Bought this lens after your review 5 years ago, had it for the 5D3, then 5D4 and then Canon R, and soon the R6, keep changing cameras but the lens stays my most used one of my collection, thank you Chris 🙏🏻
and how do you fix distortion at 24mm in lightroom there is no profile for this lens i checked yesterday ? i have 5d mark 3 and 5d mark 2 i read online that there is no in camera corrections for this lens ?
I own this lens and so far I have absolutely no problem with it at all. Sharp, steller images coupled with my Nikon D810 and on my D5500 too. Tony Northrup also say's this lens is actually sharper than the Nikkor version. Great lens!
I bought this lens after a lot of research, your review was the determining factor. I am delighted with it and use it on both and apsc (7Dii) and my 5Dii. Thank you for another unbiased comprehensive review.
I bought this lense for my Canon 6D yesterday, so far, I'm really pleased with it's performance. 'Took late night photo sessoin in Graz, Austria tonight, and I'm impressed! It's at least three times better in low light than my 24-105f4 L (even at f4, tamron is laike one stop better, lower ISO, ...); I'm selling my working horse lense :)It's good, but not as good as this Tamron.
Hi Chris, I've purchased the lens few months ago and have been very happy with the lens. My primary usage is on my full frame 5D MKIII and 6D for event photography, sometimes for commercial product and portrait when I want to include the surroundings with the subject. With my Canon 70-200 2.8, it's been a great combo for events and saved some money as well! Having used the Canon 24-70 II as well (great lens), I had to save some $$$. Little difference for the price. Thanks for helping me to make my decision. Your comprehensive review helped! Cheers!
A year late but....I am about to get this lens for my mkiii. I heard some of them have problems with the mkiii autofocus. Do you still like it a year later?
I have their 70-200 (not the G2) and it is incredible. This is going to be my next lens. I am mostly into portraiture, so the two lenses should be all i will ever need. So far I love working with the 70-200, however I feel in studio work the 24-70 would be more ideal. Nevertheless I have grown to love Tamron products.
I think for the price of them used its a no-brainer! I’ve had this lens since 2016 and I still use it for a lot of my work. If you’re just getting into full frame - pair it with a (D600, D610, D 700, D750, D800s etc.) and you’ll have great set up especially if you’re just coming from a crop sensor with a kit lens
Great review Chris! I'm looking to get a 6D soon to jump into the world of full frame, and seeing reviews like this for possible future lenses is great to see! Keep up the good work! Love your reviews! :)
Wait for the new one...Mark ii. It is going to be an awesome camera. I have the 6D and I love the ease and image quality. Can't wait for the newer version with better functionality.
Anthony Morales no thanks mate. The prices of the cameras are going up & up with the cost of the £ against the ¥. Standard 6D is a fantastic camera in its own right, the 6D mk2 is going to be way overpriced, already been told it's going to be priced a lot more heavily than the original 6D. Shame really but that's the way things are at the moment. More in need of a laptop at the moment since mines decided to give up haha
Just picked this lens up for $80. It had been dropped by the previous owner, so the focus and zoom didn't. 2 hours of repairs later, and it works great now. Definitely not a good internal build quality as Canon L glass, but that reflects the price of this lens.
It's 2021 and we live in a world of mirrorless bodies but I live in the past and use the Nikon D600, D700 and D800. The price of the lens is quite reasonable and I'm looking for a good used sample. Tamron has updated this lens to the G2 and from what I've read they are about the same optically but the VC is much better with the G2 but being a low budget shooter when it comes to premium gear I'm looking for the original G1 model and YES Christopher Frost is a big influence in my purchasing decisions!
Ben Ankobiah I'm pretty satisfied with the overall results. Very sharp lens, gives good colors with minimum cromatic aberration. The only flaw would be the focusing speed maybe, takes a little bit more than necessary. But again I'm very happy with it.
