I played through my cart for the first time in 25 years. Played through it a million times and did not know about the rat tail and the other summons. I also did not know about the grind spot in the Giant. Awesome guide!
Thanks a lot, and to your wife as well for all those really cool enemy stat cards. I really enjoyed this video, and it was a fun trip down memory lane for one of my favorite games. I had beaten the original Final Fantasy and however many Dragon Warrior games were out in the U.S. by then, but FF2(4) was by far better than any other RPG I had played so far. The scene where Tellah died was the first time I cried while playing a video game. This is really the game that kickstarted my lifelong love for the Final Fantasy series. At one point, I decided to try to level every character up to level 99. Unfortunately, due to some problems with the battery backup on the physical cartridge, after a few years my game would periodically erase all of its saved data. I managed to get Dark Knight Cecil to Lv. 99 with many, many hours of grinding on the Peninsula of Power. I tried with Edward, but I lost my save data twice, both times when he was around level 60. I managed to get Meteo for Rydia when she was still a child. It was pretty funny to have her casually cast Meteo, and then later having it be a critical plot point for Tellah. One of my fan theories is that the developers originally planned to have Edward, Yang, Cid, Palom, and Porom all be playable characters at the end, so that you could swap them out like in FF6. Why else would they all make miraculous recoveries at the Giant of Bab-il? Why would Palom and Porom be able to learn all spells? Why would Edward's stats skyrocket after level 70? I'd be curious if anyone can confirm this. It is also my suspicion that the original FF4, which was supposed to be for the Famicom, was not really cancelled but rather upgraded to Super Famicom and became the game we know as FF5; hence FF5 feels more like FF3 than like FF4.
Watching this video bought back some good memories of my friends & I spending hours & days playing Final Fantasy games. I might have to re-play the series once again. Great video, keep up the great work!
Out of all the games I watched you beat, I think this was my favorite set of videos to watch. FF4 will always be one of my absolute favorites. Hopefully we see FF6 one day
@UCanBeatVideoGames - To reecho the sentiments of many of the other commentators here, thank you sincerely for all of the hard work put into this series. FFIV isn't flawless, but it is still my pick for favorite RPG of the ones I've played so far. I was pumped to see that you were covering it. Even though I can no longer be surprised by the plot development, I still find the story to be very meaningful and moving (and quite often amusing). The characters with their diverse personalities are endearing. Even though other games from the genre offered more flexibility, I like the balance they struck between the static job classes of the characters and the rotation of characters in and out of the party. Once again, thanks for all of the work, all of the thorough, well-presented information, and the entertaining commentary. Now... having counted at least a half-dozen Star Wars references during this series, I'm going to go rewatch some of the game coverage you did from that franchise to compare how many Final Fantasy references you made. 😆 P.S. When I went to fill in some tax forms a few weeks ago, the very first page of the system had the heading, "Let's get started!" I couldn't help but hear your catchphrase as I read it. Also coincidental, the commercial that played for me at the end of this video was for the upcoming movie "IF", and it starts with the line, "What if I told you..." Too bad the odds of dropping a pink tail aren't as high as the odds of that happening. 😅
I just realized what is special about these games, what puts them above the rest. There is such a ridiculously large amount of monster variety, and the design of each one is immaculate. Like how amazingly beautiful and cool is the pixel art on all of the mons. Each level has several completely new one, not overly relying on reskins. I just tried to play sea of stars and got stuck on this large are where there is only one enemy type and the enemy designs are all uninspiring. It makes me not want to play. But in final fantasy games you want to play just to see what you’ll find next.
The Red Giants in the palace is not a bug or a glitch. It's actually a programing error that left a lot of junk information in the dungeons. A lot of maps have strange "hidden" itens in bizarre positions because of this. Also, there is another Steal glitch in this game that the video didn't talked about. If you steal an iten from an enemy an that enemy is the first to fall in that battle, you glitch it possible drop to skip the common iten drop. Also, if the iten in the uncommon and rare drop are the same of the common slot, you will have a 100% chance to get the very rare drop of that enemy. Because of this, is veeeeery easy to get the Bomb summon from Grenades in the Babil Tower or the Zeus Glove from the Iron Giant of Cave of Eblan.
Oh man, the best has yet to come! I can't wait to relive all this. I'm tempted to just play through the game myself instead of watching....nah, imma watch!
I absolutely loved this game when I was younger. I think I've played through it at least three times. I have since lost nearly 100% of my vision and can't play classic RPGs like this anymore. But this very detailed, in-depth walkthrough really scratched that itch. It's like I was able to play through a favorite game again. I really appreciate what you're doing and the level of detail you provide. Thanks so much!
