@@elegantho how interesting! I thought she had a great personality! She’s not like everyone else on social media, she’s normal, down to earth and isn’t afraid to be herself and who she is. She seems very nice and down-to-earth. Her routine seems sensible and not irritating or overcomplicated. In fact it's much like my own, though the key products I use cost like $20 each, rather than $150 or whatever
Already my favorite, just cause this is the first person I've seen do the cleansing process correctly (at least that I can remember recently). Most either only do the balm and done, or the micellar water and done. Or the makeup wipe on raw skin, or just the cleanser without properly melting their makeup off first. And then they all rely on toners to finish the job. Someone finally did it right.
I love her personality and routine! I haven't used some of these products and haven't heard of all of them but the order and amount of products is great 😊
listening to summer girl all day every day. also since your skin is dry maybe switch out the foam for a cream cleanser or just a non foaming cleanser and apply all hydrating serums on DAMP skin then seal in with your moisturizer xo
I had problem skin and switched to only Cerave and The Ordinary and what a difference! I think I was reacting to scents etc as these products have little to none. I aim for anti- oil in Cerave and the Niacidimde was I think the biggest game changer fromThe Ordinary (it’s for oily acne prone skin) but use hyaluronic acid, retinol, copper peptides, and mandelic acid from them as well. And their moisturizer. May not work for everyone but my skin was similar. Hope this helps!!!!
Niacinamide from The Ordinary pills up for me. It’s also at such a high percentage that it is more likely to irritate people’s skin. The most efficacious percentage for Niacinamide is 2%-5%. And not sure what it is, but Cerave always irritates my skin for the first 30 seconds when I use it. I still use the lotion, but I should probably find something else lol
Also, Glycerin>Hyaluronic Acid. For those of us who live in dry climates, I don’t recommend HA as it will dehydrate your skin if there isn’t moisture in the air to pull from
Love Alana and her sisters ❤️ Girl said she wanted help so here I am giving it. I also have dry skin with some acne, but now my skin is mostly under control. What I would try if I was her is 1. switch the foam cleanser (drying) with a milk cleanser. 2. drop the high-strength glycolic acid (drying) in the peel pads, spot-treat with 2% salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide (best for acne) instead and use lactic acid (exfoliating and hydrating) for the rest of the face. 3. use a higher strength of niacinamide as well (5% or more). 4. ease into using a retinol or retinoid on the non-exfoliating days to treat the acne and to get all the other benefits. 5. talk to a dermatologist who can see your skin irl for the best advice. ✌🏼 Edit: remember, you’re beautiful as you are, with or without acne
@@dianarusnov292 You’re right, it is hydrating. However, it can cause dry skin, and since Alana’s skin is so extremely dry I think it could be helpful to try ditching anything that can be too drying. Of course it also depends on how often she’s using it.
Alana, if you're reading this: I don't have any help for getting rid of actual zits but once they're gone, the Tatcha Violet-C serum does wonders for acne scars & brightening! Also the Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask is another amazing lip mask if you wanna try that one out ❤ love you!
If you are reading this, I would recommend adding the eye cream after the serum or moisturizer. After using the cleansing balm, pat your skin instead of rubbing it. Then, if there is a little eye makeup left, your next cleanser can get it off. Or you can get a reusable cotton round and, after you apply the balm to your eye area, let it sit on your eye for a minute. The eye makeup will dissolve and become looser. You can then gently wipe it away. I feel like you would enjoy Zitsticka Goo Getter or Starface Hydro-Stars. These acne patches are good. I don't know if you use the peel pads every day, but I would recommend using them only 1-3 times a week.
This is by far one of the best skincare routines I have ever seen on this channel everything has a reason for what she is using it for and it is explained so well and her acne seems like it can handle some of the products that for other people would look a little bit not make sense with her mentioning her dry skin but I think the acne still gives her a little bit of oils but not just like before maybe it's a normal that is dehydrated and not completely dry anyway I don't think the forming cleanser is doing anything wrong and I feel that the pads are like a toner step just in another form I seriously don't see anything wrong with this routine and I absolutely love that she is incorporating approachable skincare with luxury skincare all at the same time especially knowing that you shouldn't invest in an eye cream other than the one she's using which is very affordable and she told us exactly what it is meant for and she doesn't expect anything other than that from that eye cream 👌
Love seeing someone pull their hair back and double cleanse! I have the same combo skin w cystic / hormonal acne - plus I had psoriasis patches on my cheeks and after 20 years of trying every high-end brand I’ve finally found that sticking to a very basic Barbara Sturm routine ( foam cleanser, anti-ageing serum & face cream) has cleared everything. I too use that Augustinus Bader cleansing balm first & whilst it annoys me how it has no fragrance (it doesn’t feel as luxurious when you apply because there is no ‘spa -like’ scent) it’s fabulous. People on here who worry about foam cleansers, don’t fear with that Barbara Sturm one - it’s a miracle product and a bottle lasts for ages. Alana if you read this, please try the Barbara Sturm Face Cream - I think that is what helped clear my face and my skin is just so balanced now - never dry or oily anymore and incredibly for me - no more acne or psoriasis. Also, maybe try some proper face cloths to remove the balm cleanser - it feels wonderful when you put a warm cloth of your face and let it sit there for a few secs and you also won’t tug on your skin so much when you remove the cleanser as you would be doing with that towel! Try using the muslin cloth that comes with the AB cleanser first and then branch out with others as they don’t last very long. I loved this video - thank you for being so open and real with your routine!
