Hey. This is one of the most SPOT. ON. top 10 anything ever put on the web. Congrats! And special mentions goes to the inclusion of Alien Storm and The Punisher. Both are pretty dope for the very reasons that you mentioned yet both are somehow underrated and/or overlooked.
Now watching this makes me want to do my own "Top 10 best Mega Drive co-op beat 'em ups", which is what I gonna do right now:
    1° Sword of Sodan
    2° Rastan Saga II
    ...
... okay, just kidding! 🤣 Now here's the real deal 😎:
    1° Streets of Rage 3
    2° Streets of Rage 2
    3° Golden Axe III
    4° Streets of Rage
    5° MazinSaga
    6° Comix Zone
    7° The Punisher
    8° Crude Buster
    9° Golden Axe II
    10° Alien Storm
    Honorable mentions:
    - Golden Axe (an excellent port for its time, indeed, but the sequels are just better games overall)
    - Mystical Fighter (very fun but feels a bit cheap, almost like a Taiwanese bootleg)
    - TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist (should have been better than Turtles in Time on SNES but early Konami games on Mega Drive were underusing the hardware in many ways)
    - Splatterhouse 3 (didn't play it a lot yet but very cool brawler/exploration with excellent atmosphere)
    - Battletoads/Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team (would rank higher had it got better hitting SFX)
So here it is. And don't hesitate to do more top 10 like this man, you got it right! 🤘

We have very similar tastes. My honorable mentions would have been
      1. Two Crude Dudes. Really like this one (Graphics, music, challenge, atmosphere and enemy variety) just miss doing combos and wish it wasn't limited to a single plane.
      2. Battletoads Double Dragon. Not a huge fan of the none beat em up elements. I want my PCM drums Rare! Still really fun with solid mechanics and graphics.
3 Mystical Fighter. Mystical Fighter loses points for below average graphics/animation and only having one palette swapped playable character with the same moves.
I wish I could say Power Rangers the Movie because the OST is sensational, graphics are good and moveset is serviceable. It just completely lacks any challenge or meaningful enemy variety turning it into a legitimate mindless experience.
If we were including single player on beat em ups. Splatterhouse 3 (The Japanese version* The U.S. version had it's balancing ruined more then SOR 3)
Comix Zone obviously. Mazin Saga is solid I just wish it was 2P and the 1 vs 1 fighter elements weren't included despite being impressive visually.
Lastly, shout out to Growl "Runark" another that boggles my mind a 2P option wasn't included. Still really fun and unique. Most Taito published Genesis games all looked pretty underwhelming with blah colors and stiff animation this one is no different.

@@supersexysega LOL, dafuk I was thinking? I included 1 player games in my "co-op top" haha... I guess that I'm just too used to do tops without additional rules or restrictions so I completely ditched the co-op part as soon as I started my top :P
Well, beat 'em ups is clearly a genre where a co-op option is much welcome, so much fun to play those games with a friend! But some 1 player beat 'em ups are great too if they are designed as is.
Case in point: MazinSaga, where a co-op option wasn't necessary (and I guess doesn't make sense regarding the plot? I never read that manga)
Runark on the other hand, I totally agree with you, total joke, even more since the game throws TONS of enemies at you so getting just another 1 sprite on-screen that could serve as the 2nd player shouldn't have been an issue.
But yeah, Taito games on MD feel a bit dry overall, clearly not on the same level as Namco or Toaplan MD games. There are some very good ones i.e. Space Invaders 90, Darius II, Volfied and The Flinstones but the remaining ones are mostly mediocre.
And yeah, we more likely have very similar tastes! But that's something I've already noticed when reading some comments of yours around ;)

@@ryzmaker11 Yea I have read your comments and always considered you in the "elite" category for Mega Drive knowledge.
I made this 2-player beat em ups because I have an older brother within 2 years of age and co-op play became so important to me during my childhood. I didn't think I was going to give 1-player only beat em ups there fair due.
While porting Runark let's throw 11 enemies on screen at once! Think we need co-op?.... Naw not important 😂
I still like the Taito port of Cadash as well, despite its shortcomings. Thunder Fox though they actually used an 8-Mb cart and it was still pretty underwhelming.
I am a lazy **** I was going to do more videos just shooting my mouth off about other top of lists.

