    The way she is playing the piano, is making this video a perfect memoriam - just to meditate on everything beautiful that she gave us. So emotional.

    OMG! I didn't realize that she was already "Fighting her battle" during this performance until she stood up. Her voice was the same, she and played amazingly!!! This is what you call a: "Consummate Performer!!!" No one can ever dispute that she is the: "Queen of Soul." #RIPARETHAFRANKLIN #RIPALF #RIPQUEENOFSOUL U definitely fought a good fight.

    It hurts to even hear her speaking voice. Have been crying for two weeks. My heart is broken. God knows how ill Miss Franklin was here. How brave she was. Not one of the greatest voices of all time, THE GREATEST. God Bless her, God Bless her family. Thank you God for Aretha Franklin. How awesome and blessed I feel to have been alive during her entire career; I started listening to her as a 10 year old kid. RIP, Queen of Soul.

    I had tickets to see Aretha several years ago here in Houston. She canceled the concert unfortunately. Not to be denied. I found out that she was performing at Radio City Music Hall. I bought tickets and flew to New York and saw a Saturday evening show. What a blessing to have been able to witness her talent up close and personal. I will forever be thankful for that opportunity. RIP Aretha.

    In addition to being an extraordinary vocalist, Aretha Franklin is also a wonderful pianist. Her influence on other musicians is staggering. For instance, there are certain mannerisms that many associate with Luther, including his signature ascending bubble burst, that are actually "borrowed" from Aretha. Chaka, Natalie, Jennifer Holiday, Whitney and a host of other singers also soaked up the incredible artistry of Miss Franklin. There are some singers who are "doing Aretha" and don't even realize it. That's how seminal she is. If anyone wants to say that she is the greatest singer in the history of recordings, I will not argue.

    • @kzkz1263

      Where can i hear this ascending bubble burst

    • @TruthSerum101
      @TruthSerum101 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the first time I heard Aretha do it was in 1975 near the very end of As Long As You Are There. Luther's take on it was more staccato and extravagant.

    • @Sttephy30
      @Sttephy30 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      She's also the one who made secular music & gospel music acceptable to be blended together in mainstream music. Bringing gospel styled singing to popular music as well. Aretha paved the way for all the riff, running, belting, melisma vocalizing in pop-ular music.

    Hard to believe this performance was done a year ago to this day and she seemed so vibrant and so strong. There was no indication of her silent suffering when she took the stage. It was perfection and elegance. I know everyone in that building felt her charm and spirit. She knew Muhammad Ali!! This lady was a true American classic. I am going to miss hearing her voice on the radio and on television. You don't get over this type of loss overnight. She made her name and didn't even have to change her name. I think she is the ONLY singer who the record companies never made change their birth names. A phenomenal woman.

      Every body knew Muhammad Ali. Even Patti Labelle has a photo with him in the 60s with the Bluebelles, DIana Ross too, in those days he took a photo with every one. RE, Re will be missed. I cant believe that she did my cup runnith over with love. She knew that she was leaving this earth and she wanted to make every one happy before she left and she did.. I'm in tears... what a legacy!!!!!

    • @jcextranow
      @jcextranow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ron Williams, I guess you REALLY had to point out the fact that everybody knew Muhammad Ali especially the women of the 60s when this tribute and post is in honor of Aretha ARETHA. And if thats the only thin you took from the post then shame on you. This wasnt about her knowing him, This was about all of the amazing things she did in her lifetime but some people are small minded and look at only ONE thing in a post and blow it up

    • @jcextranow
      @jcextranow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ron Williams I really don't care if those other performers knew him. This post was about Aretha. ARETHA. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. her and not mention those other women when trying to do a post specifically dedicated to her memory.

The album cover told the story. Aretha was a good voice coach for me. Aretha' "YOU" album is a vocal masterpiece and every singer should study the vocal content.