Ben Ankobiah I'd definitely go for the Tamron. It has the same capabilities than the Canon and with image stabilization (btw It works just great) I think just the Canon 24-70 Mk II is superior to the Tamron
Thank you Christopher, my third lens bought after following your recommendations. Sigma 18-35 for my 7DII and the 70-200 f4 Is and this Tamron for the 5DII. Think I need to stop watching your channel for a while, want to save up for the 5D IV. Thanks again, I haven't spent a single second regretting following any of your recommendations. Sorry, also got the Samyang 14mm as well, which I've just photographed about every inch of Montgomeryshire with. So that's 4 following your recommendations and I only own 10, I certainly trust your views over anyone else on TH-cam.
I bought this lens last year and WoW !!! gives me very sharp photos. just one thing... the weight ! after an hour of hand held... Now if I could only buy the Tamron 70-200mm, I won't need another lens for a long time.
For the price point is ok ,however the Nikon equivalent will beat Tamron in every aspect, faster autofocus and more accurate and most importantly better image quality.
Thank you for this video!! Very well timed. I very much respect your opinion and thoughts on lenses. I own both the Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM and the Tamron 70-300 VC USD in part because of your comprehensive reviews. Keep up the awesome work!!
sickhcivc Once I worked all day in sleet with that lens attached. The gear was literally soaking wet for hours. Neither my 5d3 nor the Tamron lens stopped working. Got to appreciate that.
I have this lens for my Nikon and Sony. Recently got Canon full frame bodies for dirt cheap (5d classic $135 5D2 $235) now looking to score this lens for Canon for cheap. Yeah, aside from photography hobby, I also collect equipments.
Hello Chris.. After searching for long finally got this lens yesterday. Saved some money by choosing the 1st model. If I can save some money in next year, I'll go for the Tamron 70-210f4. "Merry Christmas" to you and your family (in advance)😊😊
I am a new photographer and bought a Canon Rebel t3i/600D with two cheap lenses a while back (they're good for beginners though), but I want to get another lens (thinking about the canon 40mm f/2.8) because I'm going to the beach in California soon. Is this a good lens choice (I can't afford much at all) for the beach? Also, would you consider doing a "beginners" guide to aperture, iOS and other important stuff for a lens and/or camera? And also how to control them? Your videos really help me a lot with getting started :)
wonderfully informative video. Is there a zoom lens that stops down to f2.8 across the whole range you would recommend for aps-c users? or would this be the Best Buy?
Hey Chris! Thank you for doing this review! I have been holding out on buying this lens for quite some time now awaiting your seal of approval! Im still not sure tho now that sigma has a rumored 24-70 2.8 OS coming soon but this helped a lot. Thanks!
love your reviews Chris! I've had this lens for little under a year now and It's been great but I've noticed the lens elements moving quite a bit when I look through the viewfinder with the VC on. I went to the local store where I bought this from and they said it's just the tamron VC motor doing it's thing. would you have any knowledge on this issue on tamron lenses by any chance? Cheers ✌
I own this lens for a long time. Nice lens. What I do not understand that (not only this lens) that a fullframe lens has issues on a APS-C in the corners. In fact that are not the corners from the lens, well I do not own APS-c's.
Excellent reviews. Your channel is truly the best in the market. What do you recommend for an all around workhose lens for APS C cameras with image stabilization and AF? something with a reasonably wide angle to 70mm for example? Keep up the good work.
Great work, Chris. I've heard some build issues with this lens throughout the industry. But, the good news is that a good copy is a great copy. Not a fan of Tamron just yet, but would entertain the idea of trying one before forming my own opinion. That bokeh is...well, busy.
Noticing from last 2-3 years, how these 3rd party lenses companies r making such luxurious lenses' reach easy to the customers with budget issues. & even being low in price they provide excellent quality. & even they provide very good options like VC, very convenient focal lengths with max apertures.
I really like your channel and in depth lens reviews, i hope you can help me out. I can’t deside which lens to choose for my Canon APS-C body. I can’t choose between this Tamron 24-70mm and the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM. Disregarding the focal length and price difference, which lens would give me (in general) the best quality pictures?
