Thanks for sharing this tip. It is easier to do it this way than the way I normally do it. I will definitely try this on the next one I get that has a wider tip bevel.
Now I understand what 'parallel' to the tip means. Thanks for that Gunny, however when the knife doesn't have a pivot point how does one determine the centre line. Chef knife and pretty well all kitchen knives?
Hey, good tip. I have been drawing a line on the blade from the recasso to the tip. Then positioning the blade in the clamp with the line parallel to the clamp. This minimizes the variance of the thickness of the secondary bevel of the knife. It takes a bit of extra work on the first sharpening because the blade is being "re-profiled" a bit. Either way is ok... I appreciate another tool in my kit. Thanks again. : )
So much I need to learn im still pretty bad at fixed systems haha soon once my mounts come in for poltava cbn stones I can use them on my jende jigs and I think I'll try my Umnumzaan out
What sharpener do you use? I have the worksharp precision adjust elite, and I love it I think it’s great for the money - but the stones don’t last nearly long enough. They’re individually replaceable on the “tri-brasive” arms but they’re 7$ a piece and they wear out pretty quickly, so I’m looking to upgrade to a better sharpener.
Try means failure. Do the right thing and do it right. Funny it is obvious you were not a USMC veteran. Maybe you’re a British or Ukrainian Marine….. 😊😊😊😊

Use the first pin in the handle or just draw a straight line back from the tip and use that straight line to line things up.

Checkout Gritomatic they have stone and stone holder upgrades.
