I have the impulse 500 as a backup controller but I’m struggling to fine tune the scratch. Sometimes it’s excellent and sometimes it feels unresponsive. Could you recommend some settings to get started?

Thank you for your positive vibes! To answer your question: As you said, the first beat of the Beatgrid should start at the HotCue #1 of the Scratch demo song.
Anyway, if you re-analyse (sometimes by mistake) the Scrath Tools song, the grid can be misplaced.
So, you should put back the Beatgrid at the beginning of the first scratch sample.
The easiest way to do it :
1- Load "Scratch Tools" in your Deck #1
2- Hit the Hot Cue #1 on your Inpulse 300 or DJUCED interface to put the beginning of the first scratch sample on the Playhead
3- Hit "Shift" + "Q" button on the Inpulse 300 to set the First Beat of the beatgrid on the Playhead (so the HotCue #1 position) - This is a Secret trick.
4- Other trick : you can also Keep Pushed the "Q" button on the Inpulse, and use the Jogwheel to slide the Beatgrid Left or Right. (DJUCED 5.0.4 version minimum required).
If you want to set Hotcue and Loop OFF the grid, you can disable the "SNAP" function into DJUCED Settings => General => SNAP

Hi there, there is a solution, but it will remove the warranty of the controller. You can disassemble the product from underneath, remove the clips that hold the jogwheels' masts, remove the wheel from the top and remove some (but not all) of the grease. If you remove too much grease, there is a risk that the plastic rubs too much and that the product gets damaged (or that the jogwheel rubs on the case). Otherwise, using it a few times in the summer heat could help loosen it up a bit - but be careful.
