Yep. He spent the season with Celebrini, so this won't be the first time he's played with elite players. But the things he's going to do with a prime Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf and Dach are going to be fun to watch. Those players are not only skilled, but smart and experienced as well. He'll benefit immensely from those qualities, and those guys are going to reap their own share of the rewards.
Hughes is a smoother and better skater. Hutson is more explosive. It will be interesting to see these two and Makar compete for best dman for years to come.
Hutson when he makes moves is 6 feet from where he was not 7 or 8 like maker but still good enough. Will be a figging nightmare for slow forwards. The thing is being in the NHL it will be even better as playing with Suzuki Demidov Caufield Dach and the like will only make his game easier. The downside on the PP I feel he limits us instead of 4 forwards to just 3 as too small. We have to have backup to protect the breakout by checking teams. Hate saying but we will have to move Suzuki back to point Dach on center Demi on LW and Slaf on RW. So second PP becomes weaker. Now if we get Laine and he works out changes everything. We put Dach Laine and Demi on 1st PP with Suzy and Hutson. Then Caufield with Newhook and Slaf and Matheson and Guhle.
Ya'll are gonna have a Boston boy in the Lane Hutson video comment sections for a bit. It's weird for me too. Had too much fun watching Lane this year to keep hating Montreal ;) lets go Bruins and Habs!
Watching the way Hutson anticipates and moves into open space in the offensive zone makes it much more clear why he was able to score a lot of goals as a defenseman. I love players who can read plays and anticipate so well. It makes them seem a lot faster than they really are because they move first, and people always end up asking "why does the puck seem to follow him around?" or "why is he left so wide open all the time?"
Also noticed that clean little sequence at 3:00 while watching the game. For his first game ever in the league, that was a quite a nice play - from starting on his own red line to being the first player at the other red while creating an opportunity and also being back in time to defend. IMO he has the potential to be a norris winner in the future when he hits his prime.
He absolutely did not disapoint for his first two games! Can't wait to see him next year. Montreal is gonna be really fun to watch! Loved the video as always M.St-Louis!
I've been watching videos of Hutson for the past few months. I am blown away by his offensive skills. Literally blown away. His hockey IQ is in the top 2 (yes, not top 5, but top 2!) players I have seen in a couple of decades. Like all geniuses of the game, he has developed his own personal style and technique. His size will put him in difficult situations from time to time, but like all little geniuses, he has devised a catalog of moves and tricks that give him an edge over bigger players, which is to say almost all other players. My main concern is whether his teammates will be smart enough to adapt to and understand his moves and playmaking when he is on the ice!
I think so, alot the time i notice some players creates great options but habs lack the means to get the puck to that player, hopefully hutson will help
I like that you compare him to Quinn Hugues...but his stick handling seems at time to be a little better and his vision and hockey IQ seems high for his age ! I too believe his skating while being good and near NHL level could be a lot better. He will improve, that is certain and after that, it will influence his entire defensive options. I really like what i see of him right now and also his potential ! Defense will be crazy long term in Montréal with him, Mailloux, Ghule and Reinbacher !!
yeah quinn hughes already had elite skating coming into the league. Hutson will have to improve that but it seems like our development team is good with this with Roy being a prime example
The NHL or somes Canadian/American medias didn't show any videos about his highlights...... When I see how he was during his two first NHL games, I think that he can easily been a candidate for the Calder trophy in 24-25.

I continued playing ball hockey after that. I just got really interested in understanding the game later on (probably because I couldn't figure out deception or anything like that as a player at first).

It’s gonna be fun to see what he can do next season, i think he’ll be wha the Habs need for their PP, I can’t see him Laval, gonna be second pairing with Savard I think, which will be great for his development
He skates well, obviously a top playmaking defenseman. Montreal has a history, going back to the 1970s of developing top notch USA defensemen like Bill Nyrop and Taiwan-born and NH-University Player Rod Langway (2 Norris Trophies). He could become something like a de-tuned J.C. Tremblay for Montreal!
@2:38 The Habs are suddenly short handed as Armia is going to the bench for a new stick. Armia is leaving the Detroit goal scorer alone at the blue line.
It's a factor in the play (and I should have mentionned it) but it doesn't change the read. Not a big mistake and not really on him. It's basically "he could have adapted and helped" situation.

He did lose the race with Raymond, and certainly didn't look as smooth doing so, but to his credit he barely lost a foot race with a guy who has 82nd percentile top speed.
8:50 : I still dont know why Nick Suzuki went behind the net in that 3 vs 3 situation, plus Anderson did not even try to cut the pass, the Wings player was absolutely not showing appearance to shoot, the pass was obvious...Hutson did so much, sad he looks like to be the one who did not skate good enough on the play when Suzuki would have a chance to be there to help with a better anticipation.

He looks like a loose Canon...a liability on defence. You can't run around that much in the NHL without getting burned. Remember PK Subban when he first came in? They tried desperately to make him responsible on defence first.
His defense is underrated, he is responsible, this was his first 2 games in playing in a system he doesn't know, you gonna get all bitter cause he didn't follow the assignment you made up in your head he had? Have you watched him for 2 seasons? Probably not.
Uh....did you even pay attention to all of David's analysis comments on the defensive aspect? PK, those were the old school coach days, "play da right way'...Lane already has above replacement value in the D zone, nailed 16/18 outlet passes in his first game, that's elite outlet play from a Defenseman. Liability? sheesh...
PK was an incredibly strong skater (elite) and had a great shot. He used his physical side well when needed but his creativity has nothing compared to what Hutson has show he can provide. Very different players.

For first goal defensman from canadians just was so slowminded to clean the situation
He looks like PK Subban.. Someone should tell him not to get too popular or they'll trade him away. 😂

2 games whit no pressure and he's the futur makar...thats MTL😂 if he cant do nothing for 3 games they gonna trade him 😂 terrible
He looks like a loose Canon...a liability on defence. You can't run around that much in the NHL without getting burned. Remember PK Subban when he first came in? They tried desperately to make him responsible on defence first.
Dude he’s fine
His defense is underrated, he is responsible, this was his first 2 games in playing in a system he doesn't know, you gonna get all bitter cause he didn't follow the assignment you made up in your head he had? Have you watched him for 2 seasons? Probably not.
It is pretty cool you spelled loose correctly, that's a rare find on the internet ;)
Very different players.

lane needs 7 lbs in each leg to be more solid and faster
