I was 12 when this song came out. On the radio constantly. Reduces me to tears to this day. Brilliant songwriter. God bless him. What a gift he and his songs have been. Thank you for this one, Nate.
@@PianowithNate Yes. And as you know, in those days, like television shows, music was more of a shared & connecting experience than it is today. We could ask any stranger, any friend, what they thought of Gilbert's Alone Again and they would know what you were talking about. Part of me misses that. Also, it was such a joy when we would get to see a favorite artist on television show like Midnight Special, In Concert, Don Kirshners Rock Concert. I can remember seeing Gilbert on certain variety television shows as well. Thanks again!
Thanks Nate, for a beginner who is using youtube vids due to economic reasons and can't afford to subscribe to the actual lessons, your generous free stuff is much appreciated and I find it very comprehensive. You actually walked us through the entire piece unlike other youtube tutorials that only bait you with a snippet. Thank you.
One of the best piano tutorials i ever found on yt, thank you Nate! The fact that you put it all together by ear is insane. Ive always liked this song but playing it now chord by chord makes me appreciate it more, what a beautiful melody
Best lesson ive ever had on youtube. This song was on the more difficult end for me because i usually play in a different key. Your pacing though helped me so much and after 30 mins or so i could play the intro and verse exactly how you taught. Ty so much
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Nate! I always hoped that you would make a tutorial with a Gilbert O'Sullivan song. And then you did! And you picked the best. You're the best, naturally 🎶.
Hello Nate, I’ve known and loved this song since I was a 9 year old kid in London. You’ve allowed me to bring this song into my repertoire. Thank you so much. Joe
Hey Nate thanks for explaining how to play the whole music on piano i really couldnt find any other good tutorial in english of this music so thanks for teaching us all this wonderful music!
ur great bro... i love this song long been waiting to know the right and exact chords in piano to play it on my guitar...now i know tnx again for the help...now i know
@@PianowithNate nate bro...i wl wait for the song alone at last by neil sedaka...it is one the song i wud love to learn and play on my guitar..please bro
I think you have the best piano tutorial on TH-cam . Thank you so much! I have never been able to find a good tutorial for Roberta Flack’s First Time Ever I Saw Your Face which has been covered by so many great singers. It would be fantastic if you could make one!!!
Best tutorial I've ever seen on this great piece!! Planning on building a guitar cover for this, and your explanations came really in handy!! Great work!! Kindest regards
This is very much we’re I became interested in playing music, used to do it on the ukulele in those days, this is another great tutorial, you must have a cultured following requesting great songs, but you always deliver thanks
I recently found your channel and it's great. There are two songs I'd like you to consider doing on TH-cam: "It's a Heartache" by Bonnie Tyler and "Hot 'n' Cold" by Kay Perry. Both use REALLY easy chords especially the latter one. I don't think there are any tutorials on TH-cam for either song so yours would stand out!
Beautiful tutorial Nate and your voice goes well with this number! One of my favourite songs. Btw, could you do a piano tutorial for for Frank Sinatra's 'I've Got You Under My Skin'? It's just that I can't find any good tutorials only.
Please make a tutorial on all of me because you just explain things so nicely and it’s a beautiful song and I would really like for you to do a tutorial on it and I was also eagerly waiting for it. I just want to learn it plss do consider Nate
Merci Nate ❤ Your explanations are soooo easy to put in practice! What about I can't tell you why from Timothy B. Smidt? ❤ I'm happy to give you some French lessons to compensate 😊
Hi! Unfortunately I don't have sheet music for it, as I put it together by ear. That said, my version is very accurate to what is played on the original recording, so if you google search for accompaniment sheet music for this song, I bet you'll find something pretty similar!
Nate ive always wanted to play another song by gilbert called " i wonder would you mind", ive never found any sheets so i cant play it, can you please one day make a tutorial out of it?
Thanks! I'd say it's in F# major, in the sense that it feels at rest when it returns to that place...the song doesnt stick entirely to notes from the F# majore scale though
Hi Nick, can you put “For the First time” by Kelly Loggins on your list. Thanks!! Enjoy your tutorial video, short but include all important pointers; motivate me to keep practicing.
A question (new at music theory). The 'a#7sus4' in the intro still contains a minor third. So it isn't a sus chord right? Shouldn't it be like a#m7add4 ??
Good to hear from you. I don't have traditional sheet music for it, as I put it together by ear. It is accurate, so if you do a google search for accompaniment sheet music for this song, maybe you'll find something pretty similar! Good luck
True! You could certainly play it a half step lower for more white notes. I try to teach songs in their original keys though, as many people like to play along with the original recording

Just a quick note - Gilbert O'Sullivan was taught how to piano by his best friend, Rick Davies who later went on to form the group Supertramp.
Woah I didn't know that, very cool!
Bravo!!!!!😢😢😢
@@PianowithNateI'm starting to catch on. 'cause of U "Naturally".
I found a few videos of him and Rick together in 69 and 70. That's wild. Thanks for mentioning this.

Okay, thanks anyway your version is pretty cool! Have a nice day
Gilbert O' Sullivan would like $250k for this video cover
…interesting, Gilbert could actually have heard that in his head!…
Blimey... Play it in F!
Oh wow ! I just found the 1/2 speed dial 😂 you sound drunk 🍻😂
ha!
Why every chord #😢 , just transpose one tone lower you begin easy play with F MAJ etc?????
True! You could certainly play it a half step lower for more white notes. I try to teach songs in their original keys though, as many people like to play along with the original recording
You need to follow through a little bit more stop all the stops
