Cracking job Martin, lovely finish. Perfect timing too cos I've got the front bumper from my Rover 75 2.5 V6 to do, and picked some nice guidelines up from you, so thank you 👍 Little tip for you that I picked up from a mate of mine who's been a bodywork lad for 40+ years. He told me to use 2 rags when I'm panel wiping before painting, on with 1 and off quickly with a clean one. Otherwise he said you're just moving around the stuff you're trying to get off.
👍 It’s always good skill to learn how to respray parts of your car Iv re-sprayed all of my 1989 classic mini project And did some accident repair damage on the front bumper on my dads Mitsubishi shotgun
Lovely job done martin paint very good match when doing this sort of work you can only get this type of finish with a compressor rattle cans would be not in the same class so if doing this sort of repaire purchase the correct tools first this is how you got this finish well done
I'm really impressed, on video the colour looks chameleon changes with camera angle wondered how you would patch in without painting the whole bumper. Incredible great job nice work 👍
Without doubt the most entertaining and informative set of channels on TH-cam. Love all your vids Martin. Never fail to learn something or have a chuckle from your vids. However, you may remind the grasshopper that it’s lefty loosey, righty tighty ! He’s young but he’ll learn 🤣🤣🤣
Why has this got 7 thumbs down are these people not watching the same video am watch ??? Martin I love your channels and garrys channel and your family mate keep up the good work some people don't know there born unfortunately mate 👏👏👏👍👍👍👍🏴🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧
Modern paint matching systems are so much better these days. There is a slight variation in the bumper to wing here but bthat is pretty much unavoidable. even brand new cars often have mismatched plastic bumpers and panel work. Apparently, its the way the metallic flake in the paint lay on the plastic compared to metal. Where you are to repair the back edge of the drivers wing You might consider blending it into the door rather than do a hard edge... despite the paint being a good colour match, its very difficult to get a totally invisible hard edge match. Good job so far !!
love the video on painting car parts can you make up a video on how to mix clear coat and paint up right for painting right as I went to do it many thanks
Something to remember is that paint changes with age 10 year old factory paint will never match the original paint code. Cracking job btw and it's certainly good enough for a used car.
Bumper looks smashing. Love to try Spraying with a gun but the price of everything you need for it. Base coat, Thinners etc cost alot more then cans. My local autopaint charge for a 250ml base is £10 then basecoat thinner is £5. I agree it doesnt sound much but considering 500ml can is £8 and that will usually last a couple of jobs. its something i cant justify. My results are usually adaquate. If i ever try HVLP it would be mainly for clear coat usage as 1ltr clear is £2 more then a 500ml can.
Fantastic video as always but I have a question is there a reason why you didn’t use an adhesion promoter as I thought you’d chance the paint failing in the future or have I got it totally wrong???
Looks great. What paint gun did you say you were using? I've only used rattle cans, but since I've got a small compressor I'm thinking a gun might be a worthwhile investment
Looking good Martin, me and my 11 year old lad love watching your videos. In fact he turns 12 on Wednesday (12th May), he would be proper chuffed if he got a shout out if you have the time during one of your next videos? 🙂🤞 his name is Karlis. Keep up the great vids Martin
@@retrorestore lastly can I ask mart. If you let it fully cure and the scuffed it up , would you need to spray base coat again? Or can you just put clear on top of the scuffs?
i am not hater but if you get scratches on your lip spoiler just remove it and bring back stock lip ( turbo lip is good from stock lip spoilers ) p.s. i drive also astra g and i like it ! 🙂
I genuinely have no idea how you don't get more views on your videos Martin. the quality and knowledge you put in to them deserves more recognition.
I appreciate that!
I agree
Me too. I’ve got the same Astra as this, and these videos especially have been flippin brilliant and a great help. Thanks Martin!

Very good job 👍🏻 the Astra mk4 was the last good car Vauxhall made and the 1.8 petrol engine aka Z18XE is a very good engine
Something to remember is that paint changes with age 10 year old factory paint will never match the original paint code. Cracking job btw and it's certainly good enough for a used car.
Cracking job that
Great work Martin, Sharon's got a nice little car for the summer there. Was that the FZ600 on the operating table for a new camchain? 👍
We were investigating it, Check out Project Man's vids when he uploads it.

Yes, the spray gun for clearcoat makes all the difference.
Very nice work again . He did pull a face lol.
😁
Nicely done
Thanks!

It'll be fine.

Lovely jubbly.
Looks mint.
Well done Martin great video for the DIY guys to learn from. Who do you use to mix up your base coat paint?
I don't mix it, I buy it pre mixed.
@@retrorestore sorry I misspoke, I mean what company do you use to mix your paint.👍🏼
Fishers motor Factors in Lincoln
Looks great. What paint gun did you say you were using? I've only used rattle cans, but since I've got a small compressor I'm thinking a gun might be a worthwhile investment

Very lucky that your mondeo was parked up Martin or Project Man would have fallen over.🤣😂
Brilliant Martin. How is Jimmy doing??
Jimmy,s doing fine John, plenty of work.
Great vid Martin, did you scuff the bumper just before the clear coat stage or did you spray the clear straight on top of the base coat?
You would only need to scuff the base coat if you let it dry fully. You don't need to scuff it if you clear coat it within an hour.
@@retrorestore lastly can I ask mart. If you let it fully cure and the scuffed it up , would you need to spray base coat again? Or can you just put clear on top of the scuffs?
Just clearcoat over the scuffs. I use a grey scotch pad
i am not hater but if you get scratches on your lip spoiler just remove it and bring back stock lip ( turbo lip is good from stock lip spoilers )