I have been playing this game on and off since 1991 on original SNES cart and Wii/WiiU e-shop versions. In the 33 years (seriously has it been that long, and am I that old?) I have NEVER found a pink tail. I have played the pixel remaster versions and finally obtained a pink tail with the help of the alert item.
The chances of finding Pink Puffs and getting a Pink Tail from one are not much better than finding a Baboon in this game and getting a pink tail off of it. 😆
Okay so i went back and found the milestones i was looking for: First Kylo appearance was Ghost and Goblins First Mance appearance was Cobra Triangle Super tiny Mance puppy power!
This is why I never miss an episode 😊 thanks for all the hard work that went into this series! It must've been very time consuming but it definitely amazed. Keep up the great work!
Your videos are so incredible. I really enjoy them all. This one was a massive part of my childhood rpg experience. Me and brother spent hundreds of hours mastering this one. His favorite was 8, but I always liked the story of this game more than all the others.

I always appreciate your (and your wife’s) enthusiasm and attention to detail with these classics that have shaped me into the gamer I am today! Thanks, I will patiently await the next subject
My favorite part of your series is that you touch on deep concepts without spending a huge amount of time on them. For instance, I never heard about the negative floors before watching this, and I think you could have spent hours deep diving it, but it's not germane to the guide. It's just a teaser for people that want to go down that rabbit hole.
I wanna personally thank you and your wife, i have been waiting for all 4 parts, and i must say this one is your best work yet, this game is still my favorite of all FF games, awesome work!!
Thank you for this series. FF2 was The Golden Goose in the day for SNES. Got it used in 94 from weekly mailed catalog of used games when I was a wee lad. I can’t remember the name of it. It wasn’t Funco is was another homie. Good luck finding a new Final Fantasy 2 box that game was hard to find. Your Dogs are great!
I *FINALLY* have some free time to watch the rest of this with my brother this week! Both of us love this game (it was the first mainline Final Fantasy I beat) and are excited to see it to the end. Even though we're only about an hour in, I already know from previous videos on this channel just how thorough these guides are. It's clear that you have a love and passion for these games, and it shines through! Thank you! And I'm eagerly awaiting the day you decide to cover Final Fantasy VI!
FF4 is my absolute favorite and always will be. I first played it in middle school when it got released with Chrono Trigger, my fav jRPG, on the PS1. Advance was awesome with its bonuatuuree e 3D mix was great too
My first RPG was the original FF on the NES. Sadly, I hadn't discovered "grinding" yet, so I was stonewalled at the Marsh Cave. FF "4" was a game I rented, but I couldn't get past the Lodestone Cave. Going in with weak, non-metal gear didn't occur to me until much later. The Dark Elf was truly my Arch-Enemy back then. It wasn't until FF "6" that I completed a game in this franchise during the era of its release.
What an amazing story. Thank you very much for taking us on this journey and showing us everything. Your videos are incredible. Thanks for all of your and your wifes work and effort.

I don’t know if it’s something used for a certain version of the game, but a strat I’ve seen speed runners use in Final Fantasy IV: Free Enterprise (the randomizer version of this game) for the Plague fight is to berserk their melee fighters. I think it’s a glitch that essentially makes it to where the berserked players will always get a turn before the death counter reaches zero.

At 22:16 , Rydia's magic is at 210mp, and at 22:53 it's at 185mp. I asked around about the glitch, and it turns out that in the US release of the game, the Sylph cost is free whenever Rydia isn't in the middle party slot. It was free when the glitch was originally pointed out because she was in the 2nd slot from the top, rather than the middle. Very weird stuff. Thanks to the Final Fantasy: Free Enterprise community for helping me understand this (Wylem specifically looked into the code). Also really interesting how these ideas of how to do the glitch got around. I used to hear that you needed a specific party formation at end-game to get the glitch to work before learning how it really works.
Masamune, like many Japanese words is best pronounced by breaking it up into syllables per vowel, so Ma-sa-mu-ne. The sword is named after a famed blacksmith from the 13-14th century. I love your videos and I know it can be difficult to know that this is even a historical Japanese name being used for a sword, but it is a name that gets used in a lot of fiction and games for swords and characters so I hope that this can help you in the future
Thank you for this. One of the most instrumental games in my life. Made me fall in love with RPGs even more. I had played and beat FF and Dragon Warrior but RPGs wasn't my jam until this changed everything.
When I was a kid, I briefly played Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy 1, but I didn't progress very far in those games. It wasn't because of their high difficulty, rather, it was because they never gave me a reason to care. Final Fantasy 2(4), on the other hand, was the first RPG I ever played that had memorable characters and a good story. It has its flaws, but it will always be a special game for me because it was the first RPG that made me care. Thank you very much for making these videos! "We were heading towards the robot's crotch so ask yourself what this missile shaped room might be." "As you can see, the robot remains erect, so if we want to take it down, we need to delve deeper." I died and never noticed this. I've beaten the game so many times, too.
