I have performed this on Violin, and have never EVER even considered how this may sound on a different instrument!!!! I was a bit curious as to how you would do the double stopping, but I'm impressed with how you did it...BRAVO to you for giving this piece of amazing music a different ray of light...and the higher registers of this piece sound amazingly piercing on the flute! J'adore!
An absolutely brilliant flutist-amazing natural playing. Everything is there, beautiful tone, great musicianship and technique and articulation that is astounding. One of the best I have ever heard.
Everything about this performance is superb. Fantastic tome, great musicianship, stupendous technique. There is an excitement in his playing. One of the great flutists of this era.
Again BRILLIANT!! I'd much rather hear him perform this with orchestra. The piano is much too percussive. I've been listening to the greatest all my life. Rampal being the first flutist I ever heard and the reason I began playing. Denis is definitely one of the greatest to ever play the instrument.

Amazing, I instantly was taken back by your playing when I heard the clips on your website. I definitely regret coming the the BFS convention this summer to see you live!
I'm an amateur flute player, and this music is one of my all-time favourites. I "wish" I could play this. It's hard to play it as written because the lowest note on a violin is G3 whereas a flute can reach reach B3. The top note on a flute is C7, giving it three octaves. A professional can of course stretch that a little bit higher. The highest violin note I remember seeing this this score is E7, which is beyond my range. You notice he's arranged it a bit to fit the flute.
Mine is from International Music Company New York, edited by Jean-Pierre Rampal, No. 2851 My local music shop had to order it from the US for me because it was not available in Germany :D
And you've done the Mendelssohn too! Fantastic! OK, so when you let me know where I can get the Saint - Saens, you can also tell me where I can get this piece, too! Outstanding! Bravo!
3 octaves (C4 to C7, plus B3 if the player has a flute that can reach the low B, and C#7-F#7 as sort of a "null" register. The notes B3 and C#7-F#7 can be reached but are rarely ever used).
it always surprises me how concerto for other instruments always seem to suit the flute, the sound on recording is overpowering but ive listened to the other recording s of the same place your colours are missing but i know they are there i hope we see you soon on some of the bigger stage i dont think there has been anybody since jimmy with the quality in sound even at speed in the scales but also in projection it always seems to be missing i really enjoyed your playing
@madi12656 it's definitely not the Billaudot edition. It seems closer to the violin version, esp. the cadenza. Perhaps he just made his own, as i'm doing with some others.
G7 can be reached (I know since I have reached it), but it's very flat. So Basicly F#7 becomes F7 and G7 becomes F#7. You can find fingering for G#7, A#7 and C8. Wikipedia confirms that it's possible to reach C8. But it's never used. F7 is used in Ibert's flute concerto.
Do you have a CD? I would love to listen to your music in the mornings :) it's a great insperation for me, I just picked the flute back up after a hard part in my life. It's funny how we don't notice the important things till their gone.
ff Applouse,... really done very welk! i live your way how u playing! color of feeling is missing, and sometimes you breath too loud! nvm this, u are a Great Musician
I'm not so crazy about this movement... The performers and arranger have done a more-than-amazing job, but it just doesn't sound like a flute work the way the the third movement does. It just...sounds like a transcription. Does that make any sense? It doesn't matter that much, but the third movement is so idiomatic that you could tell me it was written for flute and I'd believe you, which is not the case with this. I'd fear for any player of lesser calbre attempting it, myself included!
Very nice, pity you don't seem to be 'perfoming' (body language) during the tuttis - sort of spoils visually a very authoritative performance. Who's the accompanist? (maybe it would be polite to mention his name on the video description?)

Yes, trying it out tomorrow for the first time in a concert :-)
But how Denis, how? The perfect technique along with the perfect tone throughout all registers.. Mind-boggling.
Ive never heard flute playing like this! Completely out of this world!
Everything about this performance is superb. Fantastic tome, great musicianship, stupendous technique. There is an excitement in his playing. One of the great flutists of this era.
Warm, sweet, deep and so on! The Sound master! With Dennis everything sounds amazing!
Someone give this man the accompanying orchestra instead of just a piano!
One of the best arrangements I've ever listened.
Great job! I especially enjoyed hearing your interpretation of the chords in the cadenza. Absolutely marvelous!

the cadenza is absolutely spectacular!

Wonderftul Technique, you are very talented.

The 5 people who disliked this must be some immensely orthodox violinists lol

플륫의 신이 나타났다.
fakkin beast
envy you
Al contrario, con un foro più grande è più difficile ottenere un suono grande, perché ci vuole molta più aria...
:-O :-O :-O

is your father a professional flute player too?

I play the violin....and the cadenza 16th notes crossing is just too fast....even professional doesn't play it that fast.
Shoua Xiong stop criticising such an unbelievable performance of a future great
Not sure if you’ve noticed, but that instrument he’s playing is not a violin…