Alana! Here are some tips, take them if you want, but like totally skip this if u don't gaf. Also, I'm not a doctor so take this w/ a teaspoon of salt. 1. If your balm cleanser isn't getting rid of all your eye makeup, it should be! Either you're not leaving it on your eyes enough, which means you should try gently massaging the balm over them for 15 seconds, or it's not good enough, in which case try the Clinique cleansing balm! It's awesome. 2. Try retinol for your acne! Go see a dermatologist and I'm sure they can prescribe you some. Totally worth it imo. I hope this helps! But really, if you're struggling w/ your acne and you want it to get better, dermatologists are IT. Also hugs and kisses you're really lovely :)
Alana, not sure if you will read or maybe it can help someone else with cystic acne around the chin. Try a Benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, it’s great for cystic acne. Or something sulfur based, I like the PTR sulfur mask. If putting oil or any other product in your hair at night, put your hair up so the product doesn’t rub off on your skin and clog the pores. What really helped me was not reusing the same towel everyday on my face because you are just redistributing bacteria. I bought a 24 pack of wash cloths from Costco and use a new clean one each day. Simple step, huge results. I used to suffer from cystic acne on my chin and that made a big difference. Also could try a gentle retinol or retin-a. Differin is a good one.
I had that combination skin acne, cystic acne and hormonal acne around my mouth & jaw. I saw 3 dermatologists, they were all mostly useless but one said I had “bacterial acne” soooo I started washing my face with antibacterial hand soap and no more acne 😂😂😂 ( I also take birth control, I think it helps). probably not what harpers bazaar wants to hear but it worked for me!
Start putting your serums and/or moisturizers on damp skin. It will make a huge difference on the dryness. You want to lock in moisture not dryness! 💁♀️
i love her since i saw her in licorice pizza. such a positive and loveable energy and she is beautiful naturally - no botox, filler, etc. as far as i can tell :)
Lovely personality! I admire you and your sister. Here is my advice: for dry skin urea and panthenol are great. You can also use petrolatum at the end of your routine to lock moisture in
For the acne in general: differin (a pea size for the whole face). I use gel coz I'm oily af, but there's a cream too. Anyway, for cystic acne, I use the 10% sulfur ointment to spot treat for 20 minutes before the rest of your skincare (on clean face or at least that area, then double cleanse coz there tends to be residue if washed with foaming cleanser or water only). As for dry skin, I have dry lips and the corners of my nose! I know, the irony of my oily face and nose but the corners get dry. I use aquaphor after moisturizer. I'd recommend that to anyone who doesn't have lanolin allergy. It's cheap and multi-purpose. I even use it on my shins after shower, when the air is super dry. And for the cleanser, I'd recommend this to anyone dry, oily or sensitive: Aveeno baby cleansing therapy moisturizing wash. That's my recommended 2nd cleanser. I'd like an oil cleanser too but unfortunately, I have yet to find one that my skin likes; right now my first cleanser is ye old Garnier micellar.
"I probably should get some eye makeup remover" Most eye makeup removers are actually just oil based cleansers in liquid form and in smaller packaging. Cleansing balms are generally equally (and sometimes even more) effective as eye makeup removers. Unless your favourite cleansing balm/oil hurts your eyes, there's no need to use a separate product to remove eye makeup. Making sure that your eyelashes are all coated in oil cleanser by gently massaging them in back and forth motions on the under side of you lashes can help significantly in removing even waterproof mascara. Then, gently massage in downwards motions to bring the dissolved product off of your lashes. Spending up to a minute _gently_ ensuring your eyelashes are fully coated in cleansing oil and ensuring all the product is dissolved is a highly effective way to remove eye makeup, and is generally much gentler on the skin and lashes than using product on cotton pads.
She's awesome, but I think she may have dry skin because she washes her face too much. After a shower, I just put some toner (no alcohol) or aloe vera (plant) or oil of Olay or serum on. She is correct, I don't neglect the neck and ears. Sun block and hats during the day are good.