You are awesome at explaining the tech behind stuff, however, I'm adding an input that might be useful. In Hard Mode and the later variants, there's an item that can be dropped by most enemies as an incredibly rare drop, in the PS1 and GBA versions, it's called "Golden Apple" and it allows you to increase the Max HP of a character, all the way up until 9999, that was most likely intended for the Bomb summon and might be why it's based upon HP, as that would make sense for an intended method. Just a tidbit I figured I'd add after I got to the Bomb summon section, keep it up, I love watching these. 😁

@@zalden2565 True. They probably didn't really expect anyone to find it. On the other hand, they made the Gentlemen's Club in Toroia and even the I-read-it-for-the-articles magazine in the Japanese version much more accessible. I wonder what that means? 🤔
I know these kinds of videos must take a long time but I really appreciate the hard work and quality.
45:32 Kain: We did it! 🤨🤨🤨 Never noticed that one
Hopefully we see FF6 one day
1:20:50 You got me with that "cheat code" line, lol. My ears perked up and then the "B A ... H A M U T" :)
Your channel has the best gameplay walkthroughs on TH-cam! Love seeing your next video drop. Thanks for all your insights on glitches and mechanics.
This guy is so great, one of the few channels when I'll let the ads play out 'cause he deserves that $$
Oh man, the best has yet to come! I can't wait to relive all this. I'm tempted to just play through the game myself instead of watching....nah, imma watch!
Why not both?
Okay so i went back and found the milestones i was looking for:
First Kylo appearance was Ghost and Goblins
First Mance appearance was Cobra Triangle
Super tiny Mance puppy power!
First reference of punching Nazis dozens of times in the groin was Bionic Commando. 😆
This is why I never miss an episode 😊 thanks for all the hard work that went into this series! It must've been very time consuming but it definitely amazed. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for all of your work on this. I grew up in the nes/snes era, and loved this game as a fantasy-filled youngling.
Your videos are so incredible. I really enjoy them all. This one was a massive part of my childhood rpg experience. Me and brother spent hundreds of hours mastering this one. His favorite was 8, but I always liked the story of this game more than all the others.
Every one of these awesome deep dives you’ve made for a game I always thought I had mastered, some new or obscure tricks or lore is presented to me. I always appreciate your (and your wife’s) enthusiasm and attention to detail with these classics that have shaped me into the gamer I am today! Thanks, I will patiently await the next subject
Hurray! Lazy Sunday and ive found my afternoon!
Thank you for continuing this amazing channel!
My favorite FF of all time. Played through it many many times. Thanks for uploading these vidz to honor a classic RPG that is dear to my heart.
Love these retro games and hard work that are put into them
FF4 is my absolute favorite and always will be. I first played it in middle school when it got released with Chrono Trigger, my fav jRPG, on the PS1. Advance was awesome with its bonuatuuree e 3D mix was great too
Thank you
I relived playing through almost 20 hours of work at work!
That PinkPuff battle just blew my mind. I've played through this game over and over and never seen that.
Thanks for the upload! I've been waiting for this!
Awww, this is my favorite game, and my birthday is on Wed - was hoping the final part would come out then lol
Happy Bday fellow Aries
Tuesday for me
@@inrainbows1829 Happy birthday, mr April 9th :)
good to know I'm not the only hot head around these parts
@@Bjorick appreciate it
And I'm definitely a hot head 😀

I think this might be the most well-edited, best-presented, most thorough, and most complete guide for a JRPG Ive ever seen.
Thank you soooo much for doing this FF!! This was my favorite game as a teenager and the nostalgia hit me strong watching your vids.
Just discovered your channel. The amount of work you put into these videos is insane. Also, don't take it the wrong way, but I've found your videos pull double duty/ If I am having a hard time falling asleep, I put one on. Maybe the nostalgia relaxes me?
Thank you for covering this game. It is still one of my favorites of all time.
I've enjoyed this journey quite a lot! Hooray for our Paladin, the mighty UCBVG!
I'm truly glad that @UCanBeatVideoGames decided to climb Mt. Ordeals and become a Paladin. Before then when he was still Dark Knight UCBVG, he used to review obscure soap opera episodes from the 80s and 90s instead. It was painful to watch. ;)
Been waiting for this to drop! Great series, thank you so much. Now for the finale!
Bro it was my 1st true rpg as well and your ending comments were on point. Such an awesome game thanks for sharing all the secrets I've missed over the years!
