Sorry Mr Professor ,you slipped up here, eg you say at 2:17 ''By the time you get to one point two'' Hold on.......... the shutter speed shown at that point is NOT 1.2 seconds..... it is HALF a second eg 1/2 !! Tut Tut !!
+inkidama tattoo. What are you talking about ? The guy on the video clearly says one point two when he should have said ''By the time you get to half a second ''' when 1/2 is shown as in this running man sequence it means HALF a second NOT 1.2 of a second, vast difference............
I'm a total beginner who just bought a Nikon D5300. I feel lucky to have a resource like this to practice/learn. Thank you very much and more power to all of you who spread knowledge instead of hate on the internet. God bless.
I have struggled with this subject for some time, I even took a class on the basics of photography, and I was just not getting it. Now after seeing the image that you posted, it all is very clear to me, and my understanding is becoming more clear, thank you very much!!
I have spent many hours on TH-cam learning how ISO, aperture and shutter speed works. This short and simple clip is the best I've seen so far. Thanks for not making a 5 min explanation into a 20 - 30 mins clip. Liked and subscribed.
That's what I love about the Internet: I can watch a video, from the other side of the globe, to find something really helpful (just half an hour away from me). Love it!
I'm VERY new to photography and the other day I sat and watched video after video about exposure and the relationship between ISO, aperture and shutter speed and this is the FIRST video I've watched that offers simple and easy to follow directions. So glad I came across this....
The fact that you endorse support and encourage this is what will help me the most. Credit to you for finding such a great tool for me to advance my comprehension. Thanks SO much!
I have just looked at ur video for 1 minute, well I can guess u are the best teacher / mentor of all on youtube.... and when i looked at comments below.... it says it all.... I subscribed you dear. Vinay
I respect your humility and for seeking the creator of this photo, not pretending it's your own work! Thank you for spreading it and educating us as well! I found this very helpful.
What's negative about that? It's great that he shares tools that he finds. I do the same with my students. It's a TOOL, not a replacement for his teaching.
Great video and very clear explanation. Kudos to you for not taking the credit for the diagram, it's nice to see someone being honest on TH-cam! Thank you :)
Good description. I would add: Although it is implicit via the numbers, each group of settings is chosen such that neighbors to either side allow double the amount of light in one direction, and half the light in the other direction. That is true regardless of whether f/stop, time, or film speed (ISO or ASA) is selected. This type of sequence has been used forever, because the difference between one set of numbers (such as f/8, 1/125 sec, ISO 100 which may give proper exposure), can be easily manipulated by changing 2 or 3 of those numbers to give an equivalent amount of light, but is used to emphasize something such as reducing the depth of field by using a large aperture (numerically small f/stop). One of the reasons for using double/half is that the eye perceives changes of 2 or 1/2 quite easily. Some systems use other numbers, but the principle is the same - a sequence defines the numbers based on a fixed percentage change. Keep up the good work.
I have this image and the traditional exposure triangle printed on a two-sided hard plastic 3 x 5 reference card I give to my students during each class. It is by far the best alternative representation of the exposure triangle and how to understand the elements of Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO.
best explanation so far... ive watched hundreds of tutorials but i think this one is the most effective short and precise explanation for dslr beginner ! thank you
This was such a great lesson regarding the exposure triangle, and rather than just looking at the picture, I will keep a link to it, so I an view quit often. Something like this you have to view over and again, to really captivate what you are saying. All I can say thank you so much for the lesson, and it was my lucky day when this lesson came up on my TV in TH-cam in the Auto mode, so I was able to view it.
Yes I took a picture of that a couple weeks back and it help a lot ..I’m very new taking pictures there still I learning photography is very interested.. thank you for the video
OMG i put this setting on my CANON EOS 30D on Manual Mode and then take some photos , and this setting just gave me some perfect sharp photos... Thanks for this video :D :D
As a begineer i really understand what FPS , aperture and ISO means now. I really appreciate that you shared this and also thank you for the author who did this. I will definitely do what you recommended. Thank you very much.
This is great for beginners to understand the three settings individually, but needs a flip side graphic to explain how they all affect exposure together.
I have indeed printed it out. It saves a lot of explaining. A picture is indeed worth a thousand words. (You cannot explain a bicycle to a blind person...you need to have a picture.)
This video and picture you showed is very useful. This video is for those beginner who dont really understand their camera settings. Thankyou Christian Tudor. Great work. Keep it up 👍
I’ve wondered for so long what the differences were between all these settings, and I spent so many hours trying by myself too , struggling with getting the results I wanted to get but with this everything have happened to become a lot easier ... I’m looking forward to recieve my new lens and start squeezing great pictures out of it using these techniques!
