It's too bad you could not have preserved the patina and markings, but I understand the purpose of paint is to preserve and you guys live in a part of the country that rust likes. Excellent work saving and preserving it, and looking forward to the final product!
Behind it is a 1929 South Shore electric Interurban. I probably have ridden in it between 1954 and 1977. The line still runs from Chicago to South Bend, Indiana. They now use modern electric equipment.
Hey, thank you for the update! It’s also nice that they have some good weather this time of year to start working on it. Question, I see that they have the old style journal boxes, do they still have the journal bearings in them or are they roller bearings? Thanks again for your updates. I always look forward to seeing them.
It's great that they are restoring this car but what are they going to do with it when it's done? Is O.C.&N going to start a freight operation from Portsmouth to Newport?
Nice to have eager volunteers. However, they should all be using respirators, eye and ear protection etc. Undoubtedly there is lead paint on that boxcar. Regardless of the fact that labor is voluntary, I am sure that the organization must have some sort of insurance which could be jeopardized by non-OSHA compliance
Thanks for clarification. Regardless of whether OSHA regulates this or not, it is just safe practice to wear protective gear. Thousands of needless injuries occur yearly from lack thereof. Keep up the good(safe) work!
I'd have a old rickety rail car specifically for the spray painters. I'd announce it too. I don't know how else to prevent the graffiti peoples...only to except them. Or give them a few walls... Thanks
Excellent progress. I can't wait to see the finished restoration!
Thanks for watching!
I'm glad to see this boxcar is being restored.
Thanks for watching!

I was exspecting to see sand blasters and spray guns ,But that was a lot of work, Good job.
Thanks for watching! Sandblasters and spray guns were not in the budget.

That’s actually a PRR P70

Thanks for watching! They are roller bearings on this car.
Can't wait to see the restore done on this old car
Thanks for watching!
A lot of prep work, too bad they couldn't rent a sand blaster. Can't wait to see the final result.
Thanks for watching!
@@bailey-critter Perhaps if I lived closer I wouldn’t mind sharing the cost of the sand blasting.
@@bailey-critter Do you have anything to do with this project?
Is the flatcar on site to? Or still needs transported
That is just up the track a bit
@SouthCoastRailVideos awsome, looking forward to some photo freight videos 😉

No.....it will be used in tourist service
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Tourist service? Do you get to be a hobo for a day and ride in a boxcar.
Wish there was something like this going on close to me. I'd love to help on a project like this.
Thanks for watching!

They were used shortly after the clip from early on in the video
Masks were used for the rest of the process including sanding, and OSHA doesn’t regulate volunteer operations.

Which railroad are you going to paint it for? Who was the original owner?
NYC (both questions)
Wow how old is it
Built in 1952
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Wow awesome that's pretty old hopefully it'll look nice when it's finished
Will they paint the old plaques and numbers back?
The car will be painted NYC
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Is...that supposed to be a yes?
@@theextremeanimator4721 yes....

We don’t have any railcars to spare so they’ll have to go somewhere else
Graffiti just makes it more authentic. When was the last time you saw a freight train that wasn't covered in graffiti.
Historically, like when this boxcar was built, you’d never see graffiti. So it is being painted.
@@bobcosgrove3235 I believe covering anyone's property with graffiti that you don't own without the owner's permission is reprehensible.
@@SouthCoastRailVideos I don't like the graffiti at all...but there must be a win win solution somehow. Thanks
I hope this wonderful boxcar is relettered and repainted in New York Central livery!!
It will be, stay tuned
Why is it being put into NYC instead of BCLR?
It was built as NYC
Couldn’t find at least a dust mask to use?
Dust masks were used for most of the day
lol...
Terrible restoration workmanship ! 😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😵 Boston wise guy 🇱🇷🇮🇪🦉