I have heard the Tamron specs out more like 63mm not 70mm when zoomed in. Did you notice this compared to say the Canon version. I would hate to give up that extra reach if it's true...I am considering the Tamron to buy so any info would be very helpful. Thanks and nice detailed review.... Philip
Hi Christopher, first of all I'd like to thank you for your great lens reviews. I enjoy watching them all even though I don't plan on buying a new lens anytime soon. Just a quick question: I know you are owning a Canon 70D, so why do you still use the 60D sometimes (not that a 60D is a bad camera at all, just asking because you got the more modern model)? Cheers from Germany - hubie
I wish I had watched this review earlier when I was out and I would have probably bought this lens there and then! I had been looking at the Sigma 24-105 art lens, but now this is really tempting me. What would you say would be the better lens to go for Christopher?
+Christopher Frost Photography Just home from buying it and taking some shots around Glasgow on the walk home. Thanks for your advice, and keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thank you for your excellent reviews, which have helped me more than once make a well educated decision regarding lenses. Having all the factors presented to one in an easy to understand manner is very important in this regard. Thank you once again and please keep up your excellent work.
Hi Chris, I like your review. Do you think you would be able to do a review on "Tokina at-x 24-70mm f2.8 pro fx" or do a comparison with Tamron and Canon equivalent lenses?
Did you have any problems with focusing? what is the performance with external flash? I had some old sigma 24-70 f2.8 and it didnt focus well, so I have doubts about these lenses…
GREAT QUESTIONS! I've had it for about 6 years now with no problems, but just lately the focusing has been kind of inconsistent, especially at close ranges. But I have learned to live with it....2nd question: I haven't really used it with external flash, but it works fine with my Nikon D750 popup flash!
Bought this for my APS-C camera a few years back thinking I would upgrade to full frame. Should have just got a Canon EF-S 15-85mm. I really do love the f/2.8 but this lens is heavy and 1.6x crop is not great on this range
Sharpen than nikon and canon´s model. However, i read several people saying this lens (not all, but a bunch of them) has problem with the image estabilization which turns the image soft. Another thing i read: in canon 70d series while using this lens it seems draining the battery faster. I wanted to buy this lens for my 70D, but im afarid!
hello! i just want to clarify, does this lens work like Canon's L lenses in which the aperture doesn't adjust even when zooming? I do notice it isn't in some parts of the video but I just want a straightforward answer. Thank you!
does it has accurate smooth autofocus during video comparing to the stm and the canon 17-55? I have to 18-135 stm but I'm looking for a faster IS lens with more zoom than 55 but smooth autofocus during video too. what are your thoughts Christopher?
+Cloody Tube I didn't really have a chance to test the AF in video mode. It should be ok - but STM will always be smoother and more efficient (and Canon are making new 'Nano USM' autofocus motors which will be even faster and more efficient than USM and STM
Hello again, if I already own the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 USM L (version 1) do you think this would be an upgrade? I do a lot of hand held/low light work. The "VC" + 2.8 looks fantastic on paper, but I'm also accustomed to the rugged nature of Canon L lenses. Do you think Tamron holds a candle to canon in the build quality department? Let me know what you would do.
Inkwellish vs the M1 this lens is imo sharper. There was a big step up from M1 to M2 by Canon on sharpness and this Tamron is slightly less sharp (but not a big difference) and half the price of the M2 version
I shot with sony, with the 28-75 what is a tamron 28-75 with diferent dress, so, you can say that this one is un improvment over the mentioned ones?. Thinking on replace the one I have, and selling buying is kinda not so expensive at the end...
Tamron makes very good gear, Nikon is well on the way to pricing themselves out of the lens market. ie the new 70-200 f 2.8e is £2,649, in the UK.Madness.
Hey Chris, I hope all is well. Thanks for sharing.. I have a question re: the price for this lens. On amazon it has two different prices 1: usa warranty: $1270...2: NO warranty : $795... I guess my question is, would you purchase the one one without the warranty and take a chance...Any thoughts???
hey, if I were you I would definitely go for the one without warranty... if u just take good care of your lens you'll be fine... and if in any case something happens to it or gets damaged.. u can use the 470 dollars difference to repair it.. and if nothing happens to ur lens, then you would have saved yourself 470$, the price of another new lens. hope I helped.

