    Nice video, _finally_ something focused on history instead of ghost stories. A lot of history in that area, it's unfortunate that it's isolated & left to vandals. To think it went from well used road & neighborhood to just dirt trails. History can be lost very easily.

      I think the Midlothian Turnpike was the only toll road in Illinois to ever get turned into a free highway.....?! Thank-you for the nice words. I prefer a quiet documentary as compared to a busy one where there is always narration. The pictures will tell the story very easily if the viewer is giver the chance to just watch.

    Close to twenty years ago, was when I first started visiting BG. At that time, a grave in the southwest corner had been partially exhumed. Creeped the heck out of me. I'm glad there are neighbors who keep an eye on the place!!!

    Thank-you for that. I think the cemetery is getting a long deserved clean up, and your information helps to fill out additional history. I had previously guessed that those old houses must have been built on large open lots ( small farms?) and the woods closed in only after the Forest Preserve purchased the land. I'm also interested in the natural springs in the area and wonder if the land to the west is also swampy?

      Yep, being a Chicago native I can definitely attest to the city (and surrounding areas) have some really haunted areas. Last time I was at Bachelor's grove I ended up very sick, and I'm not one who gets sick very often.

    The Cemetery is supposedly under the care of Cook County (not the Forest Preserve). There is also a scout troop doing some of the light landscaping. The BG "Hidden History" video was recorded outside of the cemetery, and in the Forest Preserve. I have other BG videos, you can search by using the search channel feature. My "BG You Decide" is one of my more recent videos.

      Thank-You for viewing. The Forest Preserves are usually very nice places to spend time. Here, there are many extras like all the phenomena in the Cemetery. But, where I have real fun, is in tracing the creek and the old Turnpike! Thank-You for viewing and commenting!

  • @ipfeldspar

    I completely agree. I have a couple of misc videos where I refer to the old foundation and the image looks like a patch of weeds. Thank You for viewing and commenting!

    Wondering what year this was filmed? My last visit there was around 1999 and it was a wreck! Things look much 'nicer' in this video.

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was in 2012. I started visiting about 1990, and yeah, it was trashed (including the grave that was half dug up). I have more BG videos on my "Ghost & Paranormal" Playlist. It has been a couple years since my last visit, but each time I go, it seems to get a little better. Thank-You for viewing and commenting!

    the road was still in use in 1951 you can still see the house on west side of stream in the old aerials (1939)

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  ปีที่แล้ว

      The road is my favorite part of the woods. I think it could be cleaned up a bit to make a trail?

  • @ipfeldspar
    @ipfeldspar  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, that's good stuff! I wish I had a forest like that to explore. Can you tell me more about the condition of the old road? I've been wanting to hike it to the west but just never had the time. Were the woods as overgrown then? Was there still open area around the road? How much of the old foundations were around then? Thank-you in advance!

  • @ipfeldspar
    @ipfeldspar  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a hobby I'd like to get involved with. Have you explored the old Midlothian Turnpike all the way through the woods? That's a hike on my "to-do" list.

    I live practically within walking distance from Bachelor's Grove and have never been there and would never go there. There is just too much bad energy there from the decades of disrespect and neglect. I wouldn't want that bad energy with me. I did once drive by the entrance as I watched people going down the path. Moments later, a wave of nausea hit me as I drove home. Don't know why that happened, but I took it as a "don't come back here again" warning.

      I have to say that I agree with your assessment. I've been there at night with friends (decades ago) maybe twice. I never witnessed any supernatural/paranormal phenomena, but I never got a good feeling from that place, either.

    thats the same dude that gave me tour threw it all neat stuff he says but i agree with him i have never seen anything after he showed me i went back a few times later dates and such but still never found saw heard a damn thing

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Craig Friday Most of what he showed me, I had already found. However, I found those spots by either dumb luck or really cuz I tend to lost back in there. The old Turnpike helped me find one set of foundations. Another spot I found only because I was tracing the creek upstream.

  • @ipfeldspar
    @ipfeldspar  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe that the now abandoned portion of the Midlothian Turnpike, had a goodly number of homes and farms bordering the road. I'd like to know more about when the old road was abandoned, and the creation of Rubio Woods.

    MY ROOMMATES BROTHER HAD NYs LARGEST ANTIQUE BOTTLE COLLECTION FROM DIGGING UP OLD OUTHOUSE PITS. HE'D PUSH A STEEL ROD INTO THE GROUND TO FIND THEM.

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup! A lot of people used the outhouses as a garbage dump Since to bottom of the wet pits were loaded with soft "mud," those bottles had a chance of surviving the drop! Thank-you for viewing!!!!

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Around Elmhurst, everyone had a "trails" or "woods." I just don't think that I would I would do that much partying at BG. The crowd that I hung out with would be so busy goofing off that they would miss the poltergeists stealing the beer.

    ya know, a person could probably check old records and find out all about who owned this, what was there, etc. And as far as the old cemetery, I think most of it's just teenage hype.

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of Historians have gone through the old records. What I find interesting, is that the name is slightly off. It would appear that in the old days, there was a "Batchelder" family. Over the years that morphed into Bachelor. Thank-You for viewing, commenting, and giving History some serious thought!

    lovely video :) i think all cemetaries should be taken care of,just out of respect for the dead,if i had the money,id build little cabins on all those foundations,i think it would look lovely :)

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a pretty good idea. The structures could be used as nature learning centers and the increased number of folks visiting would probably discourage vandalism. I also agree as to respecting the cemetery by better taking care.

    Any paranormal vibes or sightings while filming this video?

    • @ipfeldspar
      @ipfeldspar  ปีที่แล้ว

      In all honesty I enjoy the phantom zone better than the humans! There are a lot of weirdos who hang in Forest Preserve parking lots, then there are the loud mouth riiff-raff types who visit just to run their mouths. I had only one unexplained event. I was close to the big monument when something came down from a tree. The weird part was the speed that the object fell, as if someone had hurled it hard. I tried looking for whatever fell and nothing could be found. I have another video "EVP at Bachelors Grove." When I was in the cemetery it was a nice day and no anxiety. When I went to edit the video, the audio made my hair stand on end! I hope that answers your question. Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!
