Alone Again (Naturally) - Gilbert O'Sullivan

- In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to who
Ever what it's like when you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying: "My God, that's tough
She's stood him up"
No point in us remaining
We may as well go home
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally
To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to well wouldn't do
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much, as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about God and His mercy
Or if He really does exist
Why did He desert me in my hour of need
I truly am indeed Alone again, naturally
It seems to me that there are more hearts
broken in the world that can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?
Alone again, naturally
Now looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally - เพลง
My father used to play this song everyday. May God rest his soul in heaven 😿
Very lovely song

Mr wells, im a truck driver for the paxt 30 yrs and heavy metal fan, i have been since i was a budding punk rocker, have to say just love your channel. , who would have thought
Hi Andy, thanks for your comment. We grew up with music being something which was played, not programmed. Metal is certainly one of the pinnacles of what can be played - but I keep discovering others. Paul
awesome job Paul.
So sweet, so nice...
😭 this song best describes me...
Someday, things will get better... Please, hang in there.
Thank's to all that posted all of the amazing songs here. Piano is and always will be my all time favorite. Beautiful piano music. Can't seem to stop listening to it.

wow! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Olya. It is rewarding to know ten years on this video is still receiving a warm response.
This guy is amazing, I use a lot of his songs on my iphone. They're very relaxing.
Thanks Paul for covering these. I also grew up with these songs in the 70s. Working out the chord progressions, it makes you realise just how inventive they were. A far cry from today's offerings, at least it seems to me.
Thank you Jamie. I agree entirely. You can think you know these songs and that they are not complex because the parts fit together so well, but on deconstruction the treasure is exposed.
Beautiful song and beautiful playing !!

Very nice.
Thank you,I finally found a music only version.
f this has so much emotional this cover thank you so good
Encore bravo !!
Fantastic playing. Great stuff, haven't heard this for ages. Thumbs up

Well played. Fantastic. Great use of bass in left hand.
Thank you for your encouragement Steve - it's always good to hear from a fellow TH-cam piano cover maker.
Ur most welcome. Most piano covers r shit on here. They lack detail. Urs is amazing . Just a great blend of bass and chords. Plus the sound is so clear
Love it , I play with left hand accompaniment as I’m not that good with left hand, love your version
So werry nice played, i´m realy impressed ! Best regards from Roland A in Arvidsjaur Sweden.
Wooooo
@heartfeltbypau You are very kind. Thanks for all your comments. I tend to pick songs with distinctive harmonies and strong melodies. So if there is a secret it's probably to only select songs which will work well.
No problem. Please go ahead and use it. If you could send me a link to the finished thing that would be good, I would be interested to watch. It you could mention this channel that would be good. Thanks.
OMG, you are the best, sooooo good, i have listened to u playing this song over and over again, im trying to learn to play the piano, im in my 2nd month only ,hahaha

@hoochgooch Thank you, you are very kind.
2:32 Them left hand notes! 😍
Thanks Samuel. I'm planning to record another Gilbert O song today.
I realize this is an old video, but can you please make a tutorial? This is just so.... amazing? awesome? breathtaking? i don't even have the words...
Superb Maestro! Please may you make a tutorial?
Thanks
@amirayzo this is a very powerful song and there are lots of ways of playing it (and I have found quite a few different ways in which people sing it too). It can certainly be stripped down to just the tune and simple backing chords, or it can be built up into something epic.
Wow... The way you played some of the parts in the bass really struck a heartstring of mine. It made me feel some type of sadness i’ve never even experienced in real life. Maybe its just the nature of the song and what it’s about, but yeah...
Thank you for all of your comments sodusyd. This song certainly is intrinsically sad for reasons which musicologists would study. I was six when I first heard this song and this was then a modern song arriving at just the right time to make a deep and lasting impression on me. I tried to pull together a good rendition of this song without diluting it in any way. For me the sadness in the song is felt due to how much the world has changed in nearly 50 years.
This is a beautiful arrangement. Would love if you would make a tutorial for this one please Paul.
Really nice playing. The way you've managed to incorporate both the melody and the full chords with your right hand is quite impressive. Almost sounds like there is a third hand playing. Way to make good use of all five fingers! Nice left hand as well.
Glad you like it!
Huzzah!
i wonder if there is a breakdown or a tutorial of this great song,Paul. Looking forward to that.
Me encantó tu interpretación excelente canción muchas felicidades habría posibilidad de que me pudieras pasar la partitura de esta canción te lo agradecería infinitamente....saludos, albert
Absolutely beaustiful! Thnak you so much for sharing this great interpretation. Have you written a sheet music for this cover? If so, would you kindly share it with me?
would love a tutorial on alone again!!!!
@Unicornzilla I've just checked and the sheet music is available to buy on line
@ruralrob228 I think the bass sound on the keyboard is important. A real piano has little bass to it, so a lot of piano players end up bashing out octaves to get a good sound balance. Once you get that sorted then it happens automatically that you feel like playing 4ths and 5ths as little joining notes to bring out the rhythm.
@hoochgooch I tend to play the tune and accompaniment all with the right hand and so that's probably why it looks busy - but you don't have to do it that way. Best to have several songs on the go and give each one a nudge each day or so.
@haiderwm11 You are very kind. I haven't made a transcription of this one; sorry.
Paul I love the bass lines you play in your songs ,I am just playing octaves in the bass when I play ,do you have any tips for how you do your little frills etc in the bass ,thanks Rob
😎😎
@vlem1991 Thank you Nico :)
@alcobe87 Gracias por su comentario bueno. Desafortunadamente no tengo la cuenta. Aprendo música sin la cuenta.
Great piano song, looking for the sheet music, thanks !
I would love you to transcribe your music or do a synethesia video? I taught myself your version of She's Always A Woman a while ago and love playing it but sadly I don't have the time or patience anymore. This piece is beautiful.
I want to ask a question ........ What do you think of the yamaha tyros 4? ..... do you think a good keyboard?
Nice theme. Diana Krall play it too and your version is very professional !
paul, what's the secret to arranging all these beautiful stuff?
Nice Standard
could you please make a tutorial
