of comics, there were some BIG Amazing Spider-Man keys featuring the first appearances of Spidey’s rogue’s gallery… which I desperately wanted.
In the midst of all the price negotiating could I somehow close a deal for these famous first appearances for myself, and at a good price? Check out the video to find out!

I found a Heroes For Hope in a comic book store in NJ that was full of signatures. I don’t think the store owner ever opened the book to look inside when they bought it because it was selling for just a little over cover price.
Personally, I would just leave them in the slabs. A book that age, I wouldn't want to mess with it too much. But yeah, you definitely got them at a fantastic price. It's always a good day when you can add something awesome like that to the PC. Cheers, Mike!
We all have that friend like Ric, don’t we? Unless we are THAT friend 😂 Looks like you had a great time and I’m officially jealous of those books, Spidey is muy guy so any time I see those vintage books I can’t help but feel a bit of envy (just a little and not in a bad way). I would just keep them slabbed, no telling how brittle the pages may be and I don’t think the reward is worth the risk.

That 1st Mysterio is 100% a CPR candidate. Especially at the deal you got. I think with the right amount of care, it could bump to a 2.5 which would be a nice price hike. Even up to a nicer looking 2.0 it’d be worth it. Same with the Kraven, I’d CPR it for the presentation bump alone.

Like I have said before, I am a big Spider-Man fan! Not only were the slabbed ones awesome, but saw so many other Spider-Man books that would fill holes in m y collection!!! I wish his store was closer!! I am sure Jeff would have the best idea on whether it would be ok and worth it to crack, clean, press, and resubmit those books. Let us know what he says! I would leave the two ASMs in the slabs. I don't think you'd get much improvement in terms of grade as the issues they have are significant enough to keep them in those grades. What a great deal though! It's like you bought the 13 and the 15 was an added bonus. Just consider it a 'few extra' lunches.

I'm biased since I'm a huge Spidey fan and also consider Mysterio one of my favourite villains. Use the great price you got on that ASM 13 to your advantage, sell it and then use that towards obtaining a cleaner raw/graded copy. However, considering the circumstances as you got it, probably just keep it as a memento from a good friend. The story/memory of how you got the book sometimes is better than actually owning the thing when you look back on it.

(I missed you by a couple hours last time you were there). I visited Hasbeen because of your videos and met Rick. He is Hilarious, and I bought one of his framed pieces. As a Spidey guy your 2 pickups are 🔥🔥🔥. ASM 13 a good CPR candidate but if your not selling them then probably not worth the risk. At $450 I would have picked both of those up in a heart beat. I was able to pull off a partial trade for a 1st green goblin at the last small convention I went to.

That’s a great deal for those iconic books! I wouldn’t crack them open because they are very fragile in that low grade condition. It’s not worth the rick of furthering damaging these beautiful iconic books. You can always trade up.

I'm a strong believer in the adage "Low grade is better than no grade", and for books like those two ASMs, low grade is the best I'll ever be able to afford.

Great pickups Mike I'm a big fan of the Spidey villains as well.
Those are great books in any condition! Personally, I'd have them pressed and cleaned and leave them raw (not worth re-slabbing, not now anyway). If you're not going to grade them, I'd even consider restoration/conservation.
Sounds like you’re more into preserving the item, and Cari g about its existence than profiting from it.
I’ve been watching lots of your videos just in the past couple weeks and it’s inspired to me to look through my collection. I don’t have many and most aren’t worth much, a couple decent ones I think at least one possibly in the thousands, but I have some cool books otherwise. And for me a lot of it is just what the cover looks like in the artwork I don’t care about opening them and reading them, which is a disgrace, but I like the art even if the book is only worth a few bucks. I saw I had Shi 1-3 I don’t know exactly who drew the covers on them, but it’s gorgeous artwork. Worthy of display. I only have maybe 250-300 books and most aren’t worth a lot, but even as a kid in the late 80’s and 90’s I bought them because either the cover looked cool or perhaps a new book or first appearance of a character.
@@rexrocker1268 absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a comic book for its cover or art! Even if it’s not worth a lot monetarily, if you still get some enjoyment out of them they are priceless!
@@lunchmoneycomics I admire your passion about all this and you’re also knowledgeable. I don’t know anything. And also you probably make a few bucks. You have to work for it, but you make a few extra bucks other than your regular job and get some cool things that you enjoy.
I swear one video I saw you were looking through books, and I saw those comics Bone for a split second. I don’t know which issues they were. Most of them aren’t worth much from what I’ve seen but if you missed number one? Shoot… I think I have #10 or 12. I wish I bought those back in the day. #1 is worth a few bucks for some reason.

Honestly, my decision would lay upon what Jeff would say. If he felt confident he could help the staining. I'd let him crack, clean, and resubmit the books. Hopefully, at least, keep the grades they have. More as an esthetic save than a grade bump. Just because how iconic they are. They deserve to be dressed for success, basically lol.

Great video!!! Loved the funny intro. I would keep them slabbed because of the age and the fragile state they are in and also not being able to get a much higher grade after cleaning and pressing would not be worth it. Keep up the great work. 😎

so worth getting them at that price! don't crack them just display them and share them on the wall of books. low grade is better then not having them.
If they are staying in your collection, I'd clean, press and do whatever you could to reasonably improve them, and leave them raw. You may enjoy revisiting those beautiful pages! I was a bit surprised you didn't jump on those old X-Men books - they looked sweet! Enjoy, and well done........again!

Great pick ups!! I'm not ASM collector so congrates on getting them both for the price. After having not "going with my gut" on bargain/ deals, more than a few times I've 100% regretted it. So now, I don't hesitate. Also, did either of you pick up that Wizard #1? I hope one of you did!! That's an iconic cover for an iconic magazine!!

Nice pick up. Great deal. Personally I wouldn’t mess with the Mysterio book but would roll the dice on the Kraven Book for a clean and press. Just my opinion.

I think you got a pretty good deal. Considering that these are books that you really wanted to own (favorite Spidey villains). I wouldn't bother with cracking them open and trying to get a higher grade. You'll just be spending additional money that you could use for something at terrificon. I really enjoyed the intro to this video because he cracked you up and broke your rhythm. It was like an outtake at the end of a Smokey and the Bandit movie.
In my opinion, Grading should mainly be done for the purpose of selling. It’s not a great way to preserve and is a waste of money. Good on CGC for tricking everyone into it though.

If you don’t shell out more cash, then you won’t be able to get them bigger books. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and just spend. Don’t restrict yourself to buying comics only at “lunch money” funds. Just spend wisely. Adding more gems to your collection. Very sweet!

You should crack open both books and send them to a good presser and not CGC pressing cause I am sure you can get at least one grade bump on each book ,I know with it being such a low grade I would chance it.

Is it possible to de-rust the staplers and still get it graded as a non restored.
@@maverick7291 from what I’ve heard, cleaning rust off staples is considered altering them and thus restoration. Kinda weird in my opinion but that’s what people say
