I recall Quicksilver. The 80's was when I first started bike couriering in Vancouver. After coming back, off and on, over the years, I found myself still couriering up until the middle of the last decade, in Calgary.
Do what your heart tells you. I actually sold my car and switched to cycling for my primary form of transportation. I got fed up with the outrageous tickets, the traffic courts/judges (which only provide a summary judgement to extract money or make you work for the state), the cops pulling you over and doing unnecessary searches (just for a little crack in my windshield). Mind you I had a pretty clean driving record. Cycling provides me with a much greater feeling of liberty than driving a car.
i was thinking the same thing...then the old man says at the end "Alight you guys, get back to work" like deliveries can wait til all the grab-ass is over!
point taken on moustaches. Denim though was in widespread use cowboy time, at least in back to the future, and that proves everything. Timemachines, can't argue with 'em.
21 in a month, and my lady and I ride around together. Most of my friends ride, almost no one I know drives. Keep them wheels spinning until you find people who can keep up with you.
haha, my dad saw kids ridding fixies when he was driving me to school, hes like hahah thats how you guys ride fixies? go watch quicksilver then get back to me. haha and here i am
what is this film? my mind is blown i know of people who ride as couriers with similar bikes/gear ratios, although these are obviously purpose built for tricks. kudos to the people who actually performed the stunts, bacon is impressed!
@gooochino The ones that have the petals continuously moving as they are doing tricks are fixed. The other ones just look like single speeds as they are able to coast.
@@DJASHLOFT supercool man ... keep it going. When my legs start going weak that I cannot climb hills, it will be ebike time for me. But until I'm still able, no ebikes 😁🤘
yep. the free-wheel mechanism was only invented in the 70's where they quickly exploded in popularity, before then fixies were popular. Then mountain-bikes exploded when car-culture took over the streets in the 80's/90's. Fixed gear bikes represent a return to a time when bicycles were at home on the road, the re-popularization of them is arguably because people want to be able to commute/ride a bike on the street. Sociology student as well as an ardent lover of bike culture.
@lvleph Circus bikes are "Fixies", "Fixed Gear", "Track Bikes", whatever you wish to call them. They are just granny geared. All I'm saying is that in the 80's people were riding fixed-geared bikes and pointing out that this new fad of people riding seriously over-colored bikes with fixed gears isn't some original new concept. Maybe the blinding colors are, but fixed geared bikes are far from new.
It's a type of performance biking, they ride very specialist fixed gears, and it's useful for them to have the handlebars on upside down. No one who uses their bike for covering distance would do that.
I think a car is kind of a necesity nowadays. Maybe you could buy your car, have it there for dating or emergency cases and such, but you are going to still be using your bike for everything else man. I don't understand why people have to make a choice between the two of them.
sometimes I drive (my wife owns a car!), but I think organizing my life to be able to commute on a bike as much as possible is a far better approach. 'Carless' since 2005 and not willing to get back.
I am 20 years old and I always love riding bikes but recently I figure out that most of my friends have stop riding their bikes and are more focus on cars now. They say I need to grow up and get a car now bcuz girl dont want a boy in a bike. I kinda believe them but idk.. I still enjoy biking am even thinking of buying another bike but everyone tell me to save up for a car now. Am I just getting to old for this? Since I am the only one with a bike now. Or should I continue riding but now solo

Classic. THis is what got me into being a courier years ago. (retired) 10yrs vet. DC
That bike trick was cool but that handlebar moustache just propels it to godlike levels.
Talent from the 80's. Cheese for music. Quicksilver!!

the first guy is Martin Aparijo, then Woody Itson. the guy riding the direct-drive and doing the boomerangs, etc is Pat Romano.
Saxaphones, random moustaches and endless amounts of denim.
The 80's had it all.
It's called Quicksilver and it was released in 1986 according to imdb.
If I recall correctly, the stunt riders were actual, local bike messengers.
Quicksilver! Yeah baby. This was flatland on a road bike. The shit they were doing back then was epic. That brought back some memories.
Those were the good old days!

Martin Aparijo is the first rider. Team GT owned the 80's freestyle scene
The name of the movie is in the description it's called Quicksilver
Yeah, looks like the first couple bikes were single speed but the rest were fixies. You can tell because the pedals rotate with the wheels.

Chuck Norris can do that with out a bike.
there are 1-2 single speed bikes, mostly they are granny-gear fixies though.

RESPECT THE CLASSICS MAAAN
Interesting how so many bike messengers didn't have any work to do in a city like New York or whatever city this movie was set in.

This movie totally trumps premium rush.
This is from the 80's movie "Quick Silver"

g173df It's from a movie called quicksilver with Kevin Bacon no cgi back then, Martin Aparejo is a flatland rider.
The movie is called "Quicksilver"
Where can I find a Bar around here?
when bike messengers really knew how to send a message!
I love the name of the bar....
Some of these bike messengers become actors...

Classic scene!!! Eighties!!!
The bike changes between being a fixed gear and single speed all the time
Holy $hit. i didn't know this was possible. O.o
It's a type of performance biking, they ride very specialist fixed gears, and it's useful for them to have the handlebars on upside down. No one who uses their bike for covering distance would do that.
i must have this song... what is it :D?!

Thank God the 80's are long gone.
ROBIN!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE ?!!
absolutely sick!
sometimes I drive (my wife owns a car!), but I think organizing my life to be able to commute on a bike as much as possible is a far better approach. 'Carless' since 2005 and not willing to get back.
the first 2 are the only non-fixed/ single speed bikes. the rest are

Fantastic. Fuck lets dance and all these dancing films at the cinema, this is a proper dance off :D
What Front Brake?
I've never seen anyone on a fixie have their handbars pointing up...
Was that Jean Luc Picard?
It´s Jami Gertz, right?
Cruising with that 20/20 Gear ratio..
@EpicVideos303 That last dude, who undoubtedly staunched the competition, was riding a fixie.
