Our string orchestra is planning to play an arrangement of this work in Holy Week 2025, and that led me to discover this recording. These same four men coached us for a week in a quartet group at Dartington Summer School perhaps a year or two before they made this recording, and we learned a lot from them. If you see this comment, Zemlinsky players, please enjoy very best wishes from Rosy (viola and Jeremy (2nd violin).

Sounds like Haydn may have borrowed from Mozart's Haffner symphony which was composed in 1782 and Haydn's piece in 1786. Anyway, great work by a great master!

Unlikely; Mozart was borrowing ideas all the time, Haydn almost never.
