    So I'm new here but I got to say videos like this where people fix things are inspiring. I fixed my first item myself earlier this week though my issue was less broken item and more needs minor maintnence. I have this cheap box fan I picked up several years ago. Well it started making a terrible squeaking noise a few months back. I pulled the fan appart to see if I could figure out what was making the noise earlier this week. I legetimatly tore the fan as far down as I could without ripping the wiring out of the switch or the motor but I had the full wiring harness and switch out of the case, the motor out and apart. Cleaned it up a bit while I had it apart. I had the part like the one in those grinders that burned out pulled out. There was some dried on red-ish orange-ish stuff on the shaft. I wiped it off with a sanitizing wipe. Well I figured out the bearings and the shaft were where tue squeeking was coming from and figured it needed some oil or WD-40 or something. I put an electric hair trimmer lubricating oil in the bearings and it quieted right down. It might have even started to spin at higher speeds than it was before but it might just be my imagination.

    What you could make up is a 110v plug and a metre of cable attached and a 240v plug with a metre of cable attached then on the other end a couple of WAGO connectors on each lead then when you get any tools in without plugs on you can just pull the insulation off and plug them into the WAGO connectors just to try the tool so your not having to wire plugs on just for testing purposes.

    Hi Dean,
    Your honest opinion.....
    There are lots of these 230mm grinders used for cutting heavy 100mm and even 140mm concrecte blocks.
    Past the 1 year warranty are the sole traders or very very small subbys buying these without caring about dust with a evian water bottle and / or dust musk taking liberties with these power tools angle grinders as opposed to a 12 inch or 14 inch petrol powered water injected saw.
    Your view and opinion matters as you have 10+ construction tools in your shop on a daily basis regardless OF ITS FOR FREE OR PAID for in Donegal.

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's more depth of cut and easy of use that is the main factor.
      A 9inch grinder is a lot easier to use than a 14inch con saw.
      Plus they are a much better price.

      They rebranded to Hikoki around 4-5 years ago. They are still for sale but I don’t find they sell majorly well now as the price point sits too far above the cheap dewalts for the DIY’ers and too close to the higher end ones which the trade desire more. They are good for the money though

    Does bosch or other brands make a soft starter for 9in grinders? I have a no brand grinder but the soft start died so I just took it out and hardwired the switch but its a 2200w grinder and it kicks too much when turning on, I would like to fit a soft starter into it but not those cheap chinese ones.

    • @ElMariachi1337
      @ElMariachi1337 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The old Makita GA9020 didn't have a soft start, the newer GA9020RF did, you could modify the old one with the part from the new one. But that part was about 35 euro.
      A co worker of mine put one of those chinese limiters in his old ELU table saw and that worked just fine.

    • @michaelfairchild
      @michaelfairchild 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      First step is to check, if any parts are available. Otherwise you might be hunting for other damaged/not working models to get a part to fix your tool. Also remember that in case of corded tools, that USA tools run on 110V, where most sold in Europe run on 230V, unless youre using a transformer to drop 230V to 110V. Also not all older tools are better or better build than newer ones. Same with new tools, some are amazing units and other are rubbish.

      You sure? Im not from ireland but I checked the site and they didnt even sell hikoki.
