i got in a wreck on my 18 speed when a car ran a stop sign and i was lucky enough to bail. only picked up a fixie to save money until i could afford another 18 or 21 speed, but ive fallen in love. simple, elegant, little maintanence. its amazing.
Here's a secret that will blow your mind! Some people actually enjoy a bit of a challenge! It's pretty unnecessary to have 30 gears when you have your bike for recreational use! It's a challenge to ride. A 5 year old can handle 30 gears, but not all can handle fixed. And fixed is not a synonym for "no brakes" Many people have brakes, some just like the challenge of no brakes. The enjoyment you get when you are able to stop your bike without real brakes is ridiculous! Doesn't have to be practical
Im 12 years old and I LOVE cycling, mountain cycling. Its sometimes dangerous and your heart skips a beat but that's the fun. And today i saw a Single Speed in a shop me and my dad were in and i fell in love. Not the best but a Globe Roll 3! But no "its to expensive" and "you already have a bike"! So annoying, im in love with them!
That guy has a mag rim. Those cost around $200.00 here in America. The other guy had a Fuji frame. That's a super lightweight frame. I spend more time looking at the parts than I do the video.
Fixies need a single gear that isn't too hard to start out in but then again that single gear also needs to be able to propel you along at a nice speed. You're not hitting 50km/h on a daily-driven fixie. The pros will on a track with no problem but you'd never want that gearing for city riding.
fixies are simple but i feel that bikes need more intelligent brake systems and to retain the aesthetics of a fixie. brake and gearing systems look ugly but they are putting more plastic covers on this to make it look better in recent mountain bikes. Internal gear or cvt with belt drive is simple, fat handle bars, built in LED lights etc
You pedal backwards on a fixie to slow you down, by pedal I really mean apply weight backwards against the direction you're pedalling. You can also take your weight off the back of the bike and lock the pedals and you sorta skid, but that's really to slow rather than come to a complete stop. Some people have a front brake, but others don't. They're good fun if you live in a flat area, but as soon as there's a remotely steep/long hill I find it terrifying haha. Hope that helps (:
There's no way I'd ride a bike without at least one pair of brakes. Even when I was younger, I couldn't do it. I like to be able to stop at a moment's notice, not learn techniques on how to stop sans brakes.
Too bad there isn't something in between a fixie without brakes and a single speed with brakes? Wait a minute! There is! A coaster brake bike! Ta Da! O.K., here comes the negative comments.....
That's painfull, oh my gosh. Don't buy anything else! Fixies are a dream! But not in my city though... too many holes. oh yes! That's what i'm talking about.
It's just different, and you feel more "connected" to the fixed gear bike, that's true. Plus you have to develop certain skills on a fixed gear bike to avoid an accident. I am way faster with the freewheel though.
First of all fixies can have breaks but most of them don't have brakes but skid to stop or slow down. Then on a fixed gear you can beat a bike with gears it just depends on what kind of rider you are, they can go the same speed... if a fixed can ride 50 km/h a normal bike can do it to and the other way around. BTW i ride a fixie and i think it's practical enough.

How about the dude with like 7 mags hanging from his garage? I was freaking out hahaha
Dont forget the bianchi frame haha.
Lighter more reliability.
The parts shown in the video? The one you’re not looking at?

Nice vid...I need a HED 3 in white. Nice bikes and good vid! To all my fellow riders!
I guess you're not familiar with track bikes which is what 'fixies' are based off of. Lots of fixies don't have brakes.
whats a 3 hed?? Im new
that is a bet you're gonna win, my friend.
the poor fuji frame. At least put some proper pursuit bars on it
u guys still ride?
Get one. I have an 09 bowery and i will ride that bike until the day my legs stop working. Unbelievably light

Should I get a 52 or 55 cm frame, I'm 5'8
Yeah, that sure beats a bike with one gear and no breaks.
Cool let's ride c ya around.
You guys are local!! Whats good lets bike!
i ride all kinds of bikes from fixies roadbikes to even recumbants... the tri bike is my best fit though....

อยู่ที่ไหนคับพี่ อยากไปปั่นด้วย ผมอยู่ซานฟรานเหมือนกันคับ
Who said anything about no brakes?
Lube it Up!!
a fixie is a short term for fixed gear
Cool video guys, awesome fixies. You should have a fixie shop.

Fixie, you Betchya!
love how the guy at 1:54 casually has $2,000 worth of wheels hanging behind him.
I think I say a Giant Bowery in the line up. I've had my eye on that bike for a minute :)

I Have Never Seen A Hill That Goes 40 mph ?
i'd like to transform my road bike into a fixie only because they look smooth, simple and ellegant...

แจ่มมาก อะไหล่ ที่ต่างประเทศแพงกว่า ไทยเยอะไหมครับ
พี่สุดยอดมากครับ
Feel free to take the brakes off your regular bike. Let us know the route you ride, so we can watch you take an intersection.
If I had a fixie I would be using drops.. Get some serious sprinting going on...
i hear them say fixed gear instead of "fixie".
That makes 2 of us !
attention: 20 somethings.... every bike years ago was a single speed !
คนไทยเจ๋งที่สุดแล้วครับ ^^.
คนไทยเจ๋งอยู่แล้ว ไปที่ไหนก็เฟี๊ยว -3-

Hi Raymondo
YAY found Thai people in SF at last!!
Most likely when I purchase mine I'll be putting brakes on it.
You're totally right! I rather shave my legs, wear spandex and have an aerodynamic helmet and a bike with 30 gears! Makes me go so much faster!
But is a Fixed, not a single speed...
no...
Mantap... salam bikers..
singgah yo..
I literally didn't see a single HED the entire video
อยากไปปั่นบ้าง เมืองนอกอากาศน่าปั่น
เจ๋งวะพี่ !!!
Too bad there isn't something in between a fixie without brakes and a single speed with brakes? Wait a minute! There is! A coaster brake bike! Ta Da! O.K., here comes the negative comments.....
a single speed does have a coaster brake. thats why many call them costies
+William Hergenhan My single speed coaster has hand operated brakes, not coaster brakes.
How about a fixie with brakes!!!
That's painfull, oh my gosh. Don't buy anything else! Fixies are a dream! But not in my city though... too many holes. oh yes! That's what i'm talking about.
I ride a fixed gear but my city is 95% flat.
JCMELKOR then that's good for you
hope I had a proper bike

single speed/fixed gear. Different things.
asian man swagg! :3
this is regresion..... i don't see the point of rideing a fixie.... you get more what?
And the experience is way different
Think minimalism, its bike art, most freeing
It's just different, and you feel more "connected" to the fixed gear bike, that's true. Plus you have to develop certain skills on a fixed gear bike to avoid an accident. I am way faster with the freewheel though.
It's to be part of an idiotic counterculture.