Hi Christopher, Great lens reviews. I bought this Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC to go with my GH4 and Metabones Canon EF adapter. I don't seem to be able to get infinity focus when lens is at 24mm. the marker in the viewfinder stops well short of the little "mountain" logo and leaves everything in the distance out of focus. Can you advise why this might be happening. When you zoom in to about 40-50mm this problem goes away and Infinity Focus is achievable .
HI there, I know this review was done a long time ago. Have you reviewed the Newer Tamron 24-70 G Lens. I am thinking of upgrading from this one and wondered if it was actually worth it. Many thanks..
Yet another awsome Chris Frost review. I did check this lens dxomark.com - on FF cameras it does perform excellent, but less than avarage on APS-C sensors. What is your experience regarding dxomark´s reviews/meassurements compared to your own first hand experience? Reason for asking is that you have made so many tests on both FF and APS-C and compared these.
Amazing review as alwaysChris!! I have this lens but I am pretty disappointed. Mine is sharp only around 35mm but lower and higher than that lose a lot ofsharpness.
hi Chris , nice review. what's the best way to lens focus microadjustment? I own this lens & found out its not as sharp on 70 mm f2.8 as f3.2. any advice?
Hi Christopher, I was wondering (although my question does seem a little off topic here xD) how I properly take crop factors into account. I use a Canon body so I know the crop factor is 1,6. However, I still don't understand weather or not I have to take the crop factor into account when I buy a lens that is made SPECIFICALLY for Crop cameras. I hope I explained myself somewhat understandably .. and I would be happy for a bit of help here :D
Bought this lens after your review 5 years ago, had it for the 5D3, then 5D4 and then Canon R, and soon the R6, keep changing cameras but the lens stays my most used one of my collection, thank you Chris 🙏🏻
same here.. no reason to upgrade.. even with the RF its a huge chunk of money for a few % improvement
Just got a good used for $132.00, yh right $132! man it is super sharp and good AF...was planning for RF 24-70 looks like I saved $2000
and how do you fix distortion at 24mm in lightroom there is no profile for this lens i checked yesterday ? i have 5d mark 3 and 5d mark 2 i read online that there is no in camera corrections for this lens ?
@@techgeek2994 There is a profile for this lens in Lightroom and has been for at least 7 years lol

Ashley Nadin Is it that cheap built in quality?
I think his cat knocked it off a table and it split the casing
lol xD
Ashley Nadin Yeah..cos it got dropped! Come on dude, you can buy a Ferrari, but if you crash it it's still gonna crumble right? psshh
My favorite review channel on youtube. Relaxing voice and background music, lots of information and comparing lenses fairly.

+Fatrickuk Star Maybe one day
I LOVE this lens for all around shoorting! It stays on my Nikon D750 most of the time, along with a nifty fifty! :)
@@hurleygreen927 thanks for answer!
Bought this for my APS-C camera a few years back thinking I would upgrade to full frame. Should have just got a Canon EF-S 15-85mm. I really do love the f/2.8 but this lens is heavy and 1.6x crop is not great on this range
Does anyone else notice vignetting at 70mm on the bunny shot at 0:55
Hi.. great review.. i do have a question though.. did you ever get the "onion ring" effect on the lens?
A tiny bit. Not in a serious way
please do a review of the tokina 24 to 70......can't wait for your thorough review
I've Decided. I'll be definitely getting this lens
Thanks Chris, great review as always!
Can I buy that 1 off you bro? (I'm English too btw)
Good review, You recommend this for FF , so what would you recommend for my 760D , thanks
+Wayne Bennett Go for a fast standard zoom lens. Check out my comparison video
Hi Chris, like your videos a lot thanks, what is your recommendation for my 70d, I´m looking for inexpensive but still good 24-70!! thanks
Miramez Jr I haven't heard of that problem for the 70D. Your battery should be fine, as far as I know :-)
+Miramez Jr what do you mean with your first sentence about sharpen that Nikon and Canon?
Chris, what can u say about comparing this with Canon 24-70 f2.8 (1st version)?