It's always fantasy with light steampunk until you are fighting a supercomputer inside a robot from the moon.
You're a legend! I know it's an insane amount of work but I hope we see more rpgs on your channel. The Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy videos are my favorites.
Brought back so many memories.
I used to have game genie codes memorized!
Excellent series of videos. A LOT of work went into these, and it shows. Much gratitude and love to you! Thanks!
That was an epic journey. Thanks for the fun walkthrough
I LOVE the commentary. Thank you for your talents!!
Man, once again I salute the insane work and quality you put in your videos. Awesome as always
Ah one of my favorite SNES games 😁😁😊😊
My all-time favorite rpg from any platform, thank you for this series, truly amazing. I'm sure you have a list of games you're going to do videos on, but may I suggest The Secret of Mana, my 2nd favorite rpg of the snes platform . The battle sytem is so fun and the story is awesome. Thank you for your videos.
I love your humor! Its not over done at all but man it sings when it sings. Lmao yangs wife will be happy to see him indeed!!
love the hard work you put into these vids!
1:43:30 Can't you use the Life item (or Spell) for an insta-kill on the D. Bone? Instead of using Cure 4? Am I remembering that wrong?
It wasn't my first rpg...but it was the first that made me fall in love with the genre. It has a special part in my childhood
I loved that you showed the D Machine grind. You can gain so much more experience using a life glitch along with it.
Major props to your wife for making those "monster-dex" entries!
These videos are my favorite way of re-experiencing these classic games. I really hope you eventually do FF6, Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, and more
What a ride! Thanks for making this video, it really took me back and now I feel like playing FFIV again!
Yesssss finally. Thank you❤ I love this and final fantasy 6 as the best.
There was also a code for billions of experience during the 1st battle and another 1 where if you got hit it cause your permanent HP to go up into the billions also i broke this game so many times and had a blast doing it
Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your love for this game really shows. Well done. 👍🏻 And I learned a thing or two.
This game has a special place in my mind and heart as well.
"We were heading towards the robot's crotch so ask yourself what this missile shaped room might be."
"As you can see, the robot remains erect, so if we want to take it down, we need to delve deeper."
I died and never noticed this.
This music takes me back to when I was a kid watching my brothers play this game and mystic quest…. I loved them then and I do now still squaresoft has been a huge part of my life
The climactic final battles! I've been excited to see this, but also afraid to see it end.
41:46 “As you can see, the robot remains erect…” 😂 😂
The wait is over!! I love this game. What a blast of nostalgia. You've made me want to go back and play FFIV for the first time in over 15 years. This game is truly a classic, and one of the best, most important Final Fantasies ever made. The final boss is still an absolute banger!
" I have waited oh so loooong...
...please dont tell me baby. I was wrong ....
..dreaming of you every night...
.....holding back till the time was right....ive counted the days... "
Okay im done singing ...thank you for making my Sunday today good sir... i havent been this excited since the dragon warrior III conclusion episode! ... been re watching all your rpg guides this past weeks!
You are continuing to get better and better in show quality every episode and I for one appreciate you taking the time to do it right ... Ive been here since i was subscriber 947....just under 1000...and I'll be here when you break 1 million!
Rosa (after being told to stay behind): "I've trained for the Fra Mauro highlands. And this... is *flight surgeon horsesxxt*, Cecil!"
My favorite video game. I recall watching my cousin Courtney beat it, when we went to visit her in Tennessee. That set my course to loving FF games. Thanks to YCBVG and his dear wife.
I love this game so much, I've been on the fence about watching these videos right away because I want to play through it again myself first! Of course I've cleared it numerous times in my life so I can't really be "spoiled", but it's still exciting to faces all the challenges again myself. Still, the content is too good to pass up!
You should be really proud of this one man. Outstanding commentary.
I used to farm arrows from the 'Kary' enemy. it's how to build up the Artimis arrows.
Werewolf: The Last Warrior please🙏
Ima add this to my wishlist!!!
This series was EPIC! Thank you very much.
Such a thrilling conclusion. I recently played through FFIV and know what a time commitment it is, and I'm not doing video editing. I appreciate all the work you put into this.
I hope that he can play final fantasy 6 next. I can't wait to get his opinion on that game!
This is one of my favorite youtube channels! Can you please do one for Dick Tracy on NES? I had that game as a kid and I always wanted to beat it. I know for sure other channels have walkthroughs and stuff for that game but you're the best channel for walkthroughs!

I hate this about jrpgs, they make certain super awesome gear be super very hard to get, for no apparent reason
Ngl that ending cut scene in the final battle when your party is being revived and cured chokes me up a little.
