In contrast, I looked up the Marine Corps rendition of this splendidly composed jam by Sousa, and they were not as fluid. Plus, we have a lady maestro!

    Excellent and stirring Washington Post by Sousa, the "March King" ! My Brother, Uncle, two cousins and myself served in U.S. Army Ill. Nat. Guard, Peacetime 1956-59, Army WW I, and Vietnam. I used to play E flat Bass trombone four years in Band and Orchestra at South Shore High School in Chicago (1961-65) and we played Washington Post, Stars & Stripes Forever, Under the Double Headed Eagle etc. for Assemblies and ROTC Annual Federal Field Inspections and Review ! Our conductor Samuel Gorbach was a big Sousa Fan ! Those Band and Orchestra days are full of fond memories. We performed and provided the musical interlude for the 1962 School reception of Dr. James Dewey Watson of DNA fame who was a 1941 Alumnus of our High School in Chicago ! ARMY the Best ! I just watched the vice presidential debate, and somehow this march got stuck in my head - so I had to come get un-song-notized. Lovely job here. I always forget the lower dynamic intracies in the marches and get hung up on the bombast. This recording is a wonderful reminder of the beauty in this little ditties.

    All the musicians are Sargents. These players must be the cream of the crop of Army musicians. Also interesting is there’s a string bass. Very cool. Great playing

      hahaha,
      all the music players in this orchestra are not true soldiers they are professional music players which are hired by the American army, their rank are actually fake (they never hold any gun in their hands).

    • @maxkra2384
      @maxkra2384 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that all musicians in this orchestra are academic (music academic schools) and as such they get soldiers higher ranks. their role in the army is not to carry guns, instead their role is to keep the moral high and the mood high (by music entertainment).

    I only checked out this music due to Hilary Mantel in her novel Every days Mothers Day - she mentions a character right at the end of the story puts it on his deck ,swings open the patio doors, steps out to his garden and listens to this loud booming sound - now I can truly vision the ending of this mystery creepy story and say what a uplifting way to start my day in rainy old Staffordshire England 👏👏

    My grandfather was a military musician in the early 1900s in the UK. I have his piccolo. Sadly I can't play anything. My music teacher at secondary school was Lt. Col. Sam Rhodes, Senior Director of Music the Guards Division.