Dude, I've been seeing your comments on Sega videos for the longest time. I didn't know you had a channel. Subbed!
Aww man, I got Captain America and the Avengers for the SNES one Christmas. What a tragedy that was. 😔 Just for the sake of discussion, how about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie? I was too old for the source material at the time, but giving it a chance now, it's pretty good for a licensed game.

    • @supersexysega
      @supersexysega  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yea I figure at somepoint I have to come out of the closet and do more then just comment 😂
Thanks for the support. Power Rangers the Movie on Genesis is super solid especially for a licensed game. The soundtrack is top tier. It's a late 95' release so the graphics are good in a relative sense to most of it's contemporaries.
The hit detection and combat is spot on. The movesets are pretty limited but you have 6 different Rangers and two Zords you play as for variety.
Where the game completely falls apart for me is the least amount of enemy variety in a beat em up I have ever seen (the ooze monsters and putties) that's it for standard enemies. To make things worse they don't even palette swap them and have different variants with individual strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, the game presents the player no challenge whatsoever even on the hardest difficulty setting.
I still playthrough Power Rangers the Movie once a year or so it's perfectly competent and people looking for an easy pick up and play beat em up will definitely enjoy it.
The beat em ups that were in competition with Captain America for the 10th spot for me were Two Crude Dudes and Battletoads Double Dragon. Crude Dudes I miss the combos style gameplay and vertical screen movement. Battletoads Double Dragon is super solid but when I play a beat em up I want to do just that. The platforming elements/hazards this game has aren't that fun to me.
*** Also Captain America for the SNES must have been a heart breaker. Talk about a trash port ***

That is one of the most concise and insightful breakdowns for a top ten list that I have heard on TH-cam. I even agree with most of it, but I would move TMNT to the ten spot, it's just too damn monotonous, and easy. Thanks for the video!

    • @supersexysega
      @supersexysega  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the compliment! Monotonous and easy is a big plus for some retro beat em up fans apparently. Recently had someone say they prefer Final Fight 2 over Streets of Rage 2 and I went comatose 😂

I actually loved the r rated late night Cinemax my parents would be mad if they saw me watching vibe of the Original SOR more than the sequel... and that theme . dun dun dan dun dun don dun dan dun dun... ---love it (but accidently hitting the special attack was always a thing)

Love your video! Golden Axe 2 is one of my favorite games on the Genesis and I'm finally glad to see someone who appreciates it correctly /on point, instead of all these people saying that the first one is the best and the other two are average. Then, Golden Axe 3, I agree it is a good game but presentation/graphics are ugly/grainy. A bigger cart could have helped and maybe a little bit more time in development. Now you make me want to play Captain America that I don't really know and Punisher that I've just played once or twice real quick. New subscriber here!

    • @supersexysega
      @supersexysega  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much!
The original Golden Axe and rose tinted goggles "nostalgia" go hand in hand. GA2 was an improvement in every way. Especially in the fluidity of the combat system and the meaty drum samples. GA3 medicore graphics and all I just absolutely love the huge movesets and variety.
Keep your expectations low on Captain America. The actual combat system isn't very satisfying. Great music and the Marvel license really help the overall appeal.
Views on The Punisher seem to vary quite a bit. I really like the game. I would advise to not play it on the very hard difficulty. It turns the game into an absolute boring slog that takes an hour and 45 minutes to beat.
Two Crude Dudes, Battletoads DD and Mystical Fighter all were considered for the #10 spot.7ui

@@supersexysega I feel like playing all Golden Axe games back to back now ;). I'll see how I like Captain America from not expecting too much. I can't play any game on hard difficulty lol (except Flashback). I love the graphics and style of Punisher. I played it once or twice quickly but need to really spend some time on it to see what it really is as my first impression was just good.