Also, keep an eye on the light meter. When it's leaning left of right i's under or over-exposed, when it's in the center, that's about the right exposure.
This picture represents just a basic guide , a starting point . The aperture pics do not factor in zoom length . For example you can achieve close to F2 dof at f5.6 if your focal length is at 200mm . ISO is also dependant on the camera and varied . Shutter speed and blur doesn't factor in image stabilization in this chart either. This picture is a good starting point for a beginner tho . Thumbs up .
I am really excited to try out photography. However with me I want to work with photographing landscapes as it is my favorite. I do not want to be a wedding photographer or do shoots for models. Never liked editing pictures of people but I always loved landscapes!
I'm not sure if anyone did this but I did. Here's what I found: Anthony Dejolde Freelance Writer The exact same picture so I am guessing that's the guy. I really did get more from that picture than the few books I have been reading. Thanks for your post and SPECIAL thanks to: Anthony Dejolde for posting that picture in the first place. Rusty San Diego, CA
I think the guy who created this was Daniel Peters at Hamburger Fotospots Cheatcard. It has a creative commons on it. This person operates from Germany. God bless him and you to Christian. Thanks for sharing.
The only problem I have with this diagram is the relation between subject and background at f8. At that aperture it's quite easy to get the foreground and the background in focus, that's why f8 is a good starting point for landscapes. At f22 and f32 you get a fair bit of diffraction which can soften the image. Of course if your subject is very close to the camera then a higher f-stop has to be used if you want the background to be in focus as well.
Wow, I can only say it was so clearly explained, I was having a hard time, but now I think I will print it out and being it where ever I go, Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. Watched a ton of videos and still couldn’t quite understand. This here is down to the point. I will print it and laminate it and carry it everywhere. Been struggling trying to get the concept of the triangle in photography. Sincerely Me
Went to the Web Site and the article and photo looks like it is credited to Anthony Dejolde in case you wanted to know. :) Thanks for sharing this--wonderful information here.
Probably one of the best photographer teachers on the web 👍
Thank you
Sorry Mr Professor ,you slipped up here, eg you say at 2:17 ''By the time you get to one point two'' Hold on.......... the shutter speed shown at that point is NOT 1.2 seconds..... it is HALF a second eg 1/2 !! Tut Tut !!
lovemetu you have to start your common sense running man, when watching any video...
+inkidama tattoo. What are you talking about ? The guy on the video clearly says one point two when he should have said ''By the time you get to half a second ''' when 1/2 is shown as in this running man sequence it means HALF a second NOT 1.2 of a second, vast difference............
cherrytime22 so he makes a simple error and you're the master. You're a moron and I await your amazing self produced videos.
This guy is quick and on the point. Unlike some on youtube that talk so much crap.
I'm a total beginner who just bought a Nikon D5300. I feel lucky to have a resource like this to practice/learn. Thank you very much and more power to all of you who spread knowledge instead of hate on the internet. God bless.
Thanks so much. I am an absolute novice and this used to confuse me completely. Not anymore. Thanks to you and the unknown author. Great help.
I have struggled with this subject for some time, I even took a class on the basics of photography, and I was just not getting it. Now after seeing the image that you posted, it all is very clear to me, and my understanding is becoming more clear, thank you very much!!
+Rick Saint John thanks for your feedback
this is why a course don´t really work. better practice on yourself.
Santiago A. Herrera I practice on myself all the time.
Same here Rick, I did it in college and couldn't get it, I know a girl who was in the same boat too!
Nothing better than this for learning photography
For better pics its better to learn this pic👍👍👍👍👍
I have spent many hours on TH-cam learning how ISO, aperture and shutter speed works. This short and simple clip is the best I've seen so far. Thanks for not making a 5 min explanation into a 20 - 30 mins clip. Liked and subscribed.

Thanks a million.... & you must know this - The no. of people that share this kind of info for everyone to use is small indeed! Very grateful......

*"the whole video in one thumbnail"*
Didn't like the opening line - very negative. And basically this video is just rambling about the jpg that he didn't create himself. #clickbait
F Ar eeeeeeeeeexactly!!
Beneficient Rascal that was the Point
negative intro? seriously?
What's negative about that? It's great that he shares tools that he finds. I do the same with my students. It's a TOOL, not a replacement for his teaching.
simple and easy to understand ....best photography teacher ever....
Great video and very clear explanation. Kudos to you for not taking the credit for the diagram, it's nice to see someone being honest on TH-cam! Thank you :)
Thumbs up because depth of field is shown in relation to aperture. When I was starting out, DOF was mentioned

Peter Gibson you've got to be the stupidest person alive. Hands down. Smh
the picture that is used in the video is very good, as a beginning photograph, that is very clear vision of the feature of iso, f, and ss. thank you!
