I mean, we are still the No 1 or 2 ranked team in the country for overall talent, based on ESPN. But I agree that the change is fun to watch. The media is releasing interviews with coaches who I’ve never heard speak before bc of Saban’s press policies. Now they are available and it’s fun to watch.

Demanding the new coach do things the exact same way as Nick Saban is precisely why we struggled for so long after Coach Bryant. How many former Bryant coaches & players did we burn through (all staff positions, not just head coach) hoping to resurrect his success by copy-pasting his same methods in hopes of achieving the same results?
We didn't restore Alabama football to it's rightful glory until we discarded that mentality altogether and brought in some NFL guy with absolutely ZERO Bryant ties. Someone whose only previous connections to Alabama were when he beat us every November at a rival SEC school

Saban was a god , DeBoer is the flavor of the month with an overrated resume. I’m excited about coach DeBoer . Saban is the goat but this is going to be so different I can’t wait to see what happens . I can’t wait to see what coach DeBoer does with Alabama . I don’t expect him to come in and win a national championship right off the bat it would be nice but to see what he turns Alabama into is going to be amazing to watch . I don’t know what people were expecting coach Saban was eventually going to retire at some point who did people think was going to replace him . I think they made the best choice myself . I think coach DeBoer is going to be an amazing coach and now he can take his talent and match it to some of the best players in the country and if that’s not exciting I don’t know what is. The guy can win football games he has already proven that with lesser talent. Now let’s see what he can do with the caliber of players that Alabama receives. I think people are going to very surprised what he does at Alabama and I’m looking forward to it.

I call this 90% positive to this point.
We hired the best coach we could find who was realistically available.
He has put together a solid staff.
Our 2024 recruiting class is 2nd in the country.
I wish we would have locked Grubb and Huff into contracts before the Seahawks could grab them. I'm not crazy about Nick Sheridan. What has he done?

It's DeBoer's offense, so he may have to be a little more hands on from onset, but ship will right itself.

Ya'll are getting ready to see what I saw in 1983 when coach Perkins took over for the Bear. I was 19 and remember it vividly. Bama had been great so long I couldn't even imagine Bama not being great. Then it happened. Bama was good but not great. Just a few years before ND hired Jerry Faust. I watched in amazement when ND went downhill. I couldn't believe it. Same thing with Nebraska and USC. I just thought certain programs were just pre-destined to be great no matter what. Not So. These things run in cycles and that's just the way it is. Sports, Politics, Weather, the Economy, you name it. It's gonna happen again and it won't be the end of the world.

Who says they're going to be 'light'? The only insight we've been given so far is that they'll be "lighter." That doesn't mean they're going to be categorically undersized. The reason we haven't been able to pass protect & limit QB sacks for shit the past few years is we were too slow to match the pace of DEs and LBs charging in. The reason our OL committed so many penalties in the 2nd half of games in recent years is because they got tired and frustrated. Just because they're 10-15 lbs lighter it doesn't mean they'll be ineffective.

The best OL in the country last year was “light” and manhandled a team which Alabama’s 350 pounders could not. I’m convinced the only reason Saban went the ground & pound route is he didn’t believe in Milroe or Rees. The scheme was horrid. The decision making was horrid. And the defense isn’t getting lighter at all. Keon Keeley is a monster. Jihaad & Jeremiah are ILBs who used to play edge. The corners are almost all over 6 ft. The DL is still huge and got bigger with the addition of Overton.