      I have been mourning.... I am Whitney's gen... but remember Aretha around "Freeway of Love" Duet with G.Michael.
      Her voice just resonates so much...... and really hard to escape of my soul being touched..... every time I hear har!
      True legend..... Sad but I really believe she has lived to the fullest and the best example of what a person can do to her/his life. Starting from Dr.King's time.... with har father... 20years plus++ earlier of my time but still, I love har voice and music. The more I've grown more mature, I do appreciate har more... (I wished Whitney could have had the chance to live longer and extend her legacy...the way Aretha had....)

    One of you said in the comments that Ree gave us her all. And when I see this, I think..."Absolutely!" I was there at the Mann Center that night with friends and my family members. Aretha had left tickets for us. As a matter of fact, as a small group waited backstage to go into Aretha's dressing room after the concert, there were so many of us, including Louise Williams Bishop, who had known Aretha since her days at Columbia Records. Louise says that she was actually friends with Aretha's brother Cecil first and it was he, who introduced her to his singing sister. I'll never forget my mother grabbing Aretha's autobiography off the shelf at my home. As we were walking out the door, she said to me, "I think I'll ask Aretha to sign this book for me." Aretha did sign the book and Mom took it back to home to Delaware. (Which reminds me, now my mother has her copy and the one she swiped from me and I have zilch!) #LOL We've always had lovely memories with the "Queen." I once told her after a concert in Atlantic City that it was Louise, who shared amazing stories of her lifelong friendship with Aretha, but it was my mother, who first introduced me to this soulful singer named Aretha Franklin. And whenever she'd release a new album, you didn't wait to hear a few cuts on the radio first. Instead, with Ree, you went out to the record store and you just bought her new album as if it were the law! #LOL. Once, I was interviewing Aretha on the telephone. I told her that if she wanted, I could call Louise on the 3 way and patch her into the call. "I have Louise's number," Aretha snapped! "I don't need you to call Louise for me!" We all laughed and Louise glows whenever I tell her that story. Aretha really was an amazing woman and of course, an amazing singer too! I miss her so...

      She was in Chicago a month later and gave a great show, considering she was 75 yo. And she always acknowledged celebs in the audience. Amazing she was in great voice, hard to believe she was battling cancer. Just an aside, when she was in Chicago she wore a cute pink 2 piece suit. That dress she was in was not flattering, but that's IMO. She's with her siblings, the last one of her family. She was a survivor.

      The rumors that she was in declining health started circulating in early 2017. Originally I hadn't even planned to go to Philly (I went to Columbia SC for the eclipse and then up to NYC for Broadway, museums and baseball), but when I heard about this show, I realized I shouldn't miss this chance. And, thanks to Amtrak and some good fortune, I didn't. Bless Aretha for being able to battle on with a smile on her face and a song in her heart.

    simply amazing!!! Aretha was forever the queen of soul, and left a legacy of fans like me, who has been blessed, inspired and uplifted by her music, and her heavenly, anointed beautiful, God given voice! She did what God put her here to do!! Now she has gone home, to be with the Lord, and receive her crown of life!!!!

    I'm so glad I was in attendance at Aretha's concert! It was my first time, and she was so awesome! Wow! My husband bought the tickets and they were great seats. My daughter went with me, and we are still to this day talking about what a time we had! I am so very grateful for that...the Queen was totally fabulous! Music is not the same without Aretha Franklin! She was music royalty and had the Voice!

    So relaxed and confident about her life. Just enjoying herself reflecting on His goodness. I hear it though many won’t. My father had the gift of playing the piano ...started playing at the age of 5 years old. He sang as well and was a master piano tuner. Aretha was a well versed, gracious and gifted woman. Gifted and talent have different meanings. Gifted is a direct line from God. Talent is learned/practiced behavior. ijs... Live on Queen...

    Aretha Franklin and Al Green are the gender specific roles of each other. There’s only 2 words to describe the great “Retha” (as my dad knew her) Al Green and that’s “pure soul!” They epitomizes it their music embodies it. Much respect and many blessings to the family, great friends, co-workers and others whom lives she touched.