Olegasphoto I can't remember exactly which is sharper. Take a look at my review of that lens, and you'll be able to see :-)
hello! i just want to clarify, does this lens work like Canon's L lenses in which the aperture doesn't adjust even when zooming? I do notice it isn't in some parts of the video but I just want a straightforward answer. Thank you!
Production is a class
which is better, this one or canon 24-70 f4 is usm ?
Will you do Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 vc test?
I still haven’t decided if I should go for this or the Canon 24-105mm f/4L...
How does this lens compare to a F4L 24-70 in image quality? Debating between the two as they seem similar used
Always great videos. What do you use for recording your audio?
+rrrrrrtt1 Just a little lapel mic, although I've recently invested in an Audiotechnica AT2020 which is much better
Thanks for the response! Love the videos.
does it has accurate smooth autofocus during video comparing to the stm and the canon 17-55? I have to 18-135 stm but I'm looking for a faster IS lens with more zoom than 55 but smooth autofocus during video too. what are your thoughts Christopher?
+Cloody Tube I didn't really have a chance to test the AF in video mode. It should be ok - but STM will always be smoother and more efficient (and Canon are making new 'Nano USM' autofocus motors which will be even faster and more efficient than USM and STM
Can you test out the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 ?
Whats your view on using this and other full frame lenses on an APS-C + a 0.71 speed booster such as the Viltrox?
Bro Chris! Nice reviewing anyway. :) Have you ever tried reviewing any types of GoPro cam?
Hi Christopher, which one is better .. this one or the 24-70 canon 2.8 ? you have tried them both :)
+Zaydi amine The 'mark ii' Canon version is a noticeably sharper lens but I would actually go for the Tamron just for the image stabilization
+Christopher Frost Photography thank youuuuu :)
thanks!
I shot with sony, with the 28-75 what is a tamron 28-75 with diferent dress, so, you can say that this one is un improvment over the mentioned ones?. Thinking on replace the one I have, and selling buying is kinda not so expensive at the end...
I.LOVE.THIS.LENS.
Great review as always.
Tamron makes very good gear, Nikon is well on the way to pricing themselves
out of the lens market. ie the new 70-200 f 2.8e is £2,649, in the UK.Madness.
Should'n corners always be softer with a wide aperture? You would need a spherical surface to photograph and thereby acheive equal distance all over.
The issue you're referring to is called 'field curvature'. Properly designed lenses should be able to cope with that.

I'm sorry, I have no idea about M4/3 cameras and adaptors.
HI there, I know this review was done a long time ago. Have you reviewed the Newer Tamron 24-70 G Lens. I am thinking of upgrading from this one and wondered if it was actually worth it. Many thanks..
One day I will review it :-)
Yet another awsome Chris Frost review.
I completely ignore dxomark
Great review chris
Amazing review as alwaysChris!! I have this lens but I am pretty disappointed. Mine is sharp only around 35mm but lower and higher than that lose a lot ofsharpness.
Good review Chris..
just ordered mine, fingers crossed
Would you still recommend it in 2021? I'm looking for a zoom lens in that mm range with image stabilization and f2.8
I'm wondering the same
I’m sure you could make it work. I’m thinking about getting this one since I’m kinda broke and need a 24-70 for now.
Hi chris! Which is sharper? Canon 24-70 v1 or this tamron?
Can't remember - take a look at my reviews of both lenses and you'll be able to see :-)
It is absolutely amazing when you consider the price of Canon's mkii....
I know this is an old comment... But no f*ing IS either!!! Such a pity on Canon's part to make you go to f/4 to get IS
hi Chris , nice review. what's the best way to lens focus microadjustment? I own this lens & found out its not as sharp on 70 mm f2.8 as f3.2. any advice?
+Mohammad Khan See if your camera actually has AF microadjust, and then give it a try
Ya I got canon 70d. It can do af adjustment.
This is my favorite lens in the world!
Great (relevant) review! Thank you! I'd like a review of Tokina 24-70 from you
for canon?
Hi Christopher,
I was wondering (although my question does seem a little off topic here xD) how I properly take crop factors into account.
+Anny Huang Yes, you always have to take the crop factor into account, whether or not it's a lens specifically designed for APS-C
+Christopher Frost Photography Okay, thanks so much! :)
