These blue Spezial are awesome, I've got them too... (I own 12 pairs of Adidas... Samba, Spezial, Gazelle, Jean, Hamburg xD I'm in love so I bought a lot of colors :D) I did the same with New Balance 574, in fact :/)
I don't have Birkenstock, but some similar pairs from other brands.
Lace up is not for me.. I'm really short and I've not very thin calfs, so... it's not very flattering.
Ballet flats, and mesh ballet flats are so beautiful... but here in Belgium, it rains a lots since like 6 ou 7 months :'(
