Performance monitoring and alerting are very crucial to measure the performance metrics of an application running in a production environment. In this getting started tutorial , we are going to talk about two popular open-source tools Prometheus and Grafana also along with that we are gonna setup a node exporter-

Can you explain how we can generate custom metrics from our instances and store in prometheous. Then use the same to visualize in grafana.
Hi that's a great video.
Can you help me to find a solution to absent metrics.. It seems that we keep receiving false alerts on absent metrics. Is there a way where we can stop this false alerts.
1) Is there any other alternative function instead of absent function which does the same work.
2) silencing an alert stops only the absent metric alert or stops entire genuine occurring alert as well..
3) what happens if we reboot the alert manager will the false/in-active alert dissaper?

HI Rahul Would like to know how you are stooping the Prometheus server is there any command or shortcut to do that. I'll be waiting for your revert.
Hi i am running the the Prometheus server in the forground mode so simply pressing ctrl+c should stop the prometheus server. If you are running the same prometheus server in the background then you much kill the process with the process id example - kill -9

Can you take a session on Virtual machines if using a Windows based laptop? Its configuration since few of us may not have access to a Linux machine and getting a dual boot does not work,
Can you also include the Mac commands Also if the yml file gets changed
I will make a note of it and will prepare something around it in upcoming months

While installing helm plugin
It says
Error: exec: "sh": executable file not found in %PATH%
Why are you using helm plugin for installation of prometheus and grafana?

./node_exporter command we can not keep continuously running, how to detach it after starting node exporter?
You have to use && symbol in end of the command , it will runs in backend.
@Rahul How to find the process id of Prometheus on Ubuntu systems
Here are few commands which you can use to fine the prometheus process -
1. ps aux | grep prometheus
2. pgrep -f prometheus
3. systemctl status prometheus

@RahulWagh. Maybe someone brought this up: It looks step3 should be "cd prometheus-x.xx.x.linux-amd64" not "cd prometheus-x.xx.x.linux-amd64.tar.gz", right?
