In this video we show you how we installed our potable generator to be able to have full convenience on the water. More importantly be sure to use one or more carbon monoxide alarms on or in your boat's cabin when using a generator on your boat. I believe you may be confusing carbon monoxide gas buoyancy issue with the 'propane vs natural gas' buoyance issue. Carbon monoxide gas is nearly buoyant with air at sea-level. It can readily 'float'/migrate up, remain even/buoyant, or can migrate down; and its migration is more dependent on ambient air currants and air temperature. I know you are not referring to propane/LP gas, but the buoyance issues you mentioned lead me to believe you could confusing the two. Propane gas is 'heavier' than air, so when propane (aka LP/liquified-petroleum, bottle-gas) escapes its container, it seeks a low area. Natural gas is 'lighter' than air, and floats up. It's good that you have a carbon monoxide detector. As you mentioned, having more than one, and at least one in each 'room' would be useful, as 'back-ups'.... When at anchor, and when it's windy, you will be a less risk. At a dock or when anchored when there is little wind, you will be at higher risk of CO issues...
Hi Andrew, yes wind conditions at anchor is definitely a factor that can complicate things. This is great information for everyone to know. Number one thing is to always have carbon monoxide detector for each space in your boat. Thanks for watching, and your comment. Peace!
How did you secure the retractable cleat to the swim platform? Some have nuts on the bolts, but how to secure them - not all the way through platform, I assume.
Hi, thanks so much for watching our video. I used a piece of starboard on the inside thru bolted with the hardware that comes with the cleat. Peace from the Keys!
So it’s been a year and wondering now with trial and error would you do anything differently? FYI you made my life easier with having the same boat as me. (They now make a through haul exhaust port for 45.00 on Amazon and debating on putting it in the garage and adding a cheap aux blower)
Hi, I'm happy with the system I have, the only thing I would do different is add a shore power outlet near the generator to eliminate the extension cord hanging on the side of the boat. But other than that is all good. Thanks for watching our video! Peace from the Keys!
What runs on your line #2 connection or are you able to run everything with just the line #1 hookup? I have a 2655 and I'm pretty sure I need #1 and #2 to be connected to run everything, but may be wrong.
Hi Paul, I've never needed to use shore power #2. Only #1, I have used all our appliances including A/C with no problem, just not all at the same time. Yes, it is recommended to use both #1 & #2 if you use all your appliances at the same time, and or there's not enough power to run all, or the cable gets too hot, then you may need to use both. But for the almost 19 years that I've own my Bayliner 285, I have only needed to use just Shore power #1. I'm not an expert on this, but its been my particular experience. Thanks for watching our video, and your comment. Peace!
Thanks Bro! Yes that's why I have done all the add on's and fixes...hopefully one day it's Bimini...for now overnights at boca chita or elliott key...Blessings, Peace!
Hi, thanks for watching our video! I've used it as seen and worked fine so far. You have to check the size and electrical load of your a/c system. Also a Soft-Start installed on your marine a/c will also help.
Hi Javier! Thanks for watching our video! I've left it on the swim platform when underway on short trips, and never had any problems, but mostly I will keep it in the cabin until I need it. What I did is sprayed corrosion block on the engine to protect it from rusting, and once in a while re-do it. Re-Spray and wipe down to keep protecting it. Thanks! Peace!
Hi Thanks for watching our video! Depending on how hot it is outside, it could be more or less. 6 to 8 hours on 1 full tank of gas. Hope this helps, thanks!
Hi Nick! Thanks for watching our video! Yes, you can run it when cruising, but the most important thing to keep in mind is not to run it when you have a trailing wind. That's wind from the stern the boat where it can blow carbon monoxide towards the helm and cabin. Always have and keep several carbon monoxide sensors. I have had the sensors go off even by just the boat engine running with a trailing wind. Hope this helps, and thanks for your comment. Keep safe. Peace from the keys!
Hi Alfredo! Great question! Here's one of the only way that we would recommend to not only to protect your generator, but also first and foremost protecting yourself of dangerous electric shock which can occur when getting your generator rained on when running. Here's the product information link we recommend to cover your generator: amzn.to/3G4hze6 to help prevent this from happening. Always do your own research to keep everyone safe from carbon monoxide poisoning and electrical shock when wet. Hope this helps answer your question. Thanks for watching our video! Peace!

Hi, thanks for watching our videos! So far no, I've used it many times and no alarm or indication. But if you get an alarm or a reverse polarity light is because on a boat the neutral and ground are separate, and a solution may be to create a jumper wire from the neutral to your ground on a separate plug adapter connected to your generators 2nd 110v plug. Theres a video on TH-cam by SV Ramble On, they show how to do this. But always do your research before doing any connections on your boat. Thanks for your comments and support! Peace!
Yes, we are having an issue with our shore power plug and replacement is needed...future video to come soon. Reverse polarity is bad as it can power the neutral buss bars and any metals connected to this buss bar will be hot, can shock you when touched. Further more it will also cause important metals like outdrive, engine to corrode faster. So if you have a Reverse polarity light on this means that you have the hot and neutral wires Reversed...and should be corrected immediately. Hope this helps, and be careful when touching and metals in your boat! Peace!
Hi Christian! Thanks for watching our video! Because of the exhaust, carbon monoxide, and cooling of the generator would not work in a enclosed compartment. We would have to get a marine generator, and install thru hull water intake for cooling, and thru hull exhaust system. This can be done, but now it gets expensive. So that's why we keep it simple. Thanks for your comment. Peace from the Keys.
