    I found the "Miracle grow super steel garden stake" fits inside perfectly. They are 6 feet long, tubular steel with plastic covering. I use a 2 foot section, push 1 foot in the ground, and slide the pole on the other foot. I left it up in 40+ mph winds for a day, and it stayed up great.

    I've also been waiting on a Carbon 6 for months, so this video is hugely appreciated. Will definitely check out the Goture.

    Great idea. I use a tiki torch stake for backpacking. Very light aluminum with a thumb screw to tighten down any diameter pole, whether a fishing rod or Carbon 6 mast.

      I kind of like that idea. I may get a pack of those to test them out. They look a lot less like a prison shank (in case I get pulled over or something). Thanks for the input!

    Good short video. Always good to have another option with more available components, especially in the current supply chain situation. The off white pipe looks like CPVC which is used for hot water whereas PVC is only rated for cold water. Electrical tape is good, or 3d print some adapters. I made some similar adapters for the larger telescoping poles with a trailer hitch and some all-thread layered with PVC and tape for quick stationary vehicular deployment (before I had a 3d printer). Lots of useful ideas. :) 73 de w6akb.

      You are correct Alan! CPVC! I have this cool 3d printed "connector" or "Separator" designed. Hopefully if I get a few moments, I can go test it out, but it's super simple and prints in about 35 minutes. I'll be happy to share it when I confirm it's working. This is my favorite part of the hobby. Finding things that will work, and designing others that will make those things work better.

      I really appreciate that. I do my best to make things easy for everyone to understand. Let me know if you come up with any other cool ideas or find a pole you enjoy. So far, I have brought this out a few times and it's done a real good job. One thing I did: I used the smaller off yellow tubing and placed some heat shrink around it, then taped it. I did this after I let the epoxy fill up inside the tube. It looks a lot cleaner and seems to grip the inside of the pole a little better. Thanks again!

    You need to measure your poke when it's assembled. They get their measurements by adding the total length of each piece and giving you the sum. When I got my rod, it measured 18'6. They don't factor in the length lost length of each piece when a little of each piece is inside the last one.
    By the time I removed the top two pieces it was under 14'.

    Those poles work great for building a Moxon like Chuck has. ;) Did you try using end caps on the 1/2 pipe? I have many Carbon Fiber masts and if you run a wire buy it or coax down it, no issue. I have used ladder line next to it at 3" out from the pole with no issue.

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I did not try the end cap, but that is worth a shot! Thanks Don! As for the moxon, I love what he did. We had the Moxon up and operational within 10 minutes, I would say. Nice poles to have around.

    Any reason you couldn't attach the pole to a tripod with something like a "CAMVATE Super Clamp Articulated Mini Ball Head with 1/4"-20 Thread Hole" and stake/weigh the tripod down to get things just a little higher since your not using the end lengths?

    It looks like that rod might fit in a spiral fishing rod holder, Walmart sells the Ozark Trail rod holders for less than 3 bucks. What's the diameter of that rod at the base? I measured the inside diameter of the rodholder with calipers and they are about 31mm.
