I’m a classically-trained musician who, until I saw this, knew next-to-nothing about this music or what DJs do. But I know high art when I see and hear it. This is just as impressive to me as a gifted pianist performing a Rachmaninoff concerto. Anybody who says otherwise doesn’t love music first.
A real "classic", instrument musician always admits skilled and talented djs So you sir said it. I'm also a dj (used to throw some gigs back in the days, now just hobby), played the piano and harmonica, so I can compare djing to playing an instrument. Sure, simply doing a beatmatch, fading two tracks togeather is not an art. When you realize that phrase matching is also important, thats where youre getting into it, then start mixing in key, after it you realize that playing with keys when djing is fun, start harmonic mixing (learning and maximally utilising the Camelot scale), then you can call yourself a dj, but still, you are a beginer. In other words, a "type one civilization", this guy is a "type four" 🥳
YEP, example of a true D.J. and WTF! rock-star skills on top of turntable talents! wow! All others on beat matching software and no-no Apple lab-tops are music programmers at best. Millennium home-slices can chew on that... :)
I agree... this routine in particular makes me actually "hurt myself" as my body twists, contorts and slams out the rhythms and I have lots of the lyrics, if U will, memorized too.... I go in another zone when I do this and consider it my form of meditation :)

Vekked I really enjoyed and it isn't the un musical scratch fest of some of the other competitors. But what was the sample at the beginning? sounds like a TED talk link? One last question custom pressed vinyl or what software?
I have been fucking around with turntables for 20 or so years...but if you added up all the time I have actually been playing, it probably doesn't add up to 1 year. This fucker lives and breathes turntables.
Dude, I keep coming back to this. It is seven years old and I find nothing that compares to it. I mean the precision, the skill it takes to do this is just freaking amazing to me. I am a wanna be DJ and I’ve been doing it since I was 14. I wish I would’ve had the drive to perfect it like you have. It’s just amazing what you do and the skill you have to make it happen! Bravo Brother!!
I was a freshman in highschool when I seen this livestream. It still gives me chills from time to time. Nothing compares. This man’s mastery is pure artwork.
The amount of musicianship that comes from this guy is incredible. He's able to combine classic disc scratching with modern day sampling to create multiple styles of music (there are examples of ambience, hard rock, hip hop, and modern day house in the video). And it's more than just standing up on the booth, pressing some buttons, moving some sliders, and so on...he's showing actual technique. You can see it in how he finds certain scratch points in the samples along with his hand movements, mainly his right hand. There's also an aspect of training the musical ear since he's aligning at least two tracks while attempting to modify one of them via scratching on the fly. What he's doing just seems really incredible to me.
i've watched this video over and over again and just realized that during the sega routine when he hits the keyboard it's not adjusting the pitch of the sample, it's changing the speed of the turntable
It's changing the pitch, yes the turntable speeds up but it doesn't go off beat like it would if a real record was speeded up, he is using control vinyl through Serato and set to only change the pitch.
This guy is one of the best... most supposed top DJs just mix songs... this guy makes his own music out of songs and the transitions are SOOOOO SMOOOOOOTH.
Wow, multiple references of games and yet i didn't see any coments about it. I think i heard SEGA's logo-thingy, Silent hill, sonic's coins, mortal kombat and lots of others more.
